There is more to this story than those with a bandwagon mentality are willing to hear.  This woman was not dragged behind a dumpster kicking and screaming, nor was she dragged there already passed out.  What clearly started as a consensual drunk hook up--a scene that is repeated thousands of times a day on college campuses--became a passed out female and a black out drunk male caught by two Swedish guys on bicycles.  Yes, Turner kept going after the woman passed out.  That's pretty awful behavior.  But anyone who thinks drunk guys aren't taking advantage of drunk girls has their head in the sand.  Furthermore, anyone who thinks that the women play no active role in this sickening dance and are always victims no matter how willingly they enter into drunk hookups is also delusional.  In fact, what better way for both parties to get laid relatively guilt free than to do so blind drunk?  You can always wake up the next day and blame the alcohol.  Both men and women do this.  It is folly to throw all blame and responsiblity with the men.

As to Turner's race and the leniency of the sentence, if the judge was lenient because Turner is white and privileged, then we also have to allow that the prosecutor pursued the case because Turner is white and privileged.  A case like this is career making for an ambitious prosecutor.  These scenes repeat themselves thousands of times a day every day on college campuses with our sons and our daughters. And they aren't all rapists and rape victims.  Turner was too drunk to stop finger banging the drunk chick he picked up after she passed out.  That's basically what happened.  Calling this rape and Turner a rapist is quite a stretch and dilutes the meaning of rape.  The woman had no recollection of an assault until the people at the hospital started probing her.  Most of her trauma, according to her own letter, is associated with the prosecution of this case, and not with the actual event.  If those two Swedish guys had not stopped, she would have woken up some hours later, picked up her panties, and wondered who she'd hooked up with this time.  This isn't blaming the victim.  I'm not sure how much of a victim she really is, and how big a role the prosecution played in making her one.
