  1. The sorcerer-priests of Kedesh gain their magical power through worship and sacrifice to ancient demon-gods who slumber deep within the earth. They most frequently use his power to conjure demons and bind them into metal, allowing for the creation of terrible arcane machinery. The exact purpose of this devotion is, however, a subject for much debate, and the occasional outburst of violence, between the various clerical sects.
  2. The most extreme mainstream faction is the Chorus of the Awakening Cry (Wakers), who believe that the purpose of the priests of Kedesh is to awaken their sleeping gods, so that they may rule at their right hand in a new and glorious age of darkness.
  3. The largest faction, the Propiatory Orthodoxy (Conservatives), seek to draw whatever power they can from these sleeping gods, while doing all that is possible to keep them from awakening. The Conservatives believe that, should their gods rise, they would enslave or devour all mortal life, including their loyal servants.
  4. More a methodology than and ideology, the Ash-speakers (Necromancers). Spread evenly between both major factions, the Necromancers seek to understand their gods through communion with the dead, who dwell with them in the underworld. While their magic is beginning to show signs of promise, most of the clergy tend to disregard it in favor of the demon-binding with which they are far more familiar.
  5. Two smaller sects also exists. The Society of Free Technicians (Materialists) seek to free their craft of demonic influence. They don't object to demonic magic on moral grounds, rather they merely question it's safety and reliability. While Materialists focus mostly focus on the purely technological aspects of their craft, they prefer to bind elemental spirits, particularly those of earth and fire, into their machinery, rather than the infernal beings favored by other sects.
  6. Lastly, there are the Prophets of the Howling Void (Screamers), considered to be dangerous extremists even by the Wakers. They claim to revere formless entities native to the darkness outside the ordered cosmos. The Screamers claim that the cthonic gods worshipped by the mainstream priesthood are merely the weak and degraded kin to the void-beings that they revere. Most attempts to harness the power of these beings end in disaster, but the few successes are even more horrifying, as Screamers are as likely to bind this power into their own bodies as they are to bind it into metal. Screamers undergoe this binding are quickly warped into unspeakable abominations, no longer recognizable as dwarves. Screamers are almost universally regarded as heretics, and are hunted without mercy.
