- "Martins, have you calibrated the machines?"
- >"Y-Yes sir!"
- "Alright, fire them up and wait for my signal."
- >Martins walks over to the computer and begins to type things in.
- >The lights dim and the two pod shaped machines give off a bright orange light that illuminates the room.
- >You take the plate with the sandwich on it and place it in the first pod.
- >After standing and making sure to latch the door shut twice, you nod to Martins to start the experiment.
- >He presses the enter key and looks up to the two pods.
- >You back away in case anything goes sour.
- >Both machines start producing a very loud roar as they spring to life.
- >A spark of electricity shoots off of the first one and hits the second one, connecting them both with a thin blue line.
- "Yes..."
- >The light from inside the first pod shuts off and then it stops making noise.
- >The second one's light doesn't go off.
- >You look back at Martins.
- "Martins, check the first pod."
- >When you go back to him, he has a picture of the inside of the first pod.
- >Nothing is there.
- >A pang of excitement surges through you.
- >You've done it.
- >Mankind has successfully transported an item to another location without actually moving it.
- >But...
- >You look to the other screen which shows the second pod.
- >It's not there.
- >You type in the command to shut off the machines and they power down.
- "Damn it!"
- >Martins watches as you go down to the pods and open their doors.
- >The sandwich is gone from the first pod, but it's not in the second pod.
- "Martins, help me look around the lab. We could have just make a slight goof in pinpointing where we want it to go."
- >He nods and starts searching the tables in the back.
- >You circle both pods and look atop the file cabinets that line the walls.
- "Find anything?"
- >"Nothing sir, you?"
- "Nope..."
- >A few more minutes of searching go by until you plop down on a chair and sigh heavily.
- "God fucking damn it! We've done it, but we don't know where it went!"
- >Martins stands in front of the computer, staring at the screen.
- >"Sir, do you want to try again?"
- >After taking a deep breath, you stand up from the chair.
- "Sure. This time, I'LL do the calibrating."
- >He looks hurt at this comment, but still walks past you to secure the machines.
- >You type in the command to dim the lights once more.
- >Martins gives a thumbs up from the first pod.
- >On his signal, you type in the command to start the teleportation process again.
- >The inside of the pod shows on the monitor.
- >Seems he's decided to use a stapler.
- >Not like it matters.
- >As the electricity sparks a connection between the two pods once again, you see a flash on the first pod screen.
- >Looking closer, you see that the second latch wasn't properly latched.
- >Martins stands there looking at both machines.
- >The roar of the machines grows once again.
- >You grab onto the railing and shout to Martins.
- "We have to get out of here!"
- >"W-What? Why?"
- "The latch on the first pod, it's not-"
- >The air in the room becomes incredibly heavy for a few seconds, cutting you off.
- >You look at Martins.
- >He looks back at you.
- >Random objects in the room start to float.
- >You feel yourself falling forward.
- >When you look down you see your hand is phasing through the railing.
- >"W-WHAT'S HAPPENING?!"
- >Looking back up at the terrified Martins, you see the connection of electricity from the two pods fork out.
- >It strikes him and you yell out.
- "MAR-"
- >The light from the first pod goes out and the fresh outdoor air strikes your face.
- "-TINS!"
- >You inhale deeply and look around.
- >It seems that you're in some sort of forest.
- >Printers, papers, and other things that were once in the lab are now spread around you.
- >Along with the sandwich that lays on a bush.
- >When you try to move forward, you feel as if something is brushing against every piece of skin your have on your body.
- >Looking down, you see that half of your being is inside of a tree.
- >You move your arm closer to your face and touch it with your other hand, feeling the texture of bark.
- >In shock, your eyes roll back into your head and you faint.
