  1. A lawyer before the war. Switched to law halfway through college, started out premed. Wanted to help people and saw that applying her medical study to law would help more people than she could as one doctor in one hospital. Started out her career trying to make policies regarding exposing people and the environment to hazardous waste, since pre-war america didn't seem to care much for proper waste disposal.
  2.
  3. She didn't get much done since the corporate administrators don't care and are profit driven, and city government wasn't much help since greentech and halucigen and all of them brought so much money into Boston. This also made her unpopular and get a few veiled threats.
  4.
  5. But after one minor victory regarding experiment patient consent forms that went to the appellate court of the commonwealth, she decided to stick with it.
  6.
  7. After the bombs fell and her world was destroyed and her husband was murdered and her son was kidnapped, she clung to her belief of trying to help people to give her something to focus on, and has set out to try to make a difference. It's easier to not kill yourself if you have a goal that you focus on.
  8.
  9. She's not short on causes in the wasteland. Corporate waste disposal was replaced by slavery, experiment abuses were replaced by raiders, court proceedings were replaced by gun fights. But through it all she focused on her goal and she got through it.
  10.
  11. She loved Nate, and after he was killed, her concern was stopping what happened to her from happening to other people. So stopping the Institute became her concern.
  12.
  13. Her goal she made for herself was all that was keeping her from killing herself. Each time she rescued Billy from Bullet or Kent from Shinjin or whatever, she was happy for a minute. But it was a minute, and the reality of her own situation came back to her mind. Nate was dead, Sean was gone.
  14.
  15. This shared situation is why she connected so much with Cait. When Cait described trying to find a reason to not kill herself, she instantly related. Eventually, they relied on each other, and they each gave each other a reason. This shared state eventually lead to friendship, and later further into love. The sort of love between two people who have been through so much together and nothing else matters than the other person.
  16.
  17. Now, she continues with her goal of trying to help people, but it's changed. Now, it's not some sole focus of her life that keeps her from just dying, now it's something she enjoys and wants to do. She found a way to be happy through Cait, and she has a new perspective on life.
