Equestrian Fantasy (AiE One-Shot)

>The sun rises peacefully over the landscape of the Crystal Empire as you reach the peak of the cliff, at the border of Equestria.
>Rivers flow, forests are bountiful, and p0ny-made paths snake along the ground.
>It's deceptively beautiful.
>Your axe hangs heavy on your back, and each step of this journey makes it seem even heavier. But the journey was only beginning, and you were no stranger to adventures.
>Soon, a hooded, p0ny-sized figure appears next to you from behind, finally catching up.
>The figure too gazes out onto the landscape, before pulling back her hood. Twilight Sparkle.
>"It's so pretty..." she comments.  "I would never have guessed anything was wrong..." You nod with your arms crossed. "I suppose King Sombra's dark magic hasn't reached every part of the empire yet."
"Perhaps not. But do not let that deceive you."
>Twilight looks up to you as you continue to gaze out over the cliff.
"Monsters roam the forests, thieves and bandits patrol the roads, and who knows what kind of dark, terrible things lie at Sombra's keep."
>Twilight sighs. "And we still don't know the whereabouts of Shining Armor and Cadence..."
"Indeed... things do look grim..."
>Twilight sighs and glances off to the side.
>You turn and look to her. A smile crosses your face.
"But... we needn't worry, Twilight Sparkle. Things will be alright."
>The purple hooded unicorn looks back up to you. Tears dampen her eyes, and you're reminded of how hard on herself she's been. "How can you know that, Anon...?"
"Because, we will fight together."
>Her mouth gapes a little bit as a tiny gasp escapes her. It's as if she wasn't expecting this response.
"Whatever waits for us over that cliff... whatever King Sombra has in store for us... I know we can handle it."
>You draw your axe.
"As long as the two of us stand, no evil will befall the kingdom of Equestria, or the Crystal Empire."
>She pauses for a moment, but soon, a small smile graces her face. "Anon..."
"No matter where we stand, I will scream a battle cry loud enough that the beast will hear it... and he shall be reminded of it when we storm his castle."
>You look to Twilight and smile.
"Together."
>A tear rolls down her smiling face, and with a joyful expression, she gives a single nod.
>It makes you smile.
"Now, let us go. We have a journey to make, friends to see, and a land to save."
