  1. >Princess Twilight Sparkle slowly walked over to the balcony of her castle
  2. >Looking out over the Everfree, Ponyville, and the Sweet Apple Acres, she realized that this too had become another redundant habit that she would do
  3. >Putting her front hooves up on the railing, she sighed to herself as she watched another sunset
  4. >TS: "This sure is something that I've seen way too many times..."
  5. >She looks down in sadness
  6. >Agony has been her closest friend for the last few centuries
  7. >She looks back up at the horizon, watching as the last glow of orange finally disappeared behind the land
  8. >TS: "I wonder if the sun may ever set for me"
  9. >She sighs again as a Royal Guard walks up to her from the castle
  10. >RG: "Uh, Princess Twilight, someone's here to see you."
  11. >Without acknowledging the Guard, she continues to peer into the distance with a weak
  12. >TS: "...Send them in..."
  13. >?: "Princess Twilight?"
  14. >That voice, a voice that Twilight had grown accustomed to. It was the voice of her student.
  15. >TS: "Nebulana! My faithful student! How have your studies been progressing?"
  16. >She was a small filly, she had a blue mane with a coat slightly lighter than that
  17. >But she had a look of concern on her face, she was worried about something
  18. >TS: "Are you alright? Is there anything I can help you with?"
  19. >N: "A-are you okay Twilight?"
  20.
  21. >Twilight took a step back, confused at the unusual question
  22. >Unlike her old friend Applejack, who had come to pass many centuries back, she had the ability to tell a lie if needed
  23. >TS: "Of course, silly. Why do you ask?"
  24. >The younger mare looked at the ground while scratching at the marble tiles with her hooves
  25. >She finally works up the courage to say
  26. >N: "Because I don't remember the last time I've seen you smile."
  27. >TS: "Oh, um... we-
  28. >N: "Its just like you don't want to deal with me anymore"
  29. >Twilight started to form tears in her eyes
  30. >She had never realized that her own apathetic take on life was now affecting the one pony that she could now even call a friend
  31. >The student started to raise her voice at her master
  32. >N: "And I know you're lying to me! You aren't okay! You haven't been okay in years!"
  33. >Twilight is about to break down
  34. >N: "What is wrong with you?!"
  35. >That did it
  36. >Twin rivers formed underneath the princess's eyes as she sobbed away as if she were a little child playing with her brother
  37. >Nebulana stood their, waiting for an answer
  38. >Twilight had been so exhausted of hiding her sadness toward life from the ponies that knew her. She couldn't appear to be weak, she was a champ
  39. >But, with time comes change. Twilight knows this first hand. She is the very essence of change
  40. >She had to say it
  41. >She had to tell what has been on her mind for the last few centuries
  42. >She had to free her soul from this burden
  43. >After her sobs calmed down, she looked back up Nebulana, whom adopted a face of curiosity at her movement
  44. >Twilight faintly smiled at her student, before placing a hoof on her cheek
  45. >TS: "Oh Nebulana, you've truly grown into quite the mare."
  46. >She looked back down, tears still in her eyes
  47. >TS: "I can tell that there's no fooling you."
  48. >She sighs before continuing
  49. >TS: "If you want to know the truth, I'll tell you..."
  50. >Nebulana just stared at her in wonderment
  51. >TS: "Well the truth is..."
  52.
  53. >TS: "...that I'm just tired."
  54. >Nebulana grew frustrated
  55. >N: "Tired? All this because you were a little sleepy?"
  56. >TS: "Of course not, my little pony. Just listen to what I am about to reveal to you, alright?"
  57. >N: "Okay... I'm sorry"
  58. >Realizing her sudden outbursts may have been having a negative effect on her mentor, she told herself not to interrupt anymore
  59. >TS: "Don't worry about it" and she shot back an appreciative smile
  60. >TS: "I don't mean tired as in I want to take a nap. I mean it as... well..."
  61. >Twilight struggled on how to explain that she wanted to end her life, as she had already completed her aspirations long before
  62. >TS: "It's just that being an Alicorn really took its toll on me."
  63. >N: "B-but how? You get to live forever! That's totally awesome!"
  64. >Twilight chuckled to herself at the thought
  65. >TS: "I used to think that too..."
  66. >She pauses, planning out exactly what to say
  67. >TS: "Have I ever told you the story of the mane 6?
  68. >N: "Yah! You and your best friends went on adventures and destroyed enemies and stuff!" She says as she hops to her hooves in an excited manner
  69. >TS: "Yah... we really were something. I wouldn't be anything without their friendship."
  70. >Twilight sighs, reluctantly stating her point
  71. >TS: "So watching them leave me for the afterlife, one by one..."
  72. >Twilight looked burdened by her own depression
  73. >TS: "I may never see them again. And its not because they've died off..."
  74. >She whispers out
  75. >TS: "Its because I didn't..."
  76. >The two ponies are both at a loss for words
  77. >N: "I, um, I'm so sorry Princess. I didn't know"
  78. >TS: "Only if that was the only problem that I had to deal with"
  79.
  80. >Nebulana was confused
  81. >N: "Huh? But, what could be worse than that?"
  82. >Twilight pointed her hoof towards Ponyville
  83. >Twilight had flashbacks to her friends.
  84.
  85. >She remembered the ecstatic Pinkie Pie, who's tasty pastries could be smelled from a mile away
  86. >She remembered Rainbow Dash, the daredevil pony who would never give up
  87. >She remembered Applejack, the pony who would never tell a lie, the one with the incredible work ethic
  88. >She remembered Fluttershy, who preached that kindness always was the solution
  89. >She remembered Rarity, who knew that reward would come through meticulous effort and generosity
  90. >She especially remembered Spike, who was her number one assistant
  91.
  92. >Twilight comes back to reality
  93. >TS: "Before I became a princess, Ponyville used to be the stomping grounds of me, my friends, and the whole town which seemed to function as one nice friendly unit."
  94. >Twilight sighs
  95. >TS: "I wouldn't go five feet before someone I knew showed up. Sometimes we could talk, sometimes we would play, sometimes we would relax."
  96. >Twilight looks back down, sits on her haunches
  97. >TS: "Nopony that I've ever truly known is alive anymore. They're all gone..."
  98. >Nebulana didn't understand, she was a princess, she could just make friends right?
  99. >N: "Can't you just go out to Ponyville again, and make new friends?"
  100. >TS: "I wish it was that easy..."
  101. >Twilight thinks about the burden of being a princess
  102. >TS: "Every time I walk anywhere, I am treated like I am some kind of goddess. To the point where I can't just be considered an equal friend! I am always the master pony. Ponies do unnecessary favors for me, they bow to me. Oh and that's something I hate, when everypony bows to me! I am just a pony, don't make me out to be the great regal leader! Let's just put it like this. I haven't met a pony that has gotten to know me as a friend, besides you, in centuries."
  103. >Twilight looks out to the darkening sky
  104. >TS: "Even my old princesses have left me. Cadence, Luna, and even Celestia."
  105.
  106. >Nebulana formed an idea in her mind
  107. >N: "But they were all Alicorns and they've moved on. That means eventually it, well, you know, it should happen to you to!"
  108. >Twilight's expression of agony does not change
  109. >N: "It should work, right?"
  110. >TS: "It doesn't work like that my faithful student... they were all born princesses, they weren't given eternal lives, just longer ones"
  111. >N: "But you're an alicorn too!"
  112. >TS: "But I was transformed into one. My life may never end. I may have been burdened with immortality."
  113. >N: "Why would Celestia do that to you?"
  114. >TS: "Oh, well she couldn't have known, it was totally beyond her knowledge, beyond anypony's knowledge, she helped shape me into the pony that I am today. Or at least the pony I was..."
  115. >TS: "I don't have anything against her. I loved her."
  116. >Twilight thought about that phrase.
  117. >The pony I was
  118. >The pony I WAS
  119. >TS: "The pony I was..."
  120. >Nebulana looked at Twilight with clear focus and respect
  121. >TS: "You know, I used to be quite the pony. I would read my books, learn about friendship..."
  122. >TS: "But I was adventurous too. I fought off many villains with my girls, enemies like Nightmare Moon, Sombra..."
  123. >TS: "Not many knew that I was actually a little more athletic than I appeared. I showed everypony when I placed 5th in that Running of the Leaves Race" she chuckles
  124. >TS: "But that was the past. None of that remains."
  125. >N: "What do you mean?"
  126. >TS: "Well, I've lost everything. I learned all there is to learn, there is no more enemies to fight, friendship is a concept long gone to me..."
  127. >TS: "I can't even bring myself to read anymore..."
  128. >Nebulana, for the first time in her life, took pity upon the Princess.
  129. >N: "I'm, I just, I'm so sorry for you Princess."
  130. >TS: "Yah, I know..."
  131. >Twilight looks into the darkness, creeping up on the ponies
  132.
  133. >TS: "Yah, I'm just tired. I should have died long ago. I have lived for far longer than good. I can't go on like this forever. I need to die."
  134. >Nebulana started crying at the statement her mentor made
  135. >Twilight wouldn't stop, she couldn't stop. Not now.
  136. >TS: "Life for me is too difficult now. Even with all the influence that I have over all the ponies in Equestria, my life in a sense has dribbled down into nothingness. I don't have anypony to be friends with, nor do I have anything to live for. My life is complete, yet I must linger on."
  137. >Twilight closes her eyes
  138.
  139. >TS: "And, I just want to complete my life so that I may go to a place where things are right. Being a Princess, its just not me. I long so desperately for the days in which i could just throw sleepovers with my friends. I miss the days where my friends and I were equals with each other. I miss the days where I could just lie on the park bench with a good book, learning about some character's adventure. But I just truly miss the days where I was just another mare. Just another mare with her friends. My friends..."
  140.
  141. >Twilight reveals her true feelings
  142. >She finally did it
  143. >Her student now knows
  144. >Nebulana has one more question to ask
  145. >Twilight settles down as she fires away
  146. >N: "Princess?"
  147. >TS: "Yes?"
  148.
  149. >N: "W-will I turn into an alicorn?"
  150.
  151. >Twilight looks back to her student, smiling at her, she puts a hoof to pet her mane
  152. >TS: "Of course not. I would never do something like that to you.
  153. >N: "Thank you. Princess Twilight"
  154.
  155. >Nebulana eventually goes home, yet Twilight remains on the balcony all by herself in the darkness
  156. >Peering into the vast night that wrapped around her, she could only think one thing
  157. >TS: "May I ever see my friends, may things go back to the way they were?"
