  1. The room was devoid of any windows, its ceiling only seven feet high. The glow of the monitor illuminated the room with a faint glow. There was a faint musk that permeated the small room.
  2.
  3. A burly individual was hunched over his desk, his face merely inches away from the monitor. His hands rested upon a dirty keyboard, a myriad of crumbs and other unrecognizable sediments decorated the device. Next to the keyboard, there laid wads of crumpled tissues and beside it, a nearly empty tissue box.
  4.
  5. Hhnn… The burly man let out a subdued breath.
  6.
  7. Beads of sweat rolled down the hunched over individual’s neck. He wore a bright red shirt, a shade redder than any girl’s face, if they had seen what was on his monitor. The shirt was covered by a floral pattern. It had sleeves that only reached halfway to the man’s elbow.
  8.
  9. The man’s eye darted to the corner of the monitor, it read: 12:22 AM. The man let out a sigh, and swiveled his chair around. He stared across the room, there in the corner laid a navy colored duffle bag. On top of bag laid a single plane ticket.
  10.
  11. The man pulled up his cargo shorts and slowly walked towards the duffle bag. He picked up the plane ticket. A sigh escaped the man as he brought the ticket closer to his face to read. To: Japan, the man stared at the words. The man’s face creased, forming numerous wrinkles, sweat now covered his body. The chubby figure let out a second sigh and dropped the ticket to the ground, he made his way slowly back to his desk.
  12.
  13. Reassuming his stance of a keyboard warrior, he became hunched over, his elbows were tucked in, and his face just a hair away from the monitor. He took the mouse and navigated it towards his task bar, he clicked on the item that read: Ten Travel Tips for Beginners. He stared blankly at the page; the black words seemed to float on top of the sites light grey backdrop. He scrolled to the very bottom of the article, right before the comments. You have been warned, it read. A chill ran down the man’s spine. The man pulled at his shirt, now a sticky mess, having absorbed the man’s sweat.
  14.
  15. In one swift graceful motion, which should have been impossible for a man of his stature, the man removed his sweat stained shirt. As if it the universe was making a retort to the improbable event that had just occurred, a bzzzt noise could be heard and the monitor flickered on and off.
  16.
  17. “Goddamnit, as if I wasn’t freaking out enough already.” Muttered the shirtless man. The monitor flashed again, illuminating the man’s impressive girth. “Nothings going to happen tomorrow. The plane won’t crash, that’s an absurd thought. “ The man had reassured himself. A steady tide of sweat continued to pour from the man’s body.
  18.
  19. An image flashed onto the computer screen. A depiction of a female cartoon character appeared. The character had walnut colored hair and bourbon colored eyes. Two locks of hair extended from the front, extending down just above her bosom. The back of hair was longer; it appeared to reach the small of her back. She wore a plaid-like green bowtie, with large red stripes that run through each section of the bowtie. She wore a matching green and red plaid skirt.
  20.
  21. The man’s pupil expanded. He once again let out a sigh. He turned off the computer and left the room. The room was pitch black.
  22.
  23. Bzzzt. The monitor illuminated the room. The man slowly turned his body around. Once again the picture of the female cartoon character appeared; an instance later the monitor shut off, leaving the room devoid of all light once again. The man stood in the darkness, dumbfounded for almost minute. He slowly inched towards the door. His clammy hands made the doorknob feel even colder than usual; he turned it and opened the door. The man let out his last sigh of the night and slowly began his ascend up the stairs.
  24.
  25. Bzzzt. The monitor once again sprung to life. No longer was it an image of the girl with the walnut colored hair. Instead, Internet Explorer was open. A red banner appeared on the site, the letters BBC were engraved in three small blocks and below it the word NEWS. The first headline read: Accidents plague planes to Japan, countless dead, US to investigate.
  26.
  27. Countless pop-ups began appearing: “Declaration of war, Japan shoots down all foreign planes”, “Global tragedy: No survivors found on planes to Japan”, “Scientist investigate abnormalities in Japanese airspace”, “Authorities unable to locate debris of downed planes”. The screen blacked out.
  28.
  29. Upstairs, the man, still shirtless, rolled around in his bed. Sheets and pillows were scattered around the bed, some already on the floor.
  30.
  31.
  32. An uncomfortably loud tune was belted from the cellphone that lay beside the sleeping man’s bed. Sunlight was seeping into the room; the man awoke slowly, surrounded by the mess that he had created.
  33.
  34. He sat upright on his bed and noticed that something fell onto his lap. He squinted at the piece of paper, his eyes still adjusting to the light; it was his plane ticket to Japan.
  35.
  36. “How the hell did this get here?” There was a slight quiver in his voice. He quickly got dressed and surveyed his room. He turned over sheets and pillows frantically. After a few minutes, he let out a sigh. He grabbed his phone and without bothering to even get dressed, he went downstairs.
  37. Upon opening the door his eyes darted back and forth around the room.
  38.
  39. “Hmm, nothing seems stolen.” He mused to himself. He walked over to his duffle bag and unzipped it. He reached his right hand into the bag and explored the contents of the bag. “Everything seems to be in the bag as well…” he trailed off. Another sigh. The man glanced down at his phone, 10:30 AM it read.
  40.
  41. “Shit! I’m going to miss my flight!”
