  1. Had it already been an hour? It doesn’t feel possible, but time has a cruel habit of slipping away when we’re happy, and you’ve never known a happiness quite like this. Like her.
  2.
  3. Like Leni Loud.
  4.
  5. The girl who, barely over a month ago, you had been mortally terrified of ruining your friendship with as you approached her in the science wing. And the girl who had nearly deafened both you an unfortunate TA with the elated, joyous squeal that annihilated your fears seconds later.
  6.
  7. Now here you are, huddled together on her couch in defiance of the hot, slightly sticky night air of late June, bathed in the glow of the long-idle Netflix menu. Her siblings had, indeed, retired over an hour ago; hustled upstairs by Lori, with a knowing smile and what you think was a whisper to Luan about a camera.
  8.
  9. A sudden peck on the cheek from Leni snaps you out of your contemplative reverie.
  10.
  11. “Welcome back”, she teases as the surprise wears off.
  12.
  13. A return kiss on the forehead begs her forgiveness, “Just lost in thought again.”
  14.
  15. Her head lifts from your shoulder, the humidity binding more than a bit of her flaxen hair to your shirt. “Mmmm. What about?”
  16.
  17. “How impossibly lucky I am that you said yes to me.”
  18.
  19. Her giggle fills the uncharacteristically still house, one of the most beautiful sounds in all of nature. “Not as lucky as I am to have you.”
  20.
  21. “You think so?”
  22.
  23. Her fingers glide up your neck to the base of your chin; slowly she guides you until all you can see is her smiling face, and all you can feel is the warmth of her love. Leni gazes up at you, her sapphire eyes dancing as they explore your features, so close to her now in the gray light, drinking you in.
  24.
  25. She absolutely does.
  26.
  27. Without warning, her arms snake over your shoulders and pull you into a deep kiss while her legs move to straddle your thighs. She isn't quite on your lap, but sweet mercy, she's close. Almost reflexively, your hands find their way to her hips, eliciting a happy little moan from her which you're only too happy to muffle. Eventually, the need for oxygen overcomes your steadily more feral desire to keep at each other. Even so, Leni still whimpers in disappointment as your lips part.
  28.
  29. "So, why are you the fortunate one here?"
  30.
  31. That catches her a little off guard and she turns away for a moment, silhouetting herself against the TV as she thinks. A nervous sigh tells you that maybe the ice was thinner here than either of you thought.
  32.
  33. "If you don't want too, it's okay. I was just-"
  34.
  35. "No, I do. I want to, I just, like, I don't know how..."
  36.
  37. Another kiss to the forehead, and you can feel the tension drain from her, steadied by your reassurance. After a minute, she breathes deeply as she cups your chin in her hands, fixing her gaze on yours.
  38.
  39. "Because you make me feel like I matter."
  40.
  41. -----
  42.
  43.
  44.
  45. “G’morning!”
  46.
  47. In the doorway, radiant in the glow of the brilliant summer dawn, stands Leni; clad not in her usual seafoam nightgown, but a simple long, black t-shirt. One that you’re reasonably certain you’ve never seen her wearing before.
  48.
  49. She waves to everyone as she rubs the last motes of sleep from her eyes, striding expectantly to you and blissfully unaware of the chorus of disbelieving stares from her present siblings. It might be almost down to her mid-thigh, but as she wraps her arms around your neck and pulls you into a loving morning greeting, it’s alarmingly clear she’s not wearing much besides that shirt.
  50.
  51. Your shirt.
  52.
  53. As her eldest sister achieves a comical shade of scarlet, you find yourself praying that Leni at least had the sense to put on some underpants. Checking seems like a bad idea, though the unmistakable beep of a camera doesn’t bode well for you.
  54.
  55. “Why is she-“
  56.
  57. “When you’re older, Linc.”
  58.
  59. You can feel her reluctance as she releases you, lingering to savor the sensation of you in her arms for a few more precious moments. Favoring you with a parting nuzzle, she bounces to the fridge, a turquoise flash between her legs dispelling not quite as much of your lingering embarrassment as you’d hoped.
  60.
  61. "Nice job, lover boy." Luna elbows you in the ribs with a sly grin
  62.
  63. Across town, Bobby flicks open a message from Lori, choking on his own morning brew at what he beholds.
  64.
  65. [HOW COME WE NEVER KISS LIKE THIS???]
