  1. The problem is that, even in times of war, it is hard to broker a ceasefire if there's still shooting going on. And when you try to engage both sides in dialog, it is easy to take an unpopular position which then makes it look like you're taking sides. Once that happens, it becomes counter-productive (as I said on Reddit earlier today, http://goo.gl/SCTeui) because the firing continues and you lose one side of the discourse when they stop listening to you.

  3. Which is why, through this whole #GamerGate thing, I have been neutral because I have been here before and seen something like this play out; except that I was the target. Nobody gets to "win" this.

  5. And don't forget that this whole thing was originally about ethics in game industry journalism. Look where we are now.

  7. It's just wrong. It's mean spirited. And it hurts us all. There is no "win" here.

  9. And you can't fight "corruption" by going to war over the price of beans.
