  3. [2014-12-10 13:38:27] <Kkat> 3Golden_Dream pauses for a moment. For some reason, what Copycat said really got to her. "... If they can get past th' Enclavers, they have a clear shot at Equestria. Tell 'em that Equestria's buildin' up, and it ain't never seen heads 'r tails of any Caesar."

  11. [2014-12-10 13:39:40] <Kkat> 3CopyCat looks between Mare-Do-Well and Golden_Dream. "Good idea. I suggest we send out the zebras with their goblet first, then continue into the tunnel. When they have want they want I'm sure they won't hang around. Especially if the 'Dark Empress' is still about."

  21. [2014-12-10 13:42:51] <Kkat> 3Over the radio: "If the gems are intact, I know someone who can get it working. If she's still alive."
  22. [2014-12-10 13:44:12] * Golden_Dream hunches over the radio. "What's her name?"
  23. [2014-12-10 13:44:50] <Kkat> 3Golden_Dream can almost hear the mare smiling. "Kifaa. You have her. We have her tools."
  24. [2014-12-10 13:45:27] * Bookwright looks over. "Shall I let her go then?"
  25. [2014-12-10 13:47:53] * CopyCat blinks, looking at Bookwright. "That... might be a good idea. At least let her hooves touch the ground."
  26. [2014-12-10 13:49:45] * Bookwright has already set Kifaa down. He unbinds her with a flicker of magic.
  27. [2014-12-10 13:50:36] * Golden_Dream furrows her brow. "We're goin' with them on their way back. She gets up there, comes back down with us. Then we seal off th' Dark Empress fer' good."
  28. [2014-12-10 13:55:58] * Noble_Heart frowns. "Or at least for another two centuries, in any case."
  29. [2014-12-10 13:57:46] * Golden_Dream slumps her shoulders. Why do these sorts of problems have to come up multiple times? Why can't anything be one and done?
  30. [2014-12-10 13:59:57] * CopyCat nods. "It is a mystery, Golden_Dream. I suppose some stories like to stick around."
  31. [2014-12-10 14:01:56] <Kkat> 3Kifaa looks unsteady. She tests her freedom a little. Takes several deep, steadying breaths. Then strides up to Bookwright and slaps a hoof across his face. Followed by a string of angry zebraese that Parlay translates as having something to do with dangling her over the abyss and something do to with Bookwright's breeding.

  33. [2014-12-10 14:02:32] * Shatara concurs.
  34. [2014-12-10 14:03:36] * Golden_Dream grinds her teeth together, eyes looking down. "Yeah, I get that. But, you know, sometimes I feel like th' things that happened way before just has too much say in th' now of things. Like th' folks back then can't let go of control of th' things of now."
  35. [2014-12-10 14:04:49] * Golden_Dream 's ears shoot up at alert and peek back at Kifaa and Bookie. Don't laugh, Goldy. /Don't laugh/. "I, uh. I think that's Zebra for 'I don't like bein' floated around just as much as Goldy don't'."
  36. [2014-12-10 14:05:36] * CopyCat giggles.
  37. [2014-12-10 14:05:48] * Bookwright stands stock still. "I guessed as much."
  38. [2014-12-10 14:07:23] * Golden_Dream has some smarmy urge to dress up her usual tone. "I guess it's nice t' know that you can take forceful criticism."
  39. [2014-12-10 14:11:10] * Golden_Dream puts back on her grumpy seriousface. "I guess we gotta go out there..." Weirdly, the gates of Tartarus felt safer than going out right now. She had this sense of incredible foreboding overtake her, as if she sort of knew that this wouldn't go down without a fight. "... Get ready."
  40. [2014-12-10 14:13:48] * CopyCat nods in agreement with Goldy. "Very nice to know. Still, the zebra will be getting what they want out of this deal. Frankly I don't think those three would have faired too well trying to get the goblet themselves. Not unless they could walk freely on the webs and avoid those spiders."
  41. [2014-12-10 14:14:35] * Golden_Dream started her way back to the mouth of the cave. "... Y'comin'?"
  42. [2014-12-10 14:15:00] * Noble_Heart looks down to Golden Dream. "Well the present only exists because of the past. It should be no surprise that the present is a slave to those actions that lead to it." She moves to follow Golden Dream.
  43. [2014-12-10 14:20:09] * Golden_Dream rolls her eyes. "I get that. But I ain't never seen a city that wasn't moved into and spruced up from somethin' that weren't built there before. I ain't seen roads that weren't put up hundreds a' years ago. There's a difference from bein' respectful t' someone and bein' a slave t' them."
  44. [2014-12-10 14:20:21] * CopyCat takes Golden_Dream's foreboding to heart and closes her eyes. Her horn glows and magic briefly washes over her. She had linked her friends to herself, letting her mind share anything that their subconcious happens to notice. Combined like this it practically gave her precognition... where action was concerned.
  45. [2014-12-10 14:20:41] * CopyCat nods and follows Golden_Dream and Noble_Heart. "I am ready."
  46. [2014-12-10 14:21:51] * Bookwright shrugs. "
  47. [2014-12-10 14:21:57] * Bookwright "I am ready."
  48. [2014-12-10 14:22:23] * Noble_Heart frowns. "It is difficult to make new settlements. New Appleloosa was constructed from salvaged train parts. And the NCR's capital was built of a train yard." She contemplates that a little more. "But it takes much time and effort to set up the mechanisms to work steel and stone. It is far easier to use what already exists than to make new."
  49. [2014-12-10 14:23:11] * Mare-Do-Well 3waves ghostly hooves in the air. "Born ready."
  50. [2014-12-10 14:23:46] * Bookwright snickers. "What're you gonna do, Rainbow? Intangible them to death?"
  51. [2014-12-10 14:24:23] * Mare-Do-Well 3levels a stare at Bookwright.
  52. [2014-12-10 14:24:31] * Golden_Dream whaps Bookie on the back of the head.
  53. [2014-12-10 14:24:41] * Bookwright takes his whuppin' like a good boy.
  54. [2014-12-10 14:25:01] * Noble_Heart looks towards Bookwright. "We have seen her crush giant, angry, pincer robots before."
  55. [2014-12-10 14:29:24] * Golden_Dream closes her eyes. If nothing else, she's probably restoring brownie points with Kifaa by whoopin' on Bookie. "Bookie, y' wouldn't call a ghoul a zombie and y' shouldn't be goin' around disrespectin' her when she's been doin' nothin' but use what she got t' help us out. 'Sides, she can prolly possess y' and make you slap yerself."
  56. [2014-12-10 14:30:09] * Bookwright lights up. "Ooh, would she? That would be so cool!"
  57. [2014-12-10 14:30:59] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The group walk back up through the Temple of the Quetzalcóatl Empress, passing by the many side passages left unexplored in their journey down to the Kutengwa Abyss. They reach that first room where the unnatural darkness first manifested. They can see the ruddy light of evening seeping warm and bloody through the entrance at the end of the hall.
  58. [2014-12-10 14:32:27] * Golden_Dream starts to get the clasp off. She didn't want to be blinded when they did get out into the light. Not when a moment's notice could mean death or... Otherwise.
  59. [2014-12-10 14:34:43] * Mare-Do-Well 3frowns at the discussion. Possessing friends isn't cool. Unless invited, at least. And she considered 'Bookworm' a friend. Plus, she doesn't have the force of will to possess anyone right now. Not since the fight with the pirate ghost. She's... well, the unicorn was right... kinda useless.
  60. [2014-12-10 14:35:05] * Get_Lost follows the others. is quite excited about making friends with pirates
  61. [2014-12-10 14:36:58] * Noble_Heart carefully removes the too-small-for-her cloak. "We wonder if those gliders have enough power to get the zebras back to their ship."
  62. [2014-12-10 14:37:46] * Bookwright "I'm sure they had some provision for getting back to the ship. They were sent down here to retrieve the goblet, after all. No good coming down here for something if they can't bring it back."
  63. [2014-12-10 14:43:39] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Outside, the entrance is ringed by zebra air pirates. While there are a few eye patches and peg legs, and side-strapped cutlasses abound, most of the zebras are wielding zebra assault rifles and similar war-age firepower. One stands at a tripod-mounted gatling. Their armor is largely reinforced leathers echoing the red and black colours of their airship.
  64. [2014-12-10 14:44:24] * Noble_Heart looks around at the associated zebras with a frown. "It would seem that we are expected."
  65. [2014-12-10 14:45:06] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Behind them, several powered gliders lay in the clearing. But most of them came down on ropes from the pirate airship that floats above. It does indeed have many cannons.
  66. [2014-12-10 14:45:47] * Get_Lost smiles and waves "hi there!"
  67. [2014-12-10 14:47:07] * CopyCat joins Get_Lost in a friendly wave.
  68. [2014-12-10 14:47:29] * Bookwright "I'm glad there are cannons out here. Otherwise things would be really awkward right about now."
  69. [2014-12-10 14:47:51] * Golden_Dream crept back and tried to use the cave as cover. You know, just in case.

  71. [2014-12-10 14:52:43] <Get_Lost> trots towards a pirate with a peg leg AND an eye patch "wow, you look so cool! is this the point where we get pactured? or we are going to duel and swing sabres and stuff?"
  72. [2014-12-10 14:53:43] * CopyCat gently floats their unconcious zebra forwards and sets him down beside them.
  73. [2014-12-10 15:00:35] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Kifaa and Jugeote trot past the group to join the zebra pirates, Kifaa at a considerably more anxious gait. Jugeote tries to look professional, and perhaps a bit aloof. Once she reaches the others, there is a moment of tension... and you can see her relief when it breaks. She quickly starts conversion with the other pirates, one mare in particular.
  74. [2014-12-10 15:01:54] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Two zebras move quickly to get the unconscious one. Then, after a few words from Jugeote, secure him in irons.
  75. [2014-12-10 15:02:21] * Shatara blinks at this curious development
  76. [2014-12-10 15:03:30] * Bookwright "He tried to kill us, remember?"
  77. [2014-12-10 15:04:42] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The pirate with the peg leg and eye patch looks at Get_Lost and grins a grin of bad teeth (one of which is made of gold). He says something in the zebra creole.
  78. [2014-12-10 15:05:48] * Noble_Heart nods her head. "Likely they were as offput by the sudden escalation as we were."
  79. [2014-12-10 15:07:10] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Jugeote and one of the zebra have begun to argue. But while a little heated, it doesn't seem to be a dangerous argument.
  80. [2014-12-10 15:09:11] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Jugeote waves a hoof back up at the temple. The caravan ponies and griffin cannot help but notice that the shadowy visage of the Empress has faded so much that it is nearly imperceptible, but she is still there.
  81. [2014-12-10 15:09:19] * Get_Lost opens the zebra's mouth wide "no, no, no! you caan't simply keep teeth like this!" sighs "we must do something about this..." looks in the doctor's bag and tries to flush the zebra's teeth
  82. [2014-12-10 15:09:54] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The pirate backs away from Get_Lost and draws a sword. A few of the nearby pirates laugh.
  83. [2014-12-10 15:11:49] * Noble_Heart tilts her head and watches Get Lost quietly for a few moments. That was... Weird. But then, so was a lot of the things she did.
  84. [2014-12-10 15:12:16] * Get_Lost "oh, c'mon! you don't want to end up 35 and not being able to chew anything but pudding!" gets a toothbrush amd some toothpaste from the doctor bsg "come here..."
  85. [2014-12-10 15:14:08] * Shatara can't help but chuckle a little.
  86. [2014-12-10 15:14:58] * Bookwright is enjoying the spectacle.
  87. [2014-12-10 15:15:17] * CopyCat hides her smirk behind a wing.
  88. [2014-12-10 15:17:36] * Golden_Dream 's ears go out to the side as she peeks out from behind whatever served as cover. Of course Get would be more concerned with fixing their teeth than her safety.
  89. [2014-12-10 15:18:58] * CopyCat speaks, her mouth still hidden by her wing like some upper-class mare with a fan. "Do you think one of them is the mare we spoke to over the radio?"
  90. [2014-12-10 15:20:26] * Get_Lost since the pirate isn't moving, she gets slowly closer "say aaaaaah"
  91. [2014-12-10 15:27:14] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The pirate seems very disinclined to let Get_Lost look in his mouth. He keeps his sword between himself an her. The nearest pirates are definitely laughing at the situation, which doesn't improve his mood.
  92. [2014-12-10 15:28:48] * Golden_Dream raises her lower lip. Right. "Who here speaks Equestrian?" She calls out from behind what she could get.
  93. [2014-12-10 15:29:11] * Get_Lost sighs in frustration "oh, c'mon! i can't believe this! i want to havea chat with the medic of this ship now! things need to change before this becomes the granny toothless steamboat!"
  94. [2014-12-10 15:29:45] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Jugeote's argument ends and the mare walks back (with more swagger now that she is backed by a small army) towards the ponies. She addresses Shatara in oddly-accented griffin. "Give us the Goblet, and you all go free. Our Captain is good to her word."
  95. [2014-12-10 15:30:28] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Several of the pirates look at each other, shrugging and mumbling.
  96. [2014-12-10 15:31:50] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The pirate mare Jugeote was arguing with barks something. Jugeote pauses, then says, "And if you have more to offer, the Captain is willing to trade for Kifaa's expertise with your broken golem."
  97. [2014-12-10 15:32:50] * Golden_Dream looks at Bookwright. He was the one with the cup.
  98. [2014-12-10 15:33:51] * Shatara blinks a bit, and glances at Get_Lost. "...would dentistry count?"
  99. [2014-12-10 15:34:12] * Get_Lost looks at shatara "tell them i'm not going anywhere until i had a chat with their medic."
  100. [2014-12-10 15:35:52] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Jugeote looks back at the pirates behind her. She shouts something, clearly a question. After a pause, and some murmurs, one of them shouts something back, also a question. Jugeote gives a pained look.
  101. [2014-12-10 15:38:46] * Shatara makes awkward cuplike gestures at Bookwright.
  102. [2014-12-10 15:39:20] * Bookwright snaps out of his daze. "Oh, right. Yesh." He fishes the Griffin's Goblet out of his bags and holds it forth.
  103. [2014-12-10 15:45:47] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Jugeote trots up, takes the Griffin's Goblet in her teeth, and trots back to the pirate mare who is clearly in charge. Once she has the Goblet, she motions towards the zebras on one side of the encirclement. They move back towards the gliders, leaving an opening. Symbolic more than actually necessary, but it is clear that the pirates are offering passage.
  104. [2014-12-10 15:47:20] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Several pirates rush to put the Griffin's Goblet in a treasure chest, one of them shouting up to the airship. A cargo crane swings over the side and a hook begins to lower. Pirates above look down over the railing of the ship.
  105. [2014-12-10 15:49:02] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The mare-in-charge calls out to the ponies, saying something in zebra creole. Jugeote translates into griffin, speaking to Shatara, "As a jesture of good will, the Captain is willing to fly you back to The Silos if you wish."
  106. [2014-12-10 15:50:28] * Noble_Heart looks back and forth between the others. "It seems like we have a ride out of the valley. But it may be best if we remain until our work here is done." She contemplates a few moments and reaches into her bag, pulling forth a cutlass. It was a pirate-y weapon, the same they found in the temple where the pirates were apparently running alcohol before the war ended. "Perhaps
  107. [2014-12-10 15:50:29] * Noble_Heart we could bargain this for her skills?"
  108. [2014-12-10 15:51:20] * Golden_Dream perks up. "Wait! Bookie, th' barrel o' booze!"
  109. [2014-12-10 15:52:14] * CopyCat looks at the cutlass Noble_Heart had produced, her eyes sparkling like the sword's inlaid gemstones. "Ohh, pretty. That's a good idea Noble_Heart!"
  110. [2014-12-10 15:52:25] * Bookwright "Hmm? What about it?"
  111. [2014-12-10 15:52:34] * Get_Lost is not going anywhere until everyzebra will get dental care
  112. [2014-12-10 15:53:16] * Golden_Dream looks at Bookie. "If you can get that, well. I'm used t' bargaining with booze all th' time."
  113. [2014-12-10 15:54:52] * Bookwright "Oh, that barrel of tincture? I wanted to keep it..."
  114. [2014-12-10 15:56:14] * Shatara relays to the stripeypones that Get_Lost really, really, really wants to fix their teeth.
  115. [2014-12-10 15:56:36] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The sword gets some reaction from the pirates when Noble_Heart reveals it. They are clearly familiar with enchanted craftsmanship. While nobody understand what they are saying, it seems clear that you have something to bargain with.
  116. [2014-12-10 15:57:21] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Jugeote sighs heavily and trots to the mare, engaging in a conversation that clearly involves a level of frustration for her.
  117. [2014-12-10 15:58:07] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Other pirates listen in while pretending not to eavesdrop. Looks are exchanged.
  118. [2014-12-10 15:58:12] * Get_Lost "i can also fix their ship if they need fixing"
  119. [2014-12-10 16:00:00] * Get_Lost is already thinking about some sort of afterburner or maybe a day of judgement main gun...
  120. [2014-12-10 16:00:32] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Jugeote trots back to Shatara. "You have a deal. The Captain is willing to trade Kifaa's services for that fancy sword and... ugh... she will let your friend perform dentistry on the crew so long as she doesn't do anything untoward."
  121. [2014-12-10 16:01:21] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Jugeote adds, "Volunteers only, though. The Captain promises to volunteer one member of the crew if no zebra chooses to."
  122. [2014-12-10 16:03:49] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Shatara can tell that something is annoying Jugeote, but he can't tell what. Still, it doesn't appear to be directed at him. Or at Get_Lost.
  123. [2014-12-10 16:04:42] * Golden_Dream is surprised that word of Equestria reached up past the border. And that they aren't immediately trying to capture "princesses".
  124. [2014-12-10 16:04:53] * Get_Lost is happy with what little good she can do for these ponies. "okay, i need a room and a chair and maybe a table and some fresh water"
  125. [2014-12-10 16:09:44] * CopyCat smiles at her friends and at the zebras. "I think we're getting along quite well."
  126. [2014-12-10 16:09:45] * Shatara makes it clear to get lost that she is not to go around installing AI-powered chainswordteeth, before relaying her requests back to Jugote. He hesitates a bit, before asking her if everything is allright.
  127. [2014-12-10 16:10:17] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The mare-in-charge shouts something up to the ship. A moment later, rope ladders are thrown over the railing.
  128. [2014-12-10 16:11:36] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Jugeote confides in Shatara, "When I translated your offer, one of my mates asked 'what's dentistry?'."
  129. [2014-12-10 16:12:59] * Get_Lost lsmiles satisfied, the smile becomes a smirk and at last it becomes a crazy laugh "you won't regret this. solaris dental care is the right choice. now, let's put some braces on"
  130. [2014-12-10 16:13:10] * Golden_Dream lurches forward slowly. Her shotgun slung loosely to her side. She looked tense. Like she was waiting for one of them to make a sudden movement towards her. She was familiar with these kinds of pony. Hell, she was sort of raised around them. The fun part was going to be to show them that it was a bad idea to get /too/ greedy around her while she can't actually speak their language.
  131. [2014-12-10 16:14:13] * Bookwright is sketching the pirate's airship in his book. Sketches are good.
  132. [2014-12-10 16:14:36] * Shatara chuckles a little and nods with a smile. "I guess they'll find out..." He then remembers something he was supposed to mention to the others. "Oh! They offered to fly us to The Silos..."
  133. [2014-12-10 16:21:12] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The pirates begin to climb the rope ladders up to the ship as the cargo crane lifts the treasure chest holding the Griffin's Goblet over the deck. A few zebra remain on the ground, weapons held at casual readiness just in case the ponies and their griffin companion should try something. Others secure the powered gliders.
  134. [2014-12-10 16:22:14] * Noble_Heart contemplates that. "It might be best if we remain until our work here is done. But a ride out of the valley would not be without its merits once they are finished."
  135. [2014-12-10 16:24:20] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Jugeote looks to Shatara, glancing towards the sword. "So, trade now?"
  136. [2014-12-10 16:25:17] * Shatara eeeps awkwardly. He is really bad at this whole 'team face' thing. "Uh, they're ready to do the trade..."
  137. [2014-12-10 16:26:01] * Golden_Dream looks at Shatara. "Tell 'em we'll give th' captain th' sword personal."
