  1. >Once it was finally finished, the Cross Continental Transmit system was the Generals's favorite toy.
  2. >It was also the most boring assignment in the kingdom for a trooper.
  3. >Tedious inspection drills, endless hours of guarding impregnable outer walls.
  4. >Things got so bad that when a Grimm break erupted in the courtyard, we were almost happy to have something to shoot at again.
  5. >If only we had known what an embarrassing snipestorm we were about to wade into, we probably would have bombed the whole block into dust.
  6. >It started out as a normal work day.
  7. >Walk the halls, stand at attention, and stay out of the techies' way when they had to fix something.
  8. >But when people started showing up for work or call their cousin's girlfriend's brother's cat sitter in Vale, something seemed off.
  9. >We could feel the hostility, the pain in the air before we knew what hit us.
  10. >Suddenly alarms were going off everywhere.
  11. >One of the outer walls had fallen, and Grimm were pouring in.
  12. >We grabbed out guns and rushed outside, only to be met with the sight of a blood-soaked road and one of the largest Grimm we had ever seen.
  13. >Training kicked in, and we opened fire on anything that wasn't human.
  14. >Grimm started to drop left and right, but we weren't doing anything to the one that broke the wall.
  15. >All we did was piss it off.
  16. >The giant ape-like thing lumbered forward, swiping the ground with it's massive limbs and tossing men aside like they were toys.
  17. >We were hopelessly overpowered, and Grimm were slipping past us, making the body count rise by the second.
  18. >Pushed back, we soon found ourselves with a foot in the door and out of ammo.
  19. >We knew it'd bust it's way inside and cause the whole damn thing to collapse if we let it get closer, but without nothing left in our guns, we didn't think anything could stop it.
  20. >Until a Pelican flew in and opened it's door.
  21. >Four of Ironwood's prize Hunters jumped from the transport right onto the thing's back.
  22. >They pulled out weapons and began slashing and shooting as they flipped and ran all over the massive Grimm.
  23. >Whatever they were doing, it was working.
  24. >The beast turned it's back on the CCT and started going after those gnats.
  25. >We scrambled inside and unlocked the emergency armory.
  26. >We restocked our guns and grabbed the biggest shit we could find.
  27. >Rocket launchers, grenades, anything that would help them take that big guy out.
  28. >There was also the issue of the Grimm still flooding into the building.
  29. >Our numbers were thinning, but we had a job to do.
  30. >Half our unit split off to hunt the Grimm and get the rest of the people out.
  31. >The rest of us went out to help the Hunters, and try and keep the Grimm on the other side of the wall.
  32. >We went back outside, and the giant Grimm was still alive, but it was hurting.
  33. >In just a few minutes, the Hunters had pounded it back towards the wall and nearly finished it off.
  34. >We let them worry about killing it while we unloaded our guns on the next wave of Grimm trying to get to the people in the tower.
  35. >Rockets flew into large packs of Grimm, tearing them apart.
  36. >Grenades exploded and sent chunks flying.
  37. >Bullets flew through the air and tore into whatever those bastards were made of.
  38. >We thought we were heroes.
  39. >But we hardly saved anyone.
  40. >Most of the security force was wiped out, and only a handful of citizens made it out alive.
  41. >We didn't even kill the Goliath that broke the wall.
  42. >After the embarrassment of the wall break, Lt. Vermilion removed us from our comfortable billet, and began dragging the 106th across the kingdoms, in a dangerous hunt for the missing Color Nazi commanders.
  43. >Ironically, our punishment eventually proved to be our salvation.
  44. >The poor souls who took our place in the security booth were completely wiped out when the first CCT was destroyed.
