  1. To the Honorable [JOHN Q SMITH]:
  2.
  3. Hello, I am writing today to voice my concerns about the proposed bill [INSERT NAME/# OF BILL HERE].
  4. I find that my generation while not perfect, does its very best to look for objectivity over emotion. As my generation grows and becomes more politically active, we look at laws and those statistics involving them. We've found that gun homicides have dropped substantially in the past 20 years (based on FBI reports), whether or not restrictive firearms laws were in place. We've also found that "assault weapons" are an incredibly small percentage (reported as less than 1%) of all gun homicides, and reinstating any such ban would have negligible if no effect on gun violence whatsoever.
  5.
  6. Going further, there are too many examples of gun-control supporting politicians making false claims and citing misinformation while talking about firearms.
  7.
  8. When I hear a politician like Californian Senator Kevin De Leon say that a "Ghost Gun" can fire 30 clips in 1/2 a second, it shows that this very outspoken pro gun-control politician knows very little about firearms. I have to wonder where he gets his information from as no such conventional firearm exists.
  9.
  10. When NY Representative Carolyn McCarthy says she is banning a "barrel shroud" and then not know what specifically a barrel shroud is, I have to wonder why she is banning it.
  11.
  12. When a very well know and outspoken California pro gun-control Senator Leeland Yee is arrested and indicted for having ties to organized crime and for the involvement of the importation of illegal firearms, what does this say about our current political system?
  13.
  14. Statements and actions based upon these scenarios are incredibly ignorant and show that the views and decisions based upon emotional response, especially when there's no data to support them, are unconstitutional and wrong.
  15.
  16. Within my generation I find that along with the environment, equal marriage laws, and expansion of sciences and technology, gun rights is a very important issue. It is a right that I see many politicians in moderate states get voted out of office for as many citizens in those areas find to be very important.
  17.
  18. It would be of great value to your position as a legislator to evaluate your general stance on firearms and give the rights back to the American people.
  19.
  20. Thank you for your time with my e-mail.
  21.
  22. Sincerely,
  23.
  24. [JOESEPH SCHMEAUX]
