  1. Pokemon Stats Primer
  2.
  3. Instead of the Skills that the PC's use, Pokemon have Stats. They are as follows:
  4.
  5. Attack - The raw physical power of your Pokemon. Reflects how much damage they do with attacks that involve making physical
  6. contact, such as Tackle, or Body Slam.
  7. Defense - The endurance of your Pokemon. Decides how much damage they take from attacks that make physical contact.
  8. Special Attack - Attacks that don't make physical contact, but rely on a Pokemon's innate abilities, use the Sp. Attack stat.
  9. Flamethrower and Psychic are good examples of these types of attacks.
  10. Special Defense - Like regular Defense, but instead this gauges how effective Special Attacks are.
  11. Speed - Decides the attack order for a Pokemon and how effective they are a dodging attacks.
  12.
  13. So a Pokemon with +3 in Attack and Speed would be a nimble physical attacker, like a Scyther, whereas one with +3 in Defense and Special Defense would be more like a tank, like Venusaur for example.
  14.
  15. Each species has preset base stats, depending on their in-game base stats. Stats with 50 or below receive no benefit. 50 - 100 get a +1, 100 - 150 get a +2, and 150 - 200 get a +3.
  16.
  17. So for example, a Litwick's in-game base stats are as follows: 30, 55, 65, 55, 20.
  18. It's FATE base stats would be:
  19. +1 in Defense, Special Attack, and Special Defense
  20. +0 in Attack and Speed.
  21.
  22. These stats are enhanced by EVs, or Effort Values; basically you get 5 points to spend where you'd like them to go in order to make your Pokemon better at what you want it to be better at!
  23.
  24. So, again using Litwick, it's final stat spread may look something like this:
  25. +3 in Special Attack
  26. +2 in Special Defense, Defense
  27. +1 in Speed
  28. +0 in Attack
  29.
  30. This gives Litwick a boost in what it's good at (Special Attacks and Defense), while neglecting its weakness (Physical Attacks).
  31.
  32. Base Stats change as the Pokemon change; Evolution might bring a drastic change in a Pokemon's stats! Feel free to swap your partner's EV's around (for a Refresh, of course) to capitalize on this! Bonus EVs will be awarded at Milestones, simulating level ups.
