Rue, and her little brother Nico, had poor luck as far as their parents went.  Their mother was a great person, a strong and independent woman.  However their father… He was a drunkard, and when he found out that he had a son on the way?  He didn’t stick around long enough to even hold his former fiancée’s hand as she gave birth.  With two children to raise and no help from any outside sources, their mother had to turn to taking multiple jobs just to keep them fed.  In order to make a little extra cash, Rue became a Pokémon trainer early in life, her little brother always tagging along nearby.

Then it happened.  The day came when she failed to protect her brother.  Her only Pokémon was her Mightyena, and when the boy was captured, it fought as hard as it could under Rue’s command.  The unthinkable happened.  She was lost.  And when it was all over, he was gone.  She wasn’t going to give up hope, though.  She would find him, and she would rescue him.  Yet when she found him, he had undergone changes that she thought only would’ve existed in a science fiction novel.

And she loved him no less.  He was still her little brother, and he didn’t have to be alone in his struggle.  She volunteered, offering herself up as a test subject.  Just like everything else they had experienced in life, they would pull through this together.
