Q: What is this game?
A: It's a free online Zelda-inspired 2D platformer provided by Newgrounds. It's also hosted at http://www.onemorelevel.com/game/phoenotopia, which is my preference because it's easier to refresh on OneMoreLevel than on Newgrounds, and also because I am more familiar with OneMoreLevel.

Q: Why would you run a game like this?

Q: How do you record footage of a web game?
A: I use OBS. It's a free and easy download at https://obsproject.com/

Q: What split program do you use?
A: I use Llanfair because I am on OS X. This program can be downloaded at http://jenmaarai.com/llanfair/en/
To be honest, I never knew how to set it up until I realized that you need a second mouse button.

Q: What's with the lag?
A: Apparently, my machine has a problem simultaneously recording through OBS, keeping Chrome open and connected, and keeping Llanfair open. For the time being, there's just nothing I can do about it.

Q: Why is the audio quality so bad?
A: I couldn't be bothered to set up a program for capturing computer audio (El Capitan makes it impossible to set up WavTap, and Soundflower seems too complicated for me to deal with), so I just decided to stick with external audio. Also, looking back, I'm considering lowering the game volume a little bit so you can actually hear what I say. (I'm not very audible in this video. Because of this, it is encouraged to turn Closed Captioning on if it is not already, because I subtitle everything noteworthy that I say.)

Q: What does any% mean?
A: Beat the game as fast as possible. This run, at its quickest, ends with a percentage counter (collection rate) of 0%. Timing starts upon selecting "Yes" to creating a new file (file slot must be fresh) and ends after the 66 escape sequence.

Q: What do RTA and IGT mean?
A: Real Time Attack and In Game Time. The former is shown on the splits, and the latter is shown in the credits. The in-game timer is a little funky compared to real time, so pay no heed to the difference between them.

Q: Why are you moving around weirdly with that chest / piggy bank / jar over your head?
A: I am performing a trick that I call Loot Duping, which is the act of making a loot container break twice on the same frame. There are two methods of Loot Duping: pixel-perfect and frame-perfect, but speedruns only use the former because the latter is impractical.
The pixel-perfect method requires throwing the loot container at such a distance that it precisely reaches a corner, hitting the wall and the floor at the same time. For all pixel-perfect loot dupe positionings, please consult the following document:

The frame-perfect method, if you must know, consists of placing a bomb near a chest and destroying it with melee on the exact frame when the bomb explodes.

Q: What does honey do? Why is it so important to the run?
A: Honey temporarily increases Gale's movement speed by 20% and doubles her stamina regeneration, which makes her move faster and helps to clear areas more easily. In particular, there is one skip in Ancient's Crater (Harpy skip) that is impossible without a stamina boost.
Honeyed Tumonds boost stamina for half the time and restore 7 HP, while E-Sodas (of which only one is collected during the whole run) restore 20 HP and have the same effect as honey.

Q: Why do you use save statues so seldom after buying honey?
A: If you save at a save statue with a stamina boost and reload your save, your stamina boost will be gone. One of the challenges of routing is to make sure that as little stamina boost mileage as possible is wasted.

Q: If you die so easily, why not collect Heart Rubies?
A: They are unimportant to the run, and each results in a minor cutscene that wastes about 5 seconds.
