  1. Chapter 135 : Artificial Feeding
  2. NOW I CAN FINALLY SLEEP!
  3. Some of the part which contain the japanese are either i’m not exactly too sure about the translation or felt that there should be a better wording out of it. Please leave message if you think you can make it better
  4. 2nd thing to do : Design wordpress
  5. Chapter 135 : Artificial Feeding
  6. I let Firo pull the carriage and we marched in the middle of the night; we arrived at the outskirts of Raphtalia’s village in the morning.
  7. “Master, we have arrived.”
  8. “Good.”
  9. While I was sleeping, Kiel tried to play a prank on me and got reprimanded harshly by Raphtalia
  10. Of course, with the exception of Raphtalia and Rishia, the slaves got harsh restrictions, and the slave marks got set to activate immediately if they tried to attack me
  11. Also, because of what Bitch did before, now I immediately awaken when something happens.
  12. On the first day, we went to work with the slaves to demolish the building wreckages.
  13. “This house is my important home”
  14. Kiel shouted in rejection.
  15. “It’s good to treasure your house, but the roof has fallen, and the wall has been destroyed. It’s a pity, accept it that there are house that can be repaired and those that can’t
  16. (「大事に思うのは良いが、屋根は落ち、壁は無残にも破壊されている。残念だが、補修できる家と出来ない家があるのを理解しろ」If someone have a better idea to make it sounded better, leave message) [Suggestion for last sentence: The English equivalent of that sentence would be: “It’s a pity, but you must accept that there are two types of houses: those that can be repaired, and those that cannot.” It might be straying too far from the original translation though.]
  17. I searched for stuff that either have monetary value or can still be used but they are either robbed or there simply none, there are still some items remains but they are already too rusted to be used 何か金目になるものや使える物は無いかと調べたのだが、泥棒に入られたのか、物は無いし、あっても錆びていたりして使えそうな物はあまり無かった。(TLN : Sentence far too long for me to word properly but should still be accurate enough) [Suggestion: “I searched for objects with either monetary value or usefulness, but they were either stolen or didn’t exist in the first place. There were a few remaining items, but they were too rusty to be useful.” The sentence is very awkward in English if it’s not split up. I also used an English equivalent phrase for “there simply none”, so that might stray too much from the original.]
  18. The water well seems salvageable.
  19. The field… seems need some considerable maintenance.
  20. “I understand the feeling of not wanting to discard your memories, but from the standpoint of reconstruction the stuff that is going to get in the way needs to be discarded.”
  21. “But-“
  22. “Kiel-kun! Stop saying selfish things!”
  23. Raphtalia warns him. Well, it’s not necessarily needed to stop him
  24. Even so…
  25. “This is the house that you had lived in.”
  26. “Yes!”
  27. “Then, the new house that will be built here will be yours.”
  28. “Eh?”
  29. The brat called Kiel looked at me with a puzzled expression.
  30. “Under the condition that you will become the one who manages the communal house. You will become responsible for the place where the others are gathering.”
  31. “U-un.”
  32. Kiel nodded to my ambiguous words (言葉を濁すようにキールは頷く。Anyone?)
  33. “That’s why — NOW! Firo!”
  34. “YES!”
  35. The moment Kiel showed an opening, Firo charged at the deserted house and promptly did a flying kick at the fulcrum of the house and destroyed it.
  36. “AaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!?” (TL: Yes, scream louder)
  37. Leaving the dumbfounded Kiel, I went to the next task.
  38. Before noon, the materials for building houses and the castle’s soldiers that the queen prepared arrived,
  39. Stone, lumber… and plaster?
  40. “Hero of the shield-sama’s objective is to reconstruct this place?”
  41. The soldier seems to have heard the story from the queen
  42. “Aa, at the very least I want the roof to be constructed before the day ends. I’m aware of this unreasonable request, but I’m counting on you” (TLN 無理を承知で頼む I’m being liberal here)
  43. “We might be soldiers, but we do have some knowledge about construction. So please leave it to us.”
  44. “Please do.”
  45. Construction and… Conscription are they have any relations? (TLN : It seems the queen picked the soldiers that know how to construct stuff, probably engineer corps or something) [Suggestion: Maybe something like “Construction and conscription... Are they related?” would be better. It involves moving the ellipsis, but the sentence works better in English this way.]
  46. And then I realized it was about to become noon.
  47. “For the time being we will leave the building to the soldiers, Raphtalia, Firo, and Rishia”
  48. “Yes” (Raphtalia)
  49. “Wha—at?” (Firo)
  50. “What is it? (Rishia)
  51. Those three replied to my call
  52. “After this I will start making lunch, after you finished your meal you three along with the slaves will go out and begin demon extermination.” [Suggestion: The sentence sounds better as “After this, I will start making lunch. After you finish your meals, you three will go out with the slaves and begin demon extermination.”]
  53. “Understood.”
  54. “Yeah.”
  55. “I’ll do my best.”
  56. “I’ll leave the squad composition to you. Having too many people will be detrimental to the EXP that will be obtained, okay?”
  57. I haven’t attempted to do an actual measurement, just how much will the amount decreased?
  58. More like, how does the distribution system works? Or they sharing it I have no idea at all (I have no Idea how to word this better than that それとも共有なのか今一理解していないんだよな。) [Suggestion: “I haven’t attempted to do an actual measurement; just how much will the amount decrease? Rather, how does the distribution system work? Or will they share all of it? I have no idea at all.” Using rather may be straying away from the original way of speaking a bit, but it’s a bit less awkward. Using more like is fine, but I wanted to add the option. As for the second part, the translation to English is a bit strange, so I tried to use the English equivalent which gets the point across.]
  59. “Is there anyone who knows the details?”
  60. “Um…”
  61. Rishia raised her hand apologetically
  62. “What?”
  63. “The people who are inside the party receive the same amount of EXP. The maximum limit for that is 6 people. Anymore than that will cause it to decrease.”
  64. Oh, so that’s why you were left out.
  65. Though if I said that she would probably cry ‘Fueee’ so it’s better to stay silent. It’s annoying.
  66. In an expedition with a large amount of people there doesn’t seem to be a problem in dividing the group.
  67. That means that it is sufficient to organize 6 people in 1 team.
  68. In the case that multiple team fighting against one demon it’s better to separate into different areas
  69. [Suggestion: Maybe something like, “Instead of multiple teams fighting one demon, it’s better to separate into different areas.” would be better.]
  70. “I’ve understand” (「話は聞いたな」Not sure to go with literal translation or liberal) [Suggestion: English equivalent would be “I’ve heard that before.”, but “I understand.” works fine to get the point across.]
  71. “Yes. Then we will split up.”
  72. “Leave it to me.”
  73. I gave authority to Raphtalia to make a party
  74. At the present the slaves numbered 8 that’s why Rishia led 2 person, Raphtalia and Firo led 3 person [Suggestion: I’m not exactly sure how to word this this. I’d like to use the word presently, but the literal definition doesn’t match. “At the present time, there are eight slaves, which is why Rishia led two people, and Raphtalia and Firo led 3 people each.” would be my best guess.”
  75. “Then I’ll start cooking lunch, so lend me a hand”
  76. “Yes!”
  77. Then the three people begin to help as much as they can.
  78. “Raphtalia-chan will be helping out?”
  79. Kiel who just recovered from his absentminded state began to stare at me who are in the middle of cooking preparation while asking Raphtalia.
  80. He recovered pretty quickly. Is it because he is still a child?
  81. “Raphtalia-chan were bad at housework”[Suggestion: Instead of “were bad”, “used to be bad” or “was always bad” would better indicate the point Kiel is trying to making.]
  82. “Erm…”
  83. With a troubled look Raphtalia, sends me a glance
  84. What? What kind of stuff do you expect me to?
  85. She seems want to show her friend her good side, Raphtalia timidly began to open her mouth
  86. “Should I help?”
  87. “Should I just randomly grill some meat or make some soup? I would prefer it if it were a dish that I could just leave over a fire for a while.”
  88. The meals that I made taste good so I’ve been the one who did the cooking.
  89. I’ve already become used to it. Lately everyone has been leaving the cooking to me.
  90. “It’s enough if you just help me clean up.”
  91. I began to cut the ingredients to chunks. The meat was large so it was kind of hard to cut with a cooking knife
  92. With that said, when Raphtalia was the one who cooked the food it didn’t taste good, and Firo just said to leave all the cooking to me…
  93. I ignore their complaints and began cooking.
  94. あ、盾の料理レシピで作るという方法もあるにはあるのだが、これには大きな落とし穴がある。
  95. 料理が楽になると霊亀と戦う前、カルミラ島で作ったのだが――。(TLN Sorry mOm) [Suggestion: No idea how to translate this; my best guess would be “Oh, there is a way to cook recipes in the shield, but there is a drawback.” for the first part. Nevermind, I have no idea what I’m talking about.]
  96. “Food is coming out of the shield!”
  97. Firo stared at my shield enviously with great excitement.
  98. “Ah, It was made with the shield’s skill.”
  99. “It’s awesome.”
  100. And the food served is a spaghetti like food that is unique to this world.
  101. The name of the food seems to be naporata.
  102. To be honest It sounded like the variety kind of pasta from my world, the shield seems to change the name of the item so it resembles the item from my world.
  103. “It taste somewhat… normal.”
  104. “Yeah… normal.”
  105. Seems like the food quality was affected, it tasted normal and it doesn’t contain the subtle delicate tastes. (そう、品質の影響なのか、普通としか表現できない微妙な味の食べ物でしかなかった。)
  106. It doesn’t taste bad. But it doesn’t taste good either. It’s definitely normal.
  107. “Master’s cooking is way better.”
  108. “That’s true. Even when it’s cold, the food that Naofumi-sama made is still a delicious”
  109. “I- I got it.”
  110. For some reason those two had a reproachful gaze that made me remember that I’ve been looked at with those kind of eyes.
  111. Come to think of it, these two no longer satisfied by food from restaurant and only pleased by the food that I cooked
  112. I don’t think it’s possible to become a gourmet after just eating my food once. But they do become motivated for that (美食家気取りなのもどうかと思うが、一応食べはする。けどやる気の面で引っかかるというか。 TLN: Absolutely no idea how to made a sentence out of this and at this point, it’s a guesswork)
  113. Come to think of it, what if the situation where I am the cook got reversed?
  114. For the time being I better make a cooking team because at the moment there is no restaurant in the surrounding area (とりあえず料理班もいずれ作らねば、じゃないと領地で料理屋をさせられかねない。)
  115. “Here, the food is ready, after you finished eating go out already.”
  116. I distribute the meat that I grilled above the crude iron plate and the soup that have been cooked
  117. “As I thought this is absolutely delish.”
  118. “Yeah! It’s really good.”
  119. The slaves devour the food with smile on their face
  120. I also treat the soldiers that made the house some food as well
  121. “This…. I’ve never eaten such a delicious grilled meal before!?”
  122. “Are you kidding? They made some of those at the castle and they didn’t taste good at all.”
  123. The shield’s handmade correction is endless
  124. Did you guys knead any salt and spice on the meat beforehand?
  125. The slaves devoured the food that I cooked.
  126. Nevertheless, there is no need to eat that much. (それでも、そこまで大量に食ってはいないな。)
  127. It’ll be bad if I don’t prepare enough food after they returned from leveling.
  128. “Now then, you lot, each and everyone of you will be carrying a weapon, and then you will fight”
  129. And with that declaration, the slaves became scared.
  130. Just like the old Raphtalia, the girl turned pale when she received the bladed tools. [Suggestion: There might be a better translation for this. I’m not sure though. Believe in yourself over me.]
  131. I hand the second-hand weapons that I got from the castle to them. Most of them are daggers designed for beginners
  132. “Prepare yourself that unless you did not fight you will feel pain on your chest. And if you do that don’t ever think of returning to your hometown”[Suggestion: Given the context, I think the translation would be better as “Prepare yourself. If you do not fight, you will feel pain on your chest. And if you do that, don’t ever think of returning to your hometown.”]
  133. “Gu….”
  134. Kiel tried to complain to me on behalf of the others.
  135. But Raphtalia interrupted him and prevented him from saying anything
  136. “I don’t exactly need you people for anything. Only for territory development. But, because Raphtalia has been obediently following my orders you guys will become her present. So don’t make a misunderstanding or anything”[Suggestion: “So don’t misunderstand or anything.”]
  137. The slaves glaring at me provokingly.
  138. I’ve gotten used to playing the role of the bad guy in this world. Besides, I’m not doing this for charity or anything. There is no need to anxiously worry about the future since I’m planning to return to my own world anyway. I need to prepare a place for Raphtalia so she can spend her time peacefully.
  139. “Now then… Firo, I want you to pick all the monsters that you defeat into the wagon. There are a lot of uses for them”[Suggestion: “place” might be a better choice than “pick”. Alternatively, you can change the whole sentence to “Now then... Firo, I want you to pick up all the monsters that you defeat and place them in the wagon.” if you want to keep the word “pick”]
  140. “Yeess!”
  141. Mainly as food.
  142. Later, just like what Ren did, I should absorb those stuff into the shield (TLN : Probably as item instead of shield unlock)
  143. Right now there are a lot of meaning that there are still to do (what? こっちは色々な意味でまだまだ先だと思うけどな。) [Suggestion: No clue. Maybe “I think they’re ahead in many ways.” but... Probably not.]
  144. “Come on, off you go then. See ya”
  145. I point at Firo’s carriage and ordered them.
  146. The slaves reluctantly ride the carriage. Firo started to pull the carriage and went to hunt
  147. “Mind the speed”
  148. “Ye-s!”
  149. The carriage made gotogoto sound as Firo pulled them
  150. “I’ll leave the house construction to you then.”
  151. “U-understood.”
  152. I asked the soldiers to begin construction, set the shield to start compounding, and next is to start cooking.
  153. It’s only a little bit more until the demon egg hatches.
  154. Before the Spirit Turtle meat runs out I need to find a way to supply food.
  155. 「で……」
  156. The slaves that went together with Raphtalia returned back in the evening.
  157. Everyone is exhausted. The demon that got defeated is loaded onto the chained carts. Right now we need food immediately, they did well. [Suggestion: Was it only one demon? If not, then use “The demons that were defeated”]
  158. But right now, there is something that is more awful.
  159. Guuuuuu……。
  160. Guuu……。
  161. Kyururururururu……。
  162. Gugyururururururu……。
  163. The sound sounded like roar
  164. I wonder what would happen when they suddenly increased in level in an environment where food is scarce? I’m slightly curious.
  165. Perhaps they won’t die but they’ll definitely be starving. I think that while looking at Raphtalia.
  166. The body which is undergoing rapid growth wants nourishment thus they became hungry.
  167. “You guys finally returned, did you guys fight properly?”
  168. “Erm, everyone did their best.”
  169. Raphtalia answered with a smile
  170. I saw the slaves faces and their expression are difficult
  171. I didn’t ask for a Sparta kind of thing, but they seem to be unsatisfied.
  172. “Fuee…. So tired.”
  173. “Oh, Rishia, how was your condition?”
  174. “It feels easier to move than before”
  175. Certainly her status are higher before the level reset. With this battle should become a little more easier
  176. “Rishia-neechan, Why are you wearing the plushie?”
  177. “That is because Rishia is a plushie maniac.”
  178. “Fuee!”
  179. Rishia tried to deny with shaking her head, but there is no mistake about that.
  180. “It really was that after all”
  181. Kiel finally consented about the management
  182. He hates me so he can’t trust me
  183. “If you work then it’ll be good. It’s dinner now”
  184. I put the spirit turtle stew and the steak that I have prepared beforehand on the table.
  185. I do this because I’ve been expecting it.
  186. I made a lot of them but they’ll definitely disappear immediately.
  187. “””Waaaaaa”””
  188. The slaves began to eat excitedly
  189. Yoshiyoshi….
  190. “Master, Firo’s share?”
  191. “You have it.”
  192. I take out Firo’s part
  193. They are about 1.5 times of the slave’s part
  194. “Only this much? I want to eat more”
  195. “If you want more go hunt it yourself”
  196. “Buuuu”
  197. Firo sulks
  198. Sorry, but I’ve quite a large amount. I can’t serve only to just one person.
  199. “””Thank you for the meal”””
  200. What? When I was in the middle of chatting with Firo they already ate everything!?
  201. For the time being they are satisfied
  202. “Alright, kids, go to bed immediately for tomorrow’s preparation.”
  203. “…Ye-s”
  204. I crammed the slaves into one the house that the soldiers from the castle repaired for half a day, and the rest of us went into the house to sleep
  205. The house’s windows are still broken; it can be used to defend from the rain but the wind is still blowing in.
  206. I wonder what I should do for tomorrow’s food.
  207. “I’ll sleep at the place where everyone is”
  208. “Got it, I’m counting on you to make them used to it even if it’s just for a little bit.”
  209. “Yes.”
  210. Raphtalia leave in order to sleep with her old friend
  211. Firo was already half asleep. コクリコクリとしている。(I can’t remember what the sound effect meant)
  212. Rishia are reading a book that she took out of nowhere. She is a hardworking person
  213. I began compounding for the preparation of my next plan. While at it, I went and checked the level of all slaves It seem the average of the level that they raised are 15。Their status all rise as well. Judging from Raphtalia’s growth patter, I want to raise the level of them even for those that are unsuitable to combat to at least 30 [Suggestion: “While at it, I went and checked the levels of the slaves. Their levels increased by an average of 15. Their stats all rose as well. Judging from Raphtalia’s growth pattern, I want to raise their levels, even for those unsuited for combat, to at least level 30.”]
