  13. -Catching pokemon-
  14. To catch a pokemon you tap the image as it appears on your map. Simple as that.
  15. *what if there aren't any on my map?
  16. Check your list (bottom left corner). If the servers aren't dying there will be mons there. Each mon on your list will be given a number of paw prints. These show their relative distance from you.
  17. *Do locations change what mons
  18. Maybe? But RNG is in play so while some mons are more common in some areas most mons are around if you look hard enough
  19. *what is that moving grass visual
  20. These are spawn points. Mons aren't guaranteed to be there but they will be often.
  21. *Why aren't they always at spawns
  22. Mons move
  23. *How do I get stronger Mons?
  24. The amount of visible mons increases as your character levels. So does the relative cp of mons caught
  25. *this zubat is kicking my ass
  26. Git gud. Wait until the green circle is largest and throw the pokeball into that zone to capture.
  27. *my circle isn't green and it isn't staying in the ball
  28. Welcome to the big leagues. This mon is better quality and thus harder to catch. Getting great throws can help but using Razz berries is also clever.
  29. *but this shit eats my battery. Do I have to have it up all the time
  30. Yes. Face the screen down to turn off the display if you have powersaving mode enabled in options.
  31.
  32. -Improving Mons-
  33. *stats
  34. Each mon has a move set, hp, and their current cp as well as an arc of power progress behind the 3d model
  35. *potential
  36. Potential is the minimum and maximum of your mon. For example your Pidgey might be cp40 with a minimum 30cp and a maximum 50cp
  37. *power
  38. Power is a ratio. For the above pidgey it's power is 50% as it's half way between the min and max
  39. *move sets
  40. If you've played pokemon you should know the basics.
  41. *Evolution
  42. Evolving a pokemon increases its potential and changes its moveset at random. It does not however change the power. It will still be the same ratio of the new potential.
  43. *powering up
  44. Costs the same at any point of the evolution. Changes the ratio
  45. *It says I can stil power up after levelling
  46. Yes levelling can raise the maximum cp attained via powering. Higher potential mons will still get bigger returns, however.
  47.
  48. *but other people have stronger mons despite me maxing my power!
  49. Well thems the breaks. Different pokemon have different potentials. Potentials are generally higher the higher you character level is which means regardless of the cp the newest mon is usually better because the larger potential seems to carry across evolutions.
  50. *How can I see the potential?
  51. You just have to guess based on the arc
  52.
  53. -Pokestops-
  54. Usually based on land marks these locations give you items. They reset every 5 minutes.
  55.
  56. -gyms-
  57. Gyms require the trainer to be in a team. The official /pgg/ team is instinct (yellow). Don't let stripclubfag tell you otherwise.
  58. *interacting with gyms
  59. Gyms can be joined or fought. If your team owns a gym there can be the option to leave a pokemon there to assit them.
  60. *multiple mon gyms
  61. The higher level a gym is the more mons can be left there. You get as many mons to fight with as the gym has.
  62. *levelling gyms
  63. Each successful fight at a gym gets you prestige which increases its 'rank'. Levelling this up allows for more people and assumably stronger defences (it doesn't always work out this way)
  64. *gym leading
  65. A trainer can only participate in 10 gyms at any one time. Rewards can be claimed each day and the more gyms you own AT THE TIME OF THE CLAIM the more rewarded you will be.
  66.
  67. -Items-
  68. There are types of pokeballs. These are used to catch mons.
  69. Incense is used to find more mons. When you're using it you will get random encounters not based on map movement with pokemon that aren't region locked to you.
  70. Potions are obvious and so are revives
  71. Lures are global and help everyone in the area that you use them
  72. Razz berries help capture harder mons.
  73.
  74. -Misc-
  75. *How do I get jolteon
  76. Evee are completely random in their evolution; good luck faggot.
  77. *but how do I trade and fight my friends
  78. Trading is supposedly soon and fighting might happen, maybe. It was in the previews so we know they know that we want it.
  79. *Wait are you sure I should go with the "official /pgg/ team"?
  80. No. If you have friends, especial close to you geographically who play you should all go one colour. If you have a neighbourhood that is dominated by one colour you MAY want to join that and share in the loot. HOWEVER there are only so many gym posts and you might also get pushed out unceremoniously by your companions or let down when a kid adds a 10cp mon to your gym letting opponents use two 300cp mons against your 400cp. It's pretty contextual.
