A Romance Best Known as Unlikely Part 1

Star Butterfly was at it again. Using her crazy magic to bother my spirit squad again.
UUUUUUgh, why does she have to be such a pain?!
But I have a plan this time. If she thinks she's going to mess with my girls, I'll just mess with hers.
Except, she doesn't have anyone really. She has Marco and that one loser who keeps getting records. Between those two losers, I'd rather go for the cute one.
Wait, did I call Safe boy, cute?

<Scene-Gymnasium 2:53pm>
Brittney walks up to a cheering Star. "Hey Butterfly." The annoyed cheerleader says. "Don't you remember our convo from the last time you came here?"
Star does a quick spin with an extremely big smile on her face. "I'm sorry Britt, but I need to be here right now. I'd hate to bother you and your squad." Star gets a serious look on her face. "However, I have a mission!"
Brittney raises an eyebrow and responds "Hmm?"
"MARCO'S BIRTHDAY IS COMING UP SOON" Star yells. "Aaaaaaaaaaand I don't have any Earthbucks. So I was hoping that I could learn something from you guys!"
The surprised and partially deaf cheerleader just blinked a few times.  "What did you want, ButterflY?"
Chantelle quickly runs up up to Star. "It's okay Brittney. No need to worry about Star. I'll take of her and out of your way." She quickly turns to Star and whispers. "If you promise not to make fun of my behind, I'll show-"
Brittney interrupts "Yeah, whatever loser. I'll help"
Chantelle and the other members of the cheer squad look up in shock.
The elated alien princess hugs and spins around Brittney. "I knew you were a good person!"
"Rude much?" responds the somewhat dizzy spirit squad boss. "I'll need to know Marco first, before I can help you. I'll teach you to impress your boyfriend so that he doesn't even think of other girls."
Star puts down Brittney. "Oh he's not my boy friend, he's my best friend!" Star says cheerily. "Everyone knows that he looooooooooooooooooooves Jackie."
Brittney rolls her eyes and leaves the still stunned cheerleaders in the gymnasium.

Is that Brittney? Oh this isn't good. She's just gonna be rude to Star again. I'm gonna stop this now.

<Scene-Right in front of Marco's Locker 3:01pm>
Marco quickly, but not too fast as to go above the non-spoken hallway speed limit, heads to the two girls
"MARCO!" Star yells as she runs and hugs her bestie.
Brittney just walks over to the buddies and sighs. "Hey Los-. I mean Diaz."
Marco gives Star the most confused face she's seen since 5 minutes ago at the gymnasium.
"Oh Marco." Star excitedly says as she lets go of Marco. "She actually wanted to come and hangout with us."
A very unamused Brittney just replies. "Yeah"
Marco blinks a few times. "Well okay. I guess this was the surprise you wanted me to wait for, Star. As long as you two are getting along, I'm happy." He turns to the usual suspect in randomness "What're your plans for the 3 of us, Star?"
Star just grabs Brittney's right arm and Marco's left and bolts forward.
The startled cheerleader just quips "Wherever you're taking me, don't break my nail!"

I really didn't expect to see any fighting today. Those two are just amazing. Star just magicked all those monsters with a few cheer squad moves. I'll ask her about that later. But Marco. Wow. I didn't think he'd be that ripped. I'm super happy that monster ripped off both that weird hoodie and his underneath shirt. I hope the cutie doesn't notice I kept staring.

<Outside the Echo Mall's Ice Cream Shoppe 4:20pm>
Brittney hands Marco his cone. While Star is nearly done with her own.
"Thanks for holding my ice cream, Brittney. I can't really do Ka-raw-tey without both hands." Kung-fu boy takes a lick and looks at Star. "How did she fight while eating Ice Cream? Maybe it gave her ideas for attacks?"
Star skips to her human buddies and excitedly says. "Did you guys see it? My Strawberry-supersugary-gelato-swirl?" I gotta write that down in the ol' book" Star gleams while taking the last bite of her cone.
"Oh Brittney, I saw you staring at Marco most of the fight. Did you wanna learn Karate like Marco?" Star strikes a Karate pose, very akin to one you'd see in the movies. "You'd have to spar with Sensei Marco and his rival."
Brittney blushes and responds "I wasn't-"
"Star, Jeremy isn't my rival. He's just a punk kid who's staying on my level by using his money. I'm obviously the best" Mr. Sensei gloats. "Oh I interrupted you Brittney. What did you want to say?"
Both eyes fall on the red faced girl. "O-oh. I was just going to say that I do cheer-leading. It might be great help for my squad's moves." The scarlet gal sweats a bit and asks. "Can you show me some moves, Marco?"
Marco, always happy to lend a hand, responds. "Of course I can. Though not tomorrow. My parents are throwing me a birthday party and I can't miss. They get so excited with celebrations."
Brittney quickly interjects. "Maybe you can show me today? I'll teach you how to impress Jackie Lynn Thomas." You could almost see the thirst in Brittney's voice. If you weren't either of these oblivious Main characters, that is.
Marco's ears perk up immediately and stutters. "Wait seriously? I thought you were just a snobby rich girl. But you're actually really nice!"
Brittney smiles. "Wait what did you call me?" At the sudden realization of the backhanded compliment.
"Nooooothing."Star bursts in and says. "Let's just all be friends here. We're having a good time. Right?"
The two smitten, but not at each other, teens reply "Yeah."
Marco adds "But it's a bit chilly without my shirt."
A light bulb appears over Star's head. "I'll get it. You two just continue being friends. And I'll run home and grab that shirt and sweater signature Marco style."
Before Marco can interject, Star bolts away. The most energetic person either Marco or Brittney have ever met. Not realizing that she gave these two the perfect opportunity to get closer, but even more so.
"Wanna take a walk then, Brittney?" The boy offers.
"Yeah, lemme just finish my cone. A craving has been building inside me for a while." She replies.

I didn't think the stuck up leader would be this nice. She actually seems to be interested in me. No girl has been this interested in me other than Star. I also noticed she stopped calling me Diaz. I'm now just Marco. I never realized how nice it was to be called by just your first name.

<Echo Creek Park, somewhere along one of the many paths leading to open fields 5:03pm>
Marco does some more karate strikes and poses for Brittney. Getting quite sweaty and a bit winded. "Hey Brittney, mind grabbing one of my hand towels in my back pack?"
"Yeah sure." Brittney replies while somewhat mesmerized by the sweaty, naked caramel skinned boy. She reaches in and gives Marco the hand towel. It has a plain red colour, like his sweaters. But stylized in such a way that Brittney knew she would have to spend at least 100$ on this quality.
The sculpted karate boy wipes his sweat off with the towel. He asks the stunned girl. "Wanna to take a break by the tree coming up on their left?"
Brittney simply nods and follows.
They sit down side by side. Marco starting up "Ya know, I've had quite a fun time with you. Every other girl around me has consistently stolen my keys, is beautiful, gets hurt anytime she tries to talk to me, is beautiful, or is Star. I'm glad you're a lot more down to Earth, Brittney. I don't think I would have ever said that before today." Marco then ponders if any of those other girls he thought of would be more or less pleasant if he gave them the chance to spend time with them. But quickly brushed off the thoughts. He's with Brittney and didn't want to ignore his new friend.
"While those constant quips are kinda rude. I do deserve them. I've been pretty mean to you and Butterfly. I mean Star. I'm sorry Marco." Brittney remarks.
This must be the day of surprises, because Marco didn't think he'd ever hear this from Brittany, or most of what he's said to her. Getting out of his thought bubble and responding to the sincere cheer leader. "That's alright. This is a pretty great day before my birthday. Kicked some monster butt, had some ice cream without it getting toppled by said monsters, and made a new friend." He turns toward his gal pal and gives her the warmest smile she has ever seen.
She blushes a bit and asks. "H-hey Marco. Would you like me to keep my end of the deal?"
"You don't have to if you don't want to." Marco responds rather nonchalantly.
"No I'll show it to you now!" The embarrassed girl declares. "But you need to like, close your eyes."
Marco a bit taken aback, but with no reason to cast doubt, does as told.
Brittney bravely closes in and kisses him.
Marco falls back out of the kiss. "What was that?!"
With a very unconvincing lie she says. "I was just showing you how to impress that girl. Girls like good kisser."
"Well thanks for that." Marco remarks. "There goes my first kiss I was saving for Jackie." He turns towards the blushing squad leader. "You know you should only kiss people you like? Was this whole day just a joke so you could do a dare on me?"
"NO! I mean I know you should only kiss guys you like. But that's why I did it. I thought you were cute, so I wanted to check you out before any other girl did. But then I actually fell for you." She starts getting flustered. "Please don't think I did this because of anyone else. It was all my idea!" Tears start to well up in her eyes
Marco makes a double take. "You actually like me? Like seriously like me? That's...Wow." He hesitates for a moment and then with the pride of the Diaz men responds. "Since you actually like me, I do like you myself." This immediately got Brittney to stare intensely at Marco. "Would you like to go out with me?"
The love stricken girl jumps into his arms and gives him another kiss. Instead of falling out of the smooch, they continue kissing. Quickly wrapping their arms around one another. Making sure the other won't leave this embrace. The spit-swapping lasts for what feels like hours of teen love, but was more like 7 minutes in real time.
The kiss releases, as do their arms. They entangle their fingers together and just sit back and relax on the tree. Marco still without his shirt.
