  1. >As the evening wears on, you start feeling fatigued
  2. >That Sombra character had taken something from you, and it almost feels like you needed it
  3. >You find it hard to perform spells
  4. >Because of the exhaustion or something else, you can't tell
  5. >Another thing you notice is that magic related things aren't registering in your mind like they did earlier
  6. >Now they sort of leave a shadow
  7. >A shadow to recognize things by, but not learn from
  8. >Staying awake is becoming increasingly difficult
  9. >Twilight is trying to lecture you about how magic works, but you aren't alert enough to absorb the lesson
  10. >Her speech becomes a background noise, and eventually you tune her out completely
  11. >Then things get weird
  12. >They start small at first
  13. >Like Twilight mouthing incoherent things
  14. >The fact that you an't hear her anymore
  15. >Then her shadow flickers
  16. >That's when the changes become more drastic
  17. >Walls start to ooze away
  18. >They slide away to become bars
  19. >Twilight sits on the other side of the bars, and is moving backwards though standing still
  20. >Even the floor changes, its colors seeping away into something grey and lifeless
  21. >Looking around, it's like you're in a cell
  22. >Only the walls are all bars
  23. >And they curve upwards, forming a dome
  24. >Past the bars, colors are still swirling into some semblance of recognition
  25. > A grey and lifeless cavern, stretching north to south seemingly for eternity
  26. >And at the bottom, a black abyss, following the tunnel of a cavern you're in
  27. >At the same time as all this scenery is happening, you feel something
  28. >An impression of magic, a shadow
  29. >You don't know what it is, but you feel it trying
  30. >Trying to come in
  31. >The one thing that stops you from being able to stop this force is the recognition of where you are
  32. >You're in a cage that will imprison you for an eternity
  33. Just to test and see, you reach out and grasp a bar in your hand
  34. >Only to rear back in pain, just like...something
  35. >Not just physical pain
  36. >The torment and agony of millions of lives is what you feel
  37. >The pain is so much to bear that the shadow trying to come in eases back for a moment, before finally entering in while your gaurd was down
  38. >You can't really do much about it though
  39. >You are still waiting for the pain to leave
  40. >Truly, there are all kinds of pain
  41. >And what just hit you was easily the combined form of all of them
  42. >Some eternity later, someone stands before you
  43. >Or, right in front of the cage bars
  44. >When you can see clearly, you find it to be nobody you've seen before
  45. >Another alicorn, it would seem
  46. >Unlike the last two you've met, this one has a flowing, gas-like mane
  47. >Looking much like the night sky
  48. >The rest of it matched that theme with the dark blue coat
  49. >You stand up and walk closer, stopping before you reach the bars, not keen on a repeat experience
  50. >Then it speaks
  51. What manner of being are you? To have tried escaping here...
  52. >Escape?
  53. >Is she blind?
  54. >You are clearly stuck he-
  55. >Small memories come back to you
  56. >Enough to give you the piece of the story you need to know
  57. >You did get out of here before
  58. >You were trapped for eons, but you got out
  59. >At a cost
  60. >You recall bearing the excruciating weight of the pain the bars hold
  61. >Just the memory hurts to think about
  62. >You recall how you refused to let go, and climbed your way to the top
  63. >You remember squeezing your way out of the small hole there
  64. >You even remember the massive relief of being able to let go
  65. >And fall into the river below, with only the thought of getting out running through your head
  66. >All of these memories come back to you in an instant
  67. >And you snap your attention back to the starry alicorn
  68. I. Am a free man.
  69. >And you've proved it
  70. >You aren't held by fate, you endured the largest of sufferings, and crawled out of the river Lethe
  71. >Nearly empty, but strong
  72. >You had come to understand that no matter what, there is an inch of freedom that will never be taken away from you
  73. >It can be broken, but never truly erased
  74. >Your will
  75. >Your will to be
  76. >That's how you escaped
  77. >You surpassed limits because you found that they don't have to exist
  78. >Willpower is as strong as you make it to be
  79. >And you have made sure it is stronger than any limits one would place on you
  80. >Newfound energy flows through you
  81. >You look the alicorn dead in the eyes
  82. And I will not be imprisoned against my will.
  83. >As you say this, you reach out and grasp the bars in front of you
  84. >It hurts
  85. >More than anyone can ever percieve
  86. >But you hold on
  87. >You will not be bested by mere bars
  88. >The pain grows more intense as the bars try to keep you in
  89. >Your volume rises as you fight through the pain
  90. I WILL NOT BE KEPT HERE!
  91. >You shout, as you break off the two bars of the cage and throw them into the river
  92. >The alicorn, who seems to be standing on nothing takes a step back
  93. >And then another
  94. >Then it shimmered
  95. >...
  96. >You walk out to it, ignoring gravity
  97. >You reach out with your left hand, as if to try and touch the being in front of you
  98. >Who is trembling a bit in fear, but calms a little at your movement
  99. Who are you?
  100. >You ask, faking an amazed expression
  101. >The pony straightens up, shimmering for the briefest instant in doing so
  102. I am Luna, Princess of the Night
  103. >The shadow
  104. >The one that had entered into your mind
  105. ....
  106. >You grin
  107. Nice try, bastard
  108. >And give him an uppercut straight to the jaw, making a snapping sound that resonated through the illusion world, shattering it
  109. >The alicorn howls in pain, dropping its disguise
  110. >And revealing himself to be none other than King Sombra
  111. >With his disguise goes most of what you realize to be a massively complex spell
  112. >All of this was a dream
  113. >But that's not all
  114. >Being a dream, the spirit was partly seperated from the body
  115. >He had led your spirit to the actual cage you were once imprisoned in
  116. >On top of that, he had aimed to use that alicorn as a way to keep you docile to your imprisonment
  117. >His flaw was that you don't know such a pony
  118. You failed
  119. >You say as you walk over to him, still clutching his jaw from where you hit it
  120. >He tries to back away, but you don't let him
  121. >Instead, you pin him by his tail, getting a good look at him
  122. >He wore armor on his legs, a crown, and a red robe
  123. >His eyes were green and red, and his mane a flowing black
  124. >The remnents of some part of his master spell still clings, but you can feel your will overcoming it
  125. >You take your time looking him over
  126. >Then you let him go
  127. Fight me then
  128. >He looks at you in surprise
  129. >You just stare evenly at him
  130. >Then hi smiles
  131. >In a really creepy way
  132. >Just before your will breaks hold of the spell, he replies
  133. One thousand paces; One thousand faces
  134. Ten hundred to defend; Ten hundred ways to meet your end
  135. >And with that, he pulls out of the spell before you can shatter it
  136. >Immediately, you shoot your eyes open
  137. >And the scene before you is beyond your immediate comprehension
