  6. +August Break __ Howdy - I have a question for you. Do you really believe that a gentleman as *profoundly disabled* as "Stephen Hawking" can *honestly* keep up with his field _*without*_ the help of a "ghost writer"?
  7.
  8. I am asking whether you _truly believe_ that *all* of his words are *his own* (painstakingly written by twitching a single cheek muscle) or can you accept that *at least some of his words* might not be his own? (Because of his *profound* disability.)

  14.
  15. +August Break __ Thank you for the prompt reply. I am not suggesting that his cognitive function is impaired. Despite his profound disability I am happy to assume his cognitive function is not impaired because that is not what I meant.
  16.
  17. Rather - I am pointing out that his *ability to express thoughts* (however clear those thoughts may be) is what's *extremely impaired*.
  18.
  19. Surely you'd agree that it would have required *vastly longer* for "Stephen Hawking" to have written your 88 word reply than was needed for you to write it. Hopefully that can help to illustrate the point I am making. That if *anyone* in this world were to benefit from a "ghost writer" _it would *definitely* be "Stephen Hawking"!_
  20.
  21. While I can only speculate as to *why* a "ghost writer" would write through "Stephen Hawking" - whoever does so would have their words backed by a widely held belief they had came from the "world's most intelligent person".
  22.
  23. Ask random people in the street to name "the world's most intelligent person" and many would reply, "Albert Einstein". Ask them to name the world's most intelligent person *who is still alive* and many would reply, "Stephen Hawking".
  24.
  25. I hope you won't dispute the reality that many more people know of "Stephen Hawking" _as a "genius"_ than they do for his works.
  26.
  27. There is much to gain from such a reputation (and I won't dispute it is deserved).
  28.
  29. For example - should I tell people that the *"universe functions like a dream"* it may be ignored. After all - who is "Lesta"? But should "Stephen Hawking" tell people that the universe functions like a dream - it can end up having a *profound impact* on people and their thinking.
  30.
  31. Not only does "Stephen Hawking" benefit from a ghost writer but whoever gets to write his words will also be enormously benefited.
  32.

  37.
  38. +August Break __ While there are some who think "Stephen Hawking" is communicating in real time - most understand that "Stephen Hawking" does not actually "speak" in real time.
  39.
  40. Everything we hear him "speak" comes from *prepared responses* that were written in advance. I.e., his team are given interview questions in advance and the interview is conducted after the responses have been written.
  41.
  42. Let's talk about his interviews since "Stephen Hawking" does quite a few of them and - _more importantly_ - *gives his opinion in them*.
  43.
  44. Because "Stephen Hawking" gives his opinion in interviews it is important that we are hearing *his* opinion and not the opinion of someone else (e.g., a ghost writer).
  45.
  46. (By the way, have you seen the recent interview he did with "Piers Morgan"?)
  47.
  48. Since writing responses to basic/common interview questions is an area where a "ghost writer" would not need to be a "genius" the use of one would be a *great time-saver*.
  49.
  50. I too like the motto _"trust but verify"_ and it certainly applies to this matter. You mentioned that the predictive text system "Stephen Hawking" utilises is sophisticated and fast. I don't doubt that it is.
  51.
  52. *But have you ever seen a demonstration of it?* Wouldn't it be amazing to see the great "Stephen Hawking" do his thing?!
  53.
  54. I think if there were footage of "Stephen Hawking" *actually using* the technology to compose sentences there would be _no need_ to *verify* what we are most definitely having to _trust!_
  55.
  56. While it all sounds plausible enough - there does not appear to be any practical demonstration of the technology being used by ALS sufferers let alone able-bodied people. That's not to say it doesn't work but that the speed may not be nearly as fast as you have been led to believe.
  57.
  58. Until we see a *demonstration* of able-bodied people composing sentences by twitching a cheek muscle at a pace that doesn't lose out to a snail I think it's fair for us to remain skeptical.
  59.
  60. Of course - no one doubts that "Stephen Hawking" _can_ compose sentences using his device but to think he can write *as much as he does* and keep on top of his field is a stretch.
  61.
  62. Doesn't the use of a ghost writer begin to make more sense?
  63.
  64. Even if there is a 10% chance of "Stephen Hawking" using a ghost writer that should make us incredibly *wary* of any "opinions" we hear "Stephen Hawking" giving. For how can we be sure they are his own?
  65.
  66. Ah - for that we must trust _but we should also *verify!*_

  80.
  81. +Koka Fizix __ No one hates "Stephen Hawking". Your remark is not appropriate and comes from ignorance. If someone else is writing opinions and using the reputation of "Stephen Hawking" to give them merit then they are taking advantage of a profoundly disabled man which is abhorrent. If that is the case then you are enabling his abusers by helping to shut down valid skepticism.

  87.
  88. +Koko Fizix __ It was not clear who you were replying to and because my replies were immediately before yours it gave the impression - _however incorrect_ - that you were suggesting I hate "Stephen Hawking". I don't hate "Stephen Hawking". No one does. If there is any "hate" it is reserved for those who could be taking advantage of his reputation and disability to further their own agendas.
