[15:32] <%Somber> Leeches.  It's not like they didn't exist in the wasteland.  It's not even like they didn't, occasionally, get big enough to suck every drop of fluid out of a pony  that tried to swim in the wasteland.  No.  The big difference was that in the wasteland, you generally didn't find so many.  There were dozens, perhaps even hundreds, slipped and sliding and
[15:34] <%Somber> oozing their way out of the mine's settling tanks.  They waved their fangy end in the air, and then slowly crawled towards the others on a layer of slime.  From the broken open door, even larger ones were entering, ones not confined to the size of a pipe.  And every second, the faintest rasping noise of their passage grew louder and louder in the cavernous

[15:38] * Calamine lay in Sona's hooves, weakly scraping at the leeches as them.

[15:41] * Naphtha squeaks in more than a little bit of fear, standing by Sonata's side, she took a deep breath and spouted a gout of flame at the oncoming horde of blood-sucking things. Usually things that live in water didn't like fire much, after all.
[15:42] <%Somber> Indeed, the air was filled with popping and hissing as several of them cooked immediately.  Burning meat filled the air.  However, the ones that fell were consumed by others as the mass moved on.  Still, a dozen leeches was still a dozen leaches.
[15:43] * Sedgewick squats next to Naphtha, prepared to fend of leeches for as long as he was able, to give her as much room as possible to blow fire.
[15:45] * Strifer is still -inside- the machinery trying to fend of leeches best she can, oh what joy tropical islands can bring.
[15:46] <%Somber> The machette chopped through them with every sweep, each one popping and spilling ichor and filling the air with the reek of copper.
[15:48] * Lazer_Blazer swings her machete wildly at the mass of leeches
[15:48] <%Somber> Funny... why is Strifer feeling so light headed?  Oh, yeah.  It was because something on her butt was drinking her blood?  Damnit, the part just wouldn't come free.  There was one corroded lug nut keeping it on!
[15:50] * Strifer shakes her butt furiously, letting out a scream of frustration as she keeps on working inside the machine. Fucking rusted up piece of junk!
[15:54] * Calamine flails wildly, brushing the leeches off and somehow actually crushing on beneath her hoof. "Oh no! I killed it..."
[15:55] * Candlelight_Sonata would normally chastise Calamine, considering that killing the consarned thing is what they were trying to do, but she was too busy flailing with the leach that decided that her face made a nice meal.
[15:58] * Lazer_Blazer turns Calamine mid-swing "I wouldn'
[15:59] * Lazer_Blazer turns Calamine mid-swing "I wouldn't worry to much about that. Their just going to eat us if the get the chance."*
[16:01] * Candlelight_Sonata scrapes the offending leech off her face.  "Grossgrossgrossgross!"
[16:02] * Candlelight_Sonata flips the rifle off her back and targets a leech
[16:04] <%Somber> The bullets miss the squirming masses as the leeches close in.
[16:06] * Sedgewick swipes and swats at the leeches squirming up at him.
[16:11] <%Somber> The mass of leeches seems to undulate like a wave, and suddenly, as one, they surge forward.  The damned things can JUMP!  They lunge at everyone, Naph in particular.  Their fangy maws suck frantically as they try to feed upon their prey to submission.  Several drop from the pipes and roof on to Naph, but Sedgewick blocked them with his wings, then tears into
[16:11] <%Somber> them with his claws even as they tear into him with their toothy maws.
[16:12] * Sedgewick starts to sweat as his skin cools from a sudden loss of blood. "I can't take much more of this."
[16:13] * Sedgewick glances over his shoulder to Naph, his countenance grim. "I can fly, but what about you?"
[16:14] * Calamine screams. "We need to run. They're being propelled by a spirit of gluttony. We cannot fight them," she shouts as she tries to force herself back up and stagger towards the exit.
[16:14] <%Somber> Actually, you were fighting them quite well.  They were just fighting back even better.
[16:15] <%Somber> The leeches swarm with a frenzy, biting and sucking, biting and sucking, trying to bleed every last drop as their rasps filled the air.
[16:15] * Calamine trips over Candlelight_Sonata before stopping to try to help the batpony and Naphtha.
[16:15] * Naphtha looks up to Sedgewick like he was asking her what color hate was. "Ofcourse I can't fly. I'm just a baby dragon!" She squeaks a little bit at the way she raised her voice. Before taking another deep breath and blowing fire on the leeches as best she could again.

[16:19] <%Somber> Once more Naphalena's fire sweeps out in a sheet over the swarm.  The creatures hiss and pop like popcorn.  Maybe they would be good eating after all... protein is protein, right?
[16:20] * Lazer_Blazer swings at the swarm with all the force she can muster "I don't know how much longer we can keep this up." she grunts with a yell
[16:21] * Sedgewick "I can give you a lift then, maybe? You'll have to hold on tight!"
[16:22] <%Somber> The bolt... that fucking bolt!  Someone crafted this bolt just to piss Strifer off!
[16:23] <Strifer> "Arrggh! Cmon yah fucking - !"
[16:26] <%Somber> Lazer's first frantic swing was so hard it snapped the tip right off her weapon as it struck the concrete floor.  Unfortunately, that meant that she was a few inches off her normal machette length.
[16:28] <%Somber> The swarm was an absolutely awful mess.  Still, it did seem like the leeches were thinning out.  There weren't quite so many coming out the settling vats.
[16:29] * Sedgewick "Well, what about it Naph? Wanna go flying?"
[16:30] * Naphtha fidgets, looking towards Sonata, "B-but... Will she be okay..?" THe little dragon was evidently burning out the leeches in an effort to keep them away from the batpony.
[16:30] * Candlelight_Sonata braces herself with her wingtips as she pulls the lever action on her rifle, taking aim at the leeches that were getting too close to Lazer and Callie.
[16:31] * Sedgewick "I'll hover low and carry you in my arms, how's that?
[16:33] <Calamine> 1d10 SA 4
[16:36] * Candlelight_Sonata wracks her rifle hard to dislodge the jammed bullet, cringing at the horrible sounds the mechanisms are making.  "Lazer, you ain't sucked to death yet?  Callie?  You neither?"
[16:36] * Calamine grunts, her eyes becoming less focused before shouting to the roof. "Please. I know you're hungry, but we just want the metal pieces you can't eat. Let us take them and we'll leave you to the bodies of the dead. We are sorry to disturb your meal."
[16:38] <%Somber> It's raining leeches around sedgewick, but he manages to keep them away!
[16:38] * Lazer_Blazer stops to quickly look at the snapped tip of her machete "Oh this is turning out to be a grate day. First I get shot in the head and now this." thin swings some more at the mass of flesh and fangs
[16:43] * Naphtha bit her lower lip and nodded, letting Sedgewick carry her aloft. She took another breath, spewing fire against the oncoming leeches as best she could.
[16:44] * Calamine blinks. "Strifer, hurry! The spirit is giving us a little time to take the parts, but it won't be able to stay its hunger for too long."
[16:44] <%Somber> Fire sprayed down.  It definitely smelled like BBQ, and the leeches seemed to be more clumps now than a massive swarm.
[16:46] * Strifer shouts around the wrench."Tell the Spirit It'll be a while! There's one of those fuckers on my butt and this nut is arrgghhh!" She puts her entire bodyweight against the thing instead.
[16:48] <%Somber> Lazer goes to town on the leeches with her broken machette!  She slices.  She dices!  She makes jullienne leech!
[16:50] <%Somber> Almost!  Almost!  ALLLLMOST!  Then the bolt locks up again...
[16:51] <Strifer> "Fuck this shit! Where is buck when you need it!"
[16:52] * Candlelight_Sonata swings her rifle across her back and attempts to replicate something she saw Strifer do earlier.  She ends up looking like a flailing mass of hooves, batwings, and inexplicably, fluffy ears
[16:56] <%Somber> Is it just strifer or did the bolt just tighten?
[16:58] <%Somber> Witha  flurry of stomps and kicks the leeches go squish, plop, pop, and squee... and then the swarm is broken and the survivors flee back into the vats and the pipes, leaving the floors covered in mashed up sanguivores.
[17:00] * Strifer thinks she still has one on her butt, can't really tell with all the blind rage at this fucking bolt!
[17:00] * Candlelight_Sonata breathes heavily for a moment, then spits out a leech that was stuck to a fang.  "Uh... everypony who ain't dead, sound off please?  Strifer?  Callie?  Lazer?  Naph and Mr. Sedgewick?"
[17:00] * Naphtha blinks in surprise as the leeches flee, breathing a sigh of relief. "I'm here!" She waves a clawed hand to Candlelight_Sonata, hopeful the batpony was alright.
[17:01] * Sedgewick lands and sets Naphtha down gently. "We're okay. I'm okay. I think."
[17:01] * Strifer throws herself at the wrench once more, this time it was personal! "AAARRRGGHHH!"
[17:01] <%Somber> The bolt defied- snap.  Off it came.  She could now remove the compressor assembly.
[17:02] * Strifer does a victory scream. "Yeaaaaaaah!" Poses ontop of the darn machinery, breath heaving.
[17:03] * Lazer_Blazer sighs as the mass of leeches wilt off into to pips and shadows "Looks like we mad it. Now lets get out of here as fast as we can. Befor they come back."
[17:03] * Naphtha rushes over to Sonata, throwing her arms around the batpony's neck in a hug. "Are you alright? Did they hurt you? I tried to keep them away, but there were so many, even breathing fire was hard to keep them off..." SHe sounded downtrodden at that, hugging Sonata tightly.
[17:03] <%Somber> And the room spins around Strifer...
[17:03] * Strifer stumbles facefirst into the compressor.
[17:05] * Strifer starts hauling the damn thing out of the interior of the machine.
[17:05] * Candlelight_Sonata hugs Naphtha tightly.  "I'm alright.  I'm more worried about you!  You did a good job, sweetheart.  You and Mr. Sedgewick."  She says, smiling gratefully at the griffon.  She lays an ear back at the sound of Strifer slamming into the compressor.  "Lazer, I 100% agree.  But uh... can you make sure Strifer is ok?"
[17:05] * Calamine sighs. "We need to run. Get back into the jungle and let the spirit feed!" Calamine shouts while helping Strifer with the parts.
[17:06] * Candlelight_Sonata kneels down so Naphtha can get on her back.  "Then let's get to it.  Got the majigger, Strifer?"
[17:06] * Naphtha clings tightly to Sonata, her eyes closed and crying just a little bit, her claws shaking against the batpony. It was evident that life-threatening situations weren't comfortable for the little dragon. least of all having friends in that sort of situation.
[17:07] * Naphtha carefully climbs up onto Sonata's back.
[17:07] * Strifer just keeps on hauling it out once its free from the machine. No need to answer.
[17:07] * Lazer_Blazer shrugs and just lifts Strifer and the compressor with her TK "We need to go now."
[17:08] * Strifer blink blinks, flails. "Fine, FINE! You carry it then! Lemme down!"
[17:08] * Sedgewick blinks. "Um. 'Sedgewick' is actually my first name. My flight name is 'Stonetalon'. But thank you. And besides, I couldn't let her get lunched on by leeches!"
[17:08] * Candlelight_Sonata folds a wing awkwardly around Naphtha.  "Sorry to scare you, Naph.  We're all safe.  We'll all make it back just fine."  She says, wiping a tear from Naphtha's face with the thumb on her wing.  "You did good, honey."
[17:09] * Calamine shudders. "It's hunger. We need to run, now!"
[17:09] * Candlelight_Sonata doesn't need much convincing.  "Everyone out.  Now!"
[17:09] * Lazer_Blazer just heads for the exit as fast as she can "Like I said lets go."
[17:10] * Naphtha sniffles a little sadly and mumbles a 'thanks' which was barely audible.
[17:10] * Calamine rushes out with the rest of the group.
[17:11] <%Somber> As everyone flees, a sensation washes over them as if they hadn't eaten in a day.  Something looms out of the largest vat.  Something immense, black, and very... eternally... hungry.  Fortunately, no one would be stupid enough to poke their head in and take a closer look... right?  Right?
[17:12] * Candlelight_Sonata looks over the party as they flee, noting injuries and... "Uh... Strifer?  Hold up.  Something... I think there's something on your butt."
[17:13] * Strifer looks over her shoulder, spins around. "Huh? Wha' Where?"
[17:13] * Lazer_Blazer flots her over to Candi for a better look
[17:13] * Naphtha groans a little bit and shifts on Sonata's back, her stomach rumbling just a bit.
[17:14] <%Somber> A big, fat, jiggling leech pulls it's mouth off of Strifer and gives a little burp.
[17:14] * Candlelight_Sonata points a hoof to the small, wriggling mass on Strifer's plot.  "Can you TK that off?"  she asks Lazer.  "Or..."  she swallows.  "Do I have to get it?"
[17:15] * Lazer_Blazer gives Strifer a shake to see if it will fall off
[17:15] * Strifer is shaken as she flails. "Ahhh! Getitoffgetitoffgetitoff!"
[17:15] * Calamine looks around. "We need to either flee into the jungle or hide in those offices. We're not in any condition right now."
[17:16] <%Somber> The leech wiggles itself up under Strifer's barding, the slimy mass slithering about.
[17:17] * Candlelight_Sonata widens her eyes as the leach disappears.  "Oh gorramit.  Strifer... Hold still."
[17:17] * Sedgewick steps forward. "Wait, let me handle it."
[17:17] * Sedgewick crouches down and holds up a talon. "It's just like fishing..."
[17:17] <%Somber> It pokes it's... head... out and gives a little burbling squeel of fear.
[17:17] * Lazer_Blazer sets down as she tries to grab it with her TK "Come back here you varmint
[17:18] * Strifer freezes up completely, shudders. "It's.. Moving.."
[17:18] <%Somber> "Ma ma..."
[17:18] * Candlelight_Sonata blinks.  "Uh..."  She looks back toward the factory, wanting to make sure nothing is coming out after them.
[17:18] * Sedgewick snatches at the protruding part of the leech and yanks, hard.
[17:19] * Lazer_Blazer just sighs "So now thing get bad."
[17:19] <Lazer_Blazer> things*
[17:19] <%Somber> "SKREE-POP!"  The leech bursts like a black waterballoon full of red paint.
[17:20] * Naphtha squeaks at the sudden popping sound, shocked out of her exhaustion just a little bit. "What? WHo?" She looks around expecting to be shot at or something.
[17:20] * Candlelight_Sonata hops about slightly on her hooves at the sight.  "Grossgrossgrossgrossgross!"
[17:20] * Sedgewick grimaces. "I think we need to get out of here /now./ You can wash off later!"
[17:20] * Strifer squirms around. "It's.. Everywhere!"
[17:21] * Candlelight_Sonata nods in agreement.  "Jungle?"
[17:21] * Lazer_Blazer nods "Yes not here." as she makes for the exit
[17:22] * Calamine glazes over for a moment before saying. "It's a never ending hunger. It fed on the bodies and still wants more. It's not safe to stay here."
[17:22] <%Somber> They were able to get into the jungle safely, but it was late.  Would they try and make camp, or risk travelling in the dark.
[17:22] <%Somber> ?
[17:23] * Sedgewick takes a moment to listen to the spirits of the jungle, to feel their mood.
[17:23] * Strifer sure as heck aint traveling anywhere before she gets something to much on, she sits down on the spot and does so! Let's see whats on the menu, ah, 200 year old food. Delicious.
[17:24] * Sedgewick grimaces. "It's bad either way. The hunters all come out at night. It's probably safe to get back to town as quickly as we can."
[17:25] * Naphtha slowly relaxes as she realizes she's not under attack, leaning against Sonata with a yawns. "Mmmh. Need some sleep soon." She was only a little dragon, slowly closing her eyes and doing her best to relax.
[17:25] * Lazer_Blazer takes a swig from a canteen "Well we can't make it trough the jungle at night. So camp?" she asks the rest
[17:26] * Strifer points at Lazer_Blazer with a hoof. "I vote for camping!"
[17:26] * Sedgewick is totally serious. "That's a bad idea. The jungle is dangerous during the day. You really wanna stay here all night and be some hunting critter's dinner?"
[17:27] * Sedgewick "I mean, I guess if we found someplace with a solid door or only one doorway or something we might be able to camp out safely. But it's going to be dangerous either way."
[17:28] * Strifer smirks, then looks around. "Heeey, didn't, ugh, whatserface say we could use that old base as.. a base? Aint that closeby or somethin'?"
[17:29] * Candlelight_Sonata raises a hoof. "Um, not to put too fine a point on it, but we might be able to travel at night as well.  I know we're all tired, and hungry.  But... My people are kind of bred to navigate at night."
[17:29] * Lazer_Blazer rubs at the rapped head wound of hers then looks over all the small bites that are on all the rest "Well if you think we can make it Sedgewick I'm all for it. But we look like we've been chewed up and spit out."
[17:30] <Strifer> "Especially my butt."
[17:30] * Sedgewick disappears into the brush for a few minutes, then comes back. "I found a spot that looks like it's been camped in before. Three sides, overhead cover, and enough space for all of us."
[17:30] * Candlelight_Sonata nods quietly in agreement with Lazer.  She fishes a dried piece of jerky out of her saddlebags and holds it in her wing-thumb for Naphtha.
[17:31] <%Somber> Indeed.  Sedgewick had found a prime camping spot.  About as safe as they were going to get in the jungle.  It was under a tree that had fallen against the side of a cliff, making a natural shield from the rain that started to fall.  Fire pit.  Enough space for twelve ponies.
[17:32] * Lazer_Blazer blinks at her canteen then takes a longer draw
[17:32] <%Somber> Even mushrooms growing along the underside of the log.
[17:32] * Sedgewick points. "There's even some fresh water."
[17:34] * Naphtha reaches out to take the jerkey and sniffs it briefly, before eating it without much of a second thought. She makes a little bit of an unhappy face. "Egh. Meat always tastes so... Meaty." She slumped against Sonata a little more.
[17:34] * Candlelight_Sonata gives Naphtha a sad look.  "Best I got at the moment, darlin'.  Less somepony else has something that's more gem-like."
[17:36] * Calamine is spending her time finding and preparing herbs.
[17:36] * Strifer had already eaten since as they where pondering what to do, so she just takes a quick stroll around the camp before laying down next to the firepit. Then she blinks, gets up again and starts gathering some firewood.
[17:37] * Candlelight_Sonata passes Naphtha her canteen while she paws at the ground, trying to make a soft bed for the sleepy baby dragon.
[17:40] * Strifer returns and plops down the twigs and sticks into the firepit. Digging into her saddlebags she grumbles.
[17:40] <Strifer> "Meh, aint got nothing to light it with."
[17:40] * Lazer_Blazer drinks longer from the canteen "Ahhh... that helps some. Now lets see if we can get a fire going." as she just aims her rifle at it and fires at it till it catches light
[17:41] <%Somber> Indeed, there was a crackling fire and Calamine could make a hearty stew with the mushrooms growing on the underside of the log.

[17:43] * Calamine takes a good busshel of mushrooms, takes out her gear, and begins cooking up a mushroom stew.
[17:44] * Sedgewick sniffs. "Mmm, that smells good. Mushrooms are almost as good as meat, if the hunting is poor. Never tried making stew before though. Always roasted 'em."
[17:45] * Strifer goes to fill her canteen as she waits for the stew to boil.
[17:46] * Sedgewick points out the fresh water for Strifer. "See that? Some of the plants here in the jungle grow into shallow bowl-shapes, and capture rainwater. It's guaranteed pure, aside from the occasional tree frog."
[17:47] <Strifer> "..right."
[17:47] * Candlelight_Sonata kneels to let  Naphtha down.  "Would mushroom stew be alright?  Or do you want me to try to find something else?"  She asks the baby dragon.
[17:47] * Lazer_Blazer eats her share of the mushroom stew licking her lips "This is pretty good Calamine, thanks."
[17:48] * Calamine smiled up at Sedgewick. "It's the best I can do right now. I'm trying to mimic my grandmother's recipe, but I am missing a few ingredients. I hope it's good.
[17:49] <%Somber> IT was actually quite tasty!  Tasty enough that these mushrooms must be worth something if you take the rest of them.
[17:50] * Candlelight_Sonata accepts a portion of soup for herself and for Naphtha.  She tries to sereptitiously add a bit of dried meat to her bowl.
[17:51] * Naphtha carefully climbs off Sonata, yawning a little bit and slowly settling into the area of the dirt. She sips the soup a little bit and then eats the rest of it rather quickly, letting off a little burp. "It's okay... Not like gemstones are easy to get in the wasteland anyway." She yawns and leans against Sonata.
[17:51] * Calamine sighs. "That's really good. I think if I take the rest, we can get some buttons for them," she says, getting up to go pick the mushrooms.
[17:51] * Strifer eats whatever she is served, she's pretty easy like that.
[17:53] <%Somber> Well fed, the events at the mine weren't so bad.  They were fed and scored at least one of the three items on the list.  could be worse, right?  Oddly, when night fell, the jungle was silent.  Very very silent.  Dead silent.  No roars.  No howls.  No cries.  Nothing.  Only the fire made any noise at all.
[17:53] * Candlelight_Sonata finishes her soup and smiles, glad that no one commented on her dietary choices.  "You are quite the cook, Callie.  Thank you."
[17:53] * Sedgewick happily accepts a portion of the stew.
[17:53] * Candlelight_Sonata perks an ear up and looks to Sedgewick.  "Mr. Stonetalon, it seem a might quiet to you?"
[17:53] * Strifer is walking around the camp, unable to sit still for very long, she gives the compressor they had gathered a small kick. "You better be fucking worth it." She grumbles and keeps walking about.
[17:54] * Sedgewick nods. "That's bad. If all the smaller things went quiet, it means something larger is on the hunt. Prey always gets quiet when predator is around."
[17:55] * Candlelight_Sonata lays her ears back.  "Ancestors... was afriad you'd say that..."
[17:55] * Strifer snorts. "I guess they know we're the biggest predator around."
[17:56] * Lazer_Blazer looks at the little dragon "I guess you never cracked open spent gem pack, or looted a burnt out termnal, or just bust open any bot you run across. Gem a plenty if you know where to look."
[17:58] * Naphtha yawns quietly. But doesn't seem to hear Lazer Blazer.
[18:00] * Candlelight_Sonata trots slowly to the entrance, looking to be on edge.  To those watching her, her purple eye start glowing green to match her green eye, and she begins chanting softly.  "Gar tuk river.... gar tuk regged..."
[18:02] * Strifer gives Candlelight_Sonata a confused look. "Uh.. Fluffyears? You high or somethin'? Cause if so, you gotta share mah mare."
[18:03] * Calamine looks around.
[18:03] * Lazer_Blazer just blinks at the bat pony mare
[18:04] <%Somber> The shadows around Sonata begin to wiggle and wave.  The seem to contort and twist as if she's trying to pull them into a shape.  They form two globs that start to quiver and shake... Sonata strains and struggles and them.... POOOFFFFGGHSSHH!!  The two explode in her face like blobs of tar.  She's thrown back like a snot rocket, hits the underside of the log,
[18:05] <%Somber> and then bobs there like a pinata by the goopy black mess.
[18:05] * Strifer takes many steps back from the explosions. "Woah, what the fuck!"
[18:05] * Candlelight_Sonata looks dejectedly at herself as she hangs there.  "A little help, please?"  She asks quietly.
[18:06] * Lazer_Blazer gets up and helps Candi down "Ok next time you try and do some shadow magic let us know ok."
[18:06] <%Somber> The tarry goop didn't cut, it just stretched and bobbed.  Sonata was totally helpless.
[18:07] * Sedgewick tries sawing through it with a talon.
[18:07] * Strifer points where Candle had done her magic. "The fuck was that even! Your eyes glowed and shit, glowed!"
[18:07] <%Somber> It does not saw.  It just jiggles.
[18:08] * Sedgewick shrugs. "Sorry I can't help."
[18:08] * Lazer_Blazer sighs "Ok every one close your eyes or what I'm goint to try may just blind you."

[18:10] * Strifer holds up a hoof and was about to say something, then changes her mind, trots over to the compressor and takes cover behind it, closing her eyes. "Okay, I'm ready!"
[18:10] * Candlelight_Sonata sighs and closes her eyes.  "I'm ready, Lazer."
[18:11] * Naphtha remains apparently asleep, curled up in the dirt near the fire.
[18:11] * Sedgewick raises a wing and shields his face.
[18:11] * Lazer_Blazer her horn starts to light but just brighter and brighter to the point that even with their eyes closed its was still bright enuff to make them turn away

[18:12] * Candlelight_Sonata squeaks quietly as the bright light envelopes her
[18:13] * Strifer sticks her head in the ground. Magic is fucking wierd.
[18:16] * Calamine turns as her tail is pulled by something and gives out a yelp.
[18:16] * Candlelight_Sonata squeaks as her mane is pulled.  "Not funny, Strifer."
[18:17] * Sedgewick mumbles. "Hey, if you want one, ask nicely next time."
[18:17] <%Somber> When the light show ends, the goop is gone and Sonata is back on the ground.
[18:17] * Strifer flicks her tail, telling ya, magic is wierd!
[18:18] * Lazer_Blazer her spell finishes as she fell some thing pull on her tail "What the buck!?" as she turns
[18:18] * Naphtha groans a little at the sudden light, clenching her eyes tighter as she rolled over away from the light.
[18:19] * Candlelight_Sonata sighs and shakes her head, curling up around Naphtha.  She looks very unhappy with herself.
[18:20] * Strifer still has her head in the ground. "Ya done yet or what?!"
[18:21] * Sedgewick "Okay. I'
[18:21] * Sedgewick "Okay, I'll take first watch."
[18:21] * Lazer_Blazer looks fror what ever pulled on her tail "Yes it over Strifer. Did any one else get their tail pulled on?"
[18:21] * Candlelight_Sonata looks up at Sedgewick.  "I'll take the watch in the middle of the night.  I promise to... not do taht again..."  she says, trailing off
[18:23] <%Somber> Sedge's watch is uneventful.  Still, definitely something was amiss.
[18:25] * Candlelight_Sonata takes over watch for Sedgewick, twitching her ears nervously the whole time.  She glares at the shadows.  Stupid shadows.
[18:26] * Strifer mumbles and fidgets in her sleep...
[18:27] <%Somber> Sonata's too
[18:28] * Candlelight_Sonata gently rouses Lazer Blazer for her watch.  "Um... thanks for getting me down, by the way..."  she says sheepishly.  "Keep an eye out.  Something ain't right..."
[18:29] <%Somber> Indeed.  But nothing happens for Lazer's watch.  Nothing at all...
[18:30] * Lazer_Blazer pokes at the fire all the rest of the night
[18:30] * Sedgewick dreams suspiciously of nothing at all.
[18:31] * Candlelight_Sonata tries to get some sleep, occasionally twitching awake and looking out in the direction fo the jungle
[18:31] <%Somber> Morning arrives uneventually... but there is one thing amiss.  Hanging from the tree, right behind Lazer, was a bone dangling from a strand of spider's silk.  It had a mouse's skull tied to the top, and on the bone was one of sedgewick's feathers tied with a number of hairs... hairs that appeared to belong to a number of ponies and one zebra.
[18:34] * Candlelight_Sonata manages to look pale at the sight.  "Uh... Callie... is that what I think it is?"
[18:35] * Naphtha yawned quietly and rolled over, very slowly starting to wake up with a mumble of confusion about where the soft warm thing had gone.
[18:35] * Sedgewick stares at the fetish. "I think it's a warning."
[18:35] * Lazer_Blazer just looks at Candi "Whats what?"
[18:36] * Calamine wakes up and her eyes go wide. "No... That..."
[18:37] * Strifer yawnstretchgroans. Gives herself a vigorous shake.
[18:37] * Candlelight_Sonata points to the fetish.  "Well, it has hair from all of us in it.  What little bit I know about that sort of shennanigans means bad things."  She says, indicating toward the freaked out looking zebra.
[18:37] * Lazer_Blazer blinks and looks at what ever it is that their all lookking at over her head "Well buck till may and call me a broodmare."

[18:39] * Calamine shivers. "It's a warning. A local shaman is calling us out. They think we've done something wrong."
[18:40] * Calamine looks terrified as she realizes something else. "The shaman has our hair. They can make fetishes and voodoo dolls against us."
[18:40] * Sedgewick "What did we do wrong?"
[18:41] * Candlelight_Sonata nudges Strifer.  "You uh, may want to pay attention to this..."  she says quietly.
[18:41] * Naphtha yawns and slowly sits up, looking up at the weird thing dangling from the tree. She squeaks in some surprise and goes wide-eyed at the weird bone-and-hair-thing.
[18:41] * Strifer yawns cause Naph yawned. "Oh, yeah, sure.."
[18:44] * Calamine looks over the warning and swallows hard. "It's a warning against greed. We're being warned to never go back to that place."
[18:45] <Strifer> "What, cause we took this piece of junk? She taps a hoof against the compressor."
[18:45] * Candlelight_Sonata sits down and thinks a moment.  "There a way we can leave something in thanks for their warning?  Or would that be in bad taste?"
[18:45] * Lazer_Blazer sighs and looks at her hoofs "Welp now how are we to get the parts?"
[18:45] * Sedgewick "Yeah, don't we need more stuff from there?"
[18:46] * Calamine hums slightly. "This doesn't make sense. What would a shaman be so mad about us entering this place?"
[18:46] * Naphtha fidgets nervously and bites her lower lip. "Um.... I don't... I don't think we were going back there anyway. Were we? Maybe we could find the parts somewhere else..?"
[18:48] * Sedgewick "It was all more or less in this part of the island. Maybe we should look in other buildings?"
[18:48] * Candlelight_Sonata frowns.  "Maybe cause there's something more powerful there than we realised, Callie?  Didn't you say 'his hunger is eternal?'"
[18:50] * Calamine nods. "Maybe. That hunger spirit was possessing those leeches. It's not normal."
[18:51] * Candlelight_Sonata pales.  "See... when you start saying 'not normal' in reference to spirits, I get a might concerned.  A bit worrysome, I think.  And did anypony else feel just the slightist like they could eat a buffet after we left?"
[18:52] * Calamine shook her head. "No, but that might be because you all lost more blood than I did."
[18:52] * Lazer_Blazer starts to put out the fire with some dirt "Well, one way or another we need to get parts."
[18:53] * Strifer nods slightly.
[18:53] * Calamine shakes her head fervently. "We shouldn't anger this shaman. He or she took our hair without us knowing during that flash."
[18:53] * Naphtha raises a clawed hand. "Um. I did... But I think that's normal. I mean, I usually am sortof hungry at that time of day..." She mumbles quietly and slowly stands up, moving up to look at the weird hanging thing. "Um... Didn't we fight a giant spider before? And this is hung up with spider silk, too..."

[18:56] * Candlelight_Sonata looks at Naphtha.  "A giant spider?"
[18:59] * Naphtha fidgets. "um. I think so..?" She looked down a little bit. "I-I mean... I think? Maybe I dreamed it..." She sighed quietly and wasn't really sure now. "B-but it doesn't have one of my scales on it. Just hair from all of you. S-so maybe the one who made it isn't angry with me..?"
[19:00] * Candlelight_Sonata hugs Naphtha tight.  "Well that's good for a start.  Cause then they'd have to deal with me being angry with them."
[19:01] * Lazer_Blazer looks at the fetish "Maybe they couldn't pull one off you."
[19:02] * Candlelight_Sonata stops a moment.  "Maybe, but of all of us, Naphtha and I would be the easiest to get at.  Naphtha because she sleeps like a rock.  Me cause..."  she trails off and looks embarrassed again
[19:03] * Strifer frowns. "The hell did we do then, that Smallstuff here didnt do? Maybe it just like's dragons, who knows."
[19:03] * Naphtha bit her lower lip. "But... They got hair off everyone else. Just a little bit. Something small that wouldn't be missed, but could be important..?" She wasn't sounding very sure of herself, leaning against Sonata a little.
[19:04] * Calamine shakes her head. "I think it's just a warning. If there were blood, then we'd be in trouble. I think this shaman considers Naphta innocent in all this."
[19:06] * Strifer eyerolls "Let's just leave, ye? Hand in this piece of junk and see whatelse we can do later."
[19:08] * Candlelight_Sonata ponders this a moment.  "But... she burned them.  We all tried to get the leeches off of each other.  So far as I know, the only one of us who didn't kill a leech is Strifer!"  She exclaims.  "Which, is kinda weird, to be honest."
[19:09] * Sedgewick cocks his head at it. "It's got my feather tied to it by you guys's hairs... maybe it means I should be tied up?"
[19:09] * Sedgewick seems genuinely confused by this notion.
[19:09] * Calamine shakes her head. "I don't think it was about the spirit or the leeches. It seems to be about what we took. Which is weird, since a shaman wouldn't care about technology."
[19:10] * Candlelight_Sonata stops short.
[19:10] * Naphtha fidgets nervously as she thinks about it. "I don't... I don't thin it was the leeches. I think it was something else." She contemplated that. "B-but I don't know what..." She didn't know anything about spiritualism or shamans or any of that weird stuff. So it's not like it was easy to guess what might be important or not.
[19:10] * Candlelight_Sonata looks at Calamine.  "Something we took."  she facehooves.  "The stuff we took from the bodies."  She says, fishing the .357 out of her bag.
[19:11] * Candlelight_Sonata turns to Naphtha.  "Keep talking, Naphtha.  I want to see if you're thinking what I am."
[19:11] * Calamine looks at the gun. "Maybe... We can't do anything about it now."
[19:12] * Sedgewick tosses the little baggy of bone buttons on the pile. "These too."
[19:13] * Naphtha scratches her head thoughtfully. "Um. I don't think it was anything in the facility. But maybe..? I mean, if it was the facility, someone else would have to know what we did there. And given the way the leeches seemed to be feeding on everyone, that seems unlikely. Right? I mean, the note even talked about how the others were vanishing one by one!" She bit her lip and
[19:13] * Naphtha fidgeted again. "S-so something someone took before we went to the facility. Maybe? Something taken from the jungle..?" She hadn't really been paying close attention so she wasn't sure.
[19:15] * Candlelight_Sonata pales.  "If my theory is right... then the reason why Naphtha isn't complicit in this is because the only thing we took that I gave her was the meat stick.  And that was because she was hungry, and I wanted to make sure she was ok.  It's hard to blame a child for their... hunger..."  she frowns.  "There's that hunger again..."
[19:16] * Sedgewick "Wait, you mean food? Maybe the mushrooms?"
[19:16] * Strifer frowns then smirks. "Gimme a day and he can get those back no problem. Heh."

[19:23] * Calamine blinks. "No, it shouldn't be the mushrooms either. It makes no sense."
[19:23] * Candlelight_Sonata shakes her head. "Not the mushroom, Sedgewick.  There was some jerky left over in the packs of one of the griffons..."
[19:23] * Naphtha just sortof fidgets a little bit, thinking about things. "Um... But I don't know what they would be unhappy about. The only thing we took from that place was the thing that we were sent after, and the stuff off the dead ponies, right? S-so there shouldn't be a problem, should there?" She looked up to Sonata hopeful for reassurance.
[19:23] * Sedgewick "...What kind of jerky?"
[19:24] * Calamine gets sudden realization. "Wait. It is the mushrooms."
[19:24] <Calamine> "I said we could make some buttons with these mushrooms. I meant them for medical supplies, but the shaman wouldn't have known that. He thinks I'm trying to profit off of nature's bounty."
[19:25] * Strifer ([email protected]) Quit ( Quit: Man who run behind car get exhausted )
[19:26] * Candlelight_Sonata bows her head and looks down. "Some kind of meat, sedgewick. I think it was some kind of radhog, by the taste of it."  She replies, laying her ears back and looking ashamed.
[19:27] * Sedgewick cocks his head. "Oh. I suppose you're right, Calamine. I guess that could be it."
[19:27] * Calamine takes the extra mushrooms and pulls out her pot again. Quickly, she gets to work cooking up another helping of stew for breakfast. "I understand your worries. I'm sorry. We will eat them for breakfast to show we are not profiting off them."
[19:28] * Lazer_Blazer lifts up the part that they came out here for "Well lets start heading back to town."
[19:29] * Naphtha stays near to Sonata, looking up at her curiously. "Um... I don't think it's a bad thing. They're not going to eat it, right..? And it's better than starving."
[19:30] <%Somber> There's a shimmer and a stick appears out of the air, hitting Calamine on the head.  The stick reappears and someone says nearby something in zebra.
[19:30] * Naphtha squeaks at the sound of something hitting someone and looks around in a touch of panic.
[19:30] * Calamine shakes her head. "Ow. Wait. How did you do that?"
[19:31] <Lazer_Blazer> "Who did what?"
[19:31] * Calamine blinks. "Would you like to join us. My friends say that it's good."
[19:32] * Candlelight_Sonata looks away from Naphtha.  "I just... we don't like to talk about.  Bat ponies... night children, whatever you want to call us, Naphtha."
[19:32] * Sedgewick is very, very confused.
[19:32] * Naphtha swallows nervously. "M-maybe they don't like you eating it..?" She was confused as well, then looks up to Sonata. "What..?" SHe tilts her head to one side in confusion.
[19:32] <%Somber> "Hrmph." the air splits and a zebra wearing a large wooden mask appears.  He's exceptionally boney, his stripes faded to pale gray.  A scowling mask bedecked with feathers and bones rattles as he shakes his staff at Calamine and says something in very cross language.
[19:35] * Calamine smiles nervously and gives an impassioned and sorry plea in zebra.
[19:36] * Lazer_Blazer just stands there blinking at all this
[19:36] * Sedgewick favors both Calamine and the newcomer alternating with a very, /very/ confused look.
[19:36] * Candlelight_Sonata slowly and carefully puts herself between Naphtha and the old zebra.
[19:36] <%Somber> "Hrmph."  He takes the mushrooms before she can stew them and returns them to the tree.  He ate a few, then put the rest out.  Immediately some smaller critters rushed out and began nibbling on them too.
[19:37] * Naphtha squeaks in surprise as the thing suddenly appears, peering between Sonata's legs at the new arrival curiously. But she didn't approach.
[19:38] * Candlelight_Sonata decides that bowing low in deference might be a good idea.
[19:40] * Calamine watches the old shaman in deference and awe at his affinity with nature, especially in a jungle so savage.
[19:40] <%Somber> He jabbed his staff at Calamine repeatedly.
[19:41] <%Somber> Apparently he was very not happy with her.
[19:41] * Sedgewick covers his face with a wing so that Calamine can't see the grin on it.
[19:44] * Naphtha bites her lower lip nervously and does her best to hide from the weird zebra.
[19:45] * Calamine closes her eyes, taking the verbal berating, before taking out the pineapples from home
[19:47] * Candlelight_Sonata looks in confusion at the pineapples, having never seen one before.
[19:49] * Naphtha peers up over Sonata a little bit, curious as to what was going on.
[19:49] * Lazer_Blazer step forward to the old zebra "I sorry if we did some thing to upset you. But it was something small and foolish of us. And we didn't know."
[19:49] <%Somber> He knocked the fruit out of his hooves, then gestured to the rest of them, and then gave a harumph.
[19:50] * Calamine shakes her head. "It is my fault."
[19:50] <%Somber> He swept his staff and then was just... gone.  Not like a shimmer cloak.  Just disappeared...
[19:51] * Candlelight_Sonata looks confused.  "How is it your fault, Callie?"
[19:52] * Calamine looks ashamed. "I took all the mushrooms. I was greedy. I failed as a shaman."
[19:53] * Sedgewick "So? What's done is done. Think about what you're doing, and do better next time."
[19:54] * Candlelight_Sonata puts a hoof on Callie's shoulder.  "Right.  The elder told you what you did wrong, and next time, I guess we'll all be a touch more respectful of the world around us.  Probably ain't a bad lesson to learn."
[19:55] * Naphtha fidgets nervously, looking up at the weird symbol thing again. Then back to the others.
[19:55] * Calamine nods, but still looks sad. "I've been a failure as a shaman since coming here. The spirits give me mixed messages and I could barely speak with the hunger spirit. I'm a failure."
[19:56] * Candlelight_Sonata sighs.  "Darlin', you ain't a failure.  YOu got them to talk to ya, and have done an excellent job at keeping the spirtual side of things safe for us, so far as I can tell.  Hell..."  She says, gesturing to the top of the treestump.  "I can't even manage a little shadow magic."
[19:56] * Sedgewick shakes his head. "So keep at it. Give thanks to the jungle for the meal. Don't take more than we need. Keep talking to spirits. Do better next time."
[20:00] * Candlelight_Sonata looks at the group.  "So do we go back?  We've rested.  We've eaten.  Maybe there's a way to appease the hunger spirit so he'll let us pass?"
[20:00] * Sedgewick stiffens his neck, suddenly looking straight out into the jungle. Then he grins slightly and bows his head. "Thank you." He turns his attention back to the group. "Right. We've still got to get some more junk, right?"
[20:01] * Lazer_Blazer starts to get alittle mad at all this and lights up her horn, making her voice almost luna loud "WHAT, SO SHE MESSED UP. WHERE WE COME FROM IS A HELLHOLE. THIS WHOLE ISLAND IS A PARADISE. THERES SO MUCH LIFE HERE." she yells out to the old zebra knowing the whole island heard her
[20:02] * Candlelight_Sonata falls over, clutching her hears.  She squeaks incoherently for a few moments.
[20:02] <Candlelight_Sonata> ears*
[20:03] * Sedgewick is shy only 15 HP from full now!
[20:03] * Naphtha yelps! Covering her earfins with her hands. Blinking in surprise. She whimpers a little bit. "D-do we have to go back..? I'll... I'll do what I can to help..."
[20:03] * Candlelight_Sonata whimpers slightly at Lazer_Blazer.  "Can we watch the volume?  Some of us hear fine enough..."
[20:04] * Sedgewick winces. "Maybe a little less fine than a few seconds ago, now."
[20:04] * Calamine looks up at Lazer_Blazer, wide eyed. "Please don't anger him or the spirits here, Lazer_Blazer. And I don't think we can appease the hunger spirit. The shaman couldn't even do it."
[20:05] * Lazer_Blazer sighs as she lets the spell end "Sorry about that. Just he could have... Never mind."
[20:05] <Calamine> "Going back would be a death sentence for all of us. It's too powerful."
[20:05] * Sedgewick "We got away last time. Why can't we do it again?"
[20:06] <%Somber> When Lazer speaks, there is suddenly a clamor of birds screaching, echoing almost as loudly as it did the first time.  Hard to tell where the birds are tho.
[20:08] * Lazer_Blazer looks to the rest "We can always look through the other buildings. They may be some in them?"
[20:08] * Candlelight_Sonata squeaks.  "Uh... didn't Constanza say there were harpies out here...?"
[20:08] <%Somber> Lazer speaks again and there's an echoing crash of something falling in the jungle near by
[20:09] * Calamine feels sick. "Oh no."
[20:09] * Sedgewick hisses, "Lazer would you please /shut up!?/"
[20:11] * Candlelight_Sonata gets to her hooves and braces herself with her wings, flipping her rifle off her back.
[20:11] * Sedgewick glances around again, searching for... well, anything amiss, really.
[20:13] * Calamine eeps. "Oh no. The shaman has our hair. He... I think he put a curse on Lazer_Blazer.
[20:13] * Lazer_Blazer softly whispers "Well he can just go and buck himself."
[20:14] * Candlelight_Sonata sighs and tries to sneak out from under the tree to see what fell
[20:14] <%Somber> :OOOHAHAHAHAHAHAHHHH!" screams a monkey noise from somewhere directly above Lazer.
[20:15] * Sedgewick steps away from Lazer_Blazer.
[20:17] * Candlelight_Sonata continues to creep out from under the log, daring to look up at the 'roof' of where they'd stayed the night
