  1. >You were sitting with your marefriend Twilight at Sugarcube Corner
  2. >Pinkie Pie wanted to get all of you together for some reason
  3. >You guessed that she had another recipe that she wanted to try out
  4. >At least that's what it was for the last three times you've been over here
  5. >Not that you're complaining, she made excellent cupcakes and they were free whenever she tested a new formula out
  6. >She got feedback and you got free cupcakes
  7. >Win-win
  8.
  9. >Just as you finish your thought Pinkie Pie comes bouncing in from the kitchen, holding a tray of golden muffins in her mouth
  10. >“Alright everypony, I just whipped up a batch of muffins! But these aren't like any muffins I've made before.” The bouncy pink mare shakes her head excitedly. “These muffins have a super duper secret ingredient that only Gummy and I know about, and neither of us are talking. Right Gummy?”
  11. >The green alligator stares forward blankly and wags his tail
  12. >You and Twilight share a chuckle at the party mares antics
  13. >“Well, dig in!” Pinkie proclaims. “And tell me what you think.” She fishes out a notepad and pencil from her mane and begins to write something down
  14. >Shrugging, you reach over the table and pick up a muffin as the rest of the girls follow suit
  15. >You take a bite and are immediately welcomed with a variety of flavors, one sticking out the most
  16. >Peanuts
  17. >As you continue to chew a thought pops into your head
  18. >You, Rainbow, and Pinkie all have something in common
  19. >All of you enjoy a good prank
  20. >Whether it's a hole in the top of a glass or flipping all of Twilight's books upside down (she wasn't a big fan of that one)
  21. >All of you love to get together and cause a little bit of mischief
  22. >Because of your nature, you decided that it would be funny to mess around with the rest of the girls regarding the muffins
  23. >Particularly their special ingredient
  24.
  25. >You swallow deeply, exhaling as you set the muffin back down on the tray
  26. >Pushing your chair out just a little you begin to go into a small coughing fit
  27. >“You alright Anon?” Twilight asks concerned as she starts to pat your back a little, hoping to help your sudden cough
  28. >“What? Some go down the wrong way or something?” Rainbow asks, half of a muffin still in her mouth
  29. You pull your shirt collar away from your neck a little, “Are there peanuts in here Pinkie Pie?” You ask, almost out of breath from your fake coughing spasm
  30. >The pink mare frowns, “Aw, Nonny how did you guess? Did Gummy tell you?”
  31. >Pinkie turns to the baby alligator who hasn't moved, “You Pinkie Promised!”
  32. >You place your hands on your knees as you lean forward, Twilight's face beginning to show more worry by the second
  33. “I'm allergic to peanuts.” You manage to pant out as you collapse to the floor
  34.
  35. >Twilight screams in horror, thinking that you just ingested something that's equivalent to poison for you
  36. >The rest of the girls rush over to your side, except for Pinkie who has her hooves over her mouth
  37. >Twilight stands over you, hyperventilating with tears swelling in her eyes, “Anon! Everypony stand back! Give him some air!”
  38. >The mares comply, quickly jumping back a few feet
  39. >Pinkie still remains in her frozen state, “I'm so sorry Nonny. I didn't know...” She quietly mumbles out from behind her hooves
  40. >Twilight begins to do CPR on you, attempting to revive you. She screams, “Somepony get Nurse Redheart!”
  41. >She continues to push her hooves into your chest, “Anon! Stay with me! Please!”
  42. >You can feel a teardrop land on your cheek
  43. >All the cards were in place
  44. >Now was the time to strike
  45. >You shoot your eyes wide open and quickly grasp Twilight by the shoulders
  46. With a smug grin, you cheekily say, “Gotcha!”
  47.
  48. >Twilight look at you with her mouth agape, tears still in her eyes, “W-what?”
  49. You stand up, brushing some dust off of your shoulder, “I was joking. I'm not really allergic to peanuts.”
  50. You turn your attention to Pinkie, who is wearing about the same expression as Twilight, “Great muffins by the way Pinkie.”
  51. >Twilight doesn't move, still mortified by the thought that she might have lost you
  52. >You look around the room and look at the ponies
  53. >Applejack and Rainbow are both staring daggers at you
  54. >Fluttershy is quietly sniffling in a corner, avoiding eye contact with you
  55. “What?” You ask, shrugging your shoulders
  56. >That set Twilight off
  57. >“What? What?! I thought you died!” She shouts at you
  58. >Oh boy she looks pissed
  59. >Maybe if you just explain that it was just a joke again it'll calm the little book pone down
  60. >You open your mouth to try to defuse the situation but Twilight cuts you off
  61. >“I can't believe you Anon!”
  62. >You try to bend down to hug her but she stands on her hind legs and pushes you, knocking you back to the ground
  63. >She begins to cry again and she runs out of Sugarcube Corner
  64. >Getting up for a second time you take another glance around the room
  65. >All of their expressions are the same
  66. “What? It was just a joke.” You say, trying to defend yourself
  67. >Applejack shakes her head and looks away
  68. >“That wasn't cool Anon. We thought you were seriously hurt.” Rainbow says scornfully
  69. >That came as a shock to you
  70. >You thought that if anyone could appreciate a good joke it would be her
  71. >Well her and Pinkie Pie
  72. >You turn your attention to the pink mare who was, herself, almost on the verge of tears
  73. >She looks at you with a frown
  74. >You've never seen this mare sad before, you didn't think that she knew how to do anything other than smile
  75. >“I think you should go Anon.” She says looking at the floor
  76. >Wow, you can't remember the last time shes called you by your name
  77. >It really starts to set in how much you fucked up
  78. You hang your head in shame, “I'm sorry girls, it was just meant to be a joke.”
  79. >Rarity speaks up, “We're not the ones you should be apologizing to Anonymous.”
  80. >Shes right
  81. >You turn around and leave the bakery, determined to make it up the purple pone
  82.
  83. >You drag your feet with your hands in your pockets, thinking about how to apologize to Twilight
  84. >Thinking about getting her a “I'm Sorry” card from the general store you begin to head that way
  85. >But you stop yourself
  86. >A card can't say it better than you can, and you doubt they have a “I'm sorry for being such a massive dickhead” card laying around
  87. >Guess you'll just have to do this the old fashion way
  88. >Getting on your knees and begging for forgiveness
  89. >The walk to the library never seemed so long
  90. >Even those days of working from dawn till duck on the Apple farm and then drudging your way home seem like a cake walk compared to this
  91. >Continuing your journey back to the treehouse, you think of what to say but nothing really comes to mind
  92.
  93. >After what seemed like an hour but in reality was probably five minutes, you find yourself at the front door
  94. >Taking a deep breath you slowly open the door handle and creep inside
  95. >The last thing you want it for Twilight to run downstairs and shove you out before you have a chance to apologize
  96. >The sound of sobbing fills the air of the usually quiet library
  97. >Your gut tightens as you hear your marefriend crying upstairs
  98. >And it feels even worse knowing that you are the cause of it
  99. >You gradually make your way up the stairs, taking care to avoid the planks that were squeaky
  100. >You really needed to get around to fixing that
  101. >As you approach the door the sound of Twilight sobbing grows louder
  102. >You feel like your choking as you reach for the door handle
  103. >Now you're beginning to wish you really had died
  104.
  105. >Carefully turning the door-handle, you push the door open and knock softly on the wood to get her attention
  106. “Twilight?” You announce, almost at a whisper
  107. >The mare stops crying into her pillow and looks at you
  108. >It almost rips your heart out
  109. >Her face, usually as smooth as silk, is matte and wet with tears
  110. >Her mane is tangled and frizzy when its usually smooth and flat
  111. >“What do you want?” She hisses out. “Here to play another cruel joke on me?”
  112. >You sigh as you walk towards the bed, head still hanging low
  113. >Sitting down, you place your hand on Twilight's neck, just above her wings
  114. >She recoils a little, but quickly resumes her original position
  115. >She feels a little tense so you rub her neck a little, hoping to ease the tension in both her neck and the air in the room
  116. “Listen Twi I-” You begin but you are swiftly cut off
  117. >Twilight shakes her head slightly as she flexes her wings, knocking your hand off
  118. >“No you listen. You may not realize this but losing you is my greatest fear. I have to live knowing that one day I'll lose you and there's nothing I can do about it.”
  119. >Twilight begins to tear-up again, you instinctively wrap your arm around her waist
  120. >This time she doesn't shove you off, but rather embraces it
  121. >“There's been days, even weeks, when I can't sleep because I know that one day you won't be here anymore...”
  122. >She leans her head on your shoulder, “But I'll still be here. Without you.”
  123. >Twilight breaks down in your arms, loudly sobbing
  124. >You just hold her, running your hand through her mane and cooing her
  125. After a bit you decide to speak up, “I'm sorry about my prank. I didn't know how close to home it hit. I know that one day I'll pass on...”
  126. >Twilight tightens her grip on you
  127. “But that's why we should appreciate all the days that we do get to spend together, and not think about what lies ahead. You can't stop it, so there's no point in wasting time on thinking about it.”
  128. >Twilight slowly stops crying, you can feel her nodding against your chest
  129. >“I guess you're right.” She mutters out
  130. >You kiss her on the cheek and lie down in the bed alongside her
  131. >Both of your breathes slow down as the two of you sleep the afternoon away
  132. >And it was the best sleep Twilight got in weeks
