  3. Discussion board question:
  4. Virtue Ethics refers to believing that ethical behavior is based on a set of virtues that are morally valid without any consideration to the action or subsequent outcome. Moral Relativism refers to being able to define ethical behavior based upon the context. Which do you agree with as a basis for ethical action and why?
  5. Respond to fellow student discussion board:
  6. I tend to stay on the side of relativism because I am a black and white kind of person. As a US Marine we pride ourselves on high moral standards, doing what we say we are going to do when we say we are going to do it. Recently my mom’s home was affected by the flooding in south Louisiana, my siblings were all quick to tell her how to move forward from losing everything she possessed in her home, at the same time they were taking everything that was not nailed down from her. I had to sit her down and explain the path to rebuilding, lay out a plan for FEMA help and line up workers to help demo the house; all of this had to be done to a person who is blind. I had to set an example to my kids and my siblings on how to act literally in the middle of a storm. We are quick to judge others on their actions while we judge ourselves on our intentions. Ethically speaking, my siblings stole everything from my mom; they took her possessions and much of her freedom because they were thinking of themselves. For the past three weeks I have been to her house daily making sure that her home was going to get rebuilt quickly. I can only pray that she realizes that I have her best interest in mind.
  7. For this reason I believe that moral relativism is the best method of ethical action, saying what you are going to do and then putting those words into action.
