  1. hey eric! k, so i'm giving you the script. good luck memorizing!
  2. Is It Really Worth the Jump?
  3. Setting: takes place on a helicopter about to take off. An indifferent pilot (named Darrell) is standing with a nervous, flustered teenage girl named Chelsea. Chelsea is paying Darrell before the takeoff)
  4. Darrell: (sighs emphatically) “Hi, my name is Darrell and I guess I’ll be your pilot today. Let me just have you know, this is my first time conducting a sky diving procedure, and because I warned you, I’m not responsible for any medical bills. Got it?” (Goes to his seat and pushes buttons to start the helicopter)
  5. Chelsea: “Yeah…ok.” (to self) “He seemed friendly enough. It’s not like I was expecting to have good treatment for my last day on earth.”
  6. Darrell: “Preparing for takeoff in 3…2…1…”
  7. (Chelsea is still standing while the helicopter takes off and stumbles when they start rising off the ground)
  8. Chelsea: “Oh wow, this is actually happening.”
  9. Darrell: “Kid, I’m just doing what you paid me for.”
  10. Chelsea: “Ah, right.”
  11. (Chelsea goes to the edge of the helicopter and looks out the door. She takes a deep breath and hangs out of the door)
  12. Darrell: (getting up from his seat and rushing over) “Hey! What do you think you’re doing?! You could die by doing that!”
  13. Chelsea: “That’s kind of the point!”
  14. (Darrell, very angry, grabs Chelsea by the shirt and yanks her back into the helicopter. She collapses and trembles with fear. Darrell stands in front of her with his hands on his hips)
  15. Darrell: “You’re planning to jump without a parachute? Kid, you’re insane!”
  16. Chelsea: “Whether I’m insane or not, it doesn’t matter! I’m not gonna be alive by tomorrow!”
  17. Darrell: (confused) “Why are you doing this!”
  18. Chelsea: “Because…because I want to, ok?! I’m sick of being here, on this earth! My dad, before he left, told me that I’m worthless and my life was a mistake. No one notices me, not at school, not at work, not at home! My mom works 5 days a week, and when she is home, she’s passed out from the beer and from crying over my dad’s abandonment. I wear a smile every day to cover up my feelings of hurt and pain, but no one even notices that. My life is being held together by pieces of tape and glue! I just want this all to end!”
  19. Darrell: “So wait, lemme get this straight: you want to kill yourself because you think it’ll solve all your problems?”
  20. Chelsea: “Yep, pretty much.”
  21. Darrell: “So you’re trying to get people to notice you…by taking your life.” (gives her a narrow-eyed look)
  22. Chelsea: “Why are you looking at me like that?”
  23. Darrell: “Because what you’re doing is stupid. You think giving up all this makes it worth the jump? Kid, you’re young! You have so much to experience, so much to learn! And do you even know how many failed suicide attempts there are every year? 300,000! Even so, God has made a plan for your life and taking your life will take that all away! Think straight, kid!”
  24. Chelsea: (suspiciously) “So what you’re saying is…to jump out of this helicopter is a mistake and instead I should take a jump for life?”
  25. Darrell: “Yeah, kid. You have no idea how many people you’ll affect if you die. But you’ll affect even more lives if you yourself stay alive. What your dad did was a crummy thing, and everyone makes mistakes, but throughout life you’ll have an even better father who will never leave: God.”
  26. Chelsea: “Yeah…yeah, I think you’re right.”
  27. Darrell: “Of course I’m right! Kid, you have 2 major risks: either jump out of this helicopter and end your life unhappily, or take a jump into the risk of life, letting God take you where He wants to.”
  28. Chelsea: “I like the 2nd option better. It’ll take time, but I’m pretty sure I can do this.”
  29. Darrell: “Kid, you have more strength than you could possibly know. Don’t throw it all away.”
  30. Chelsea: (grins shakily) “Well, when you put it that way…” (looks at her watch) “Look at the time! I think I need to get home, Darrell!”
  31. (Helicopter begins to slowly descend. When the helicopter hits the ground, Darrell jumps out and assists Chelsea in climbing out.)
  32. Chelsea: “Thanks, Darrell! I’ll never forget this moment, you helped me a lot!”
  33. Darrell: “Me neither, kid! And just remember to live a good life! Stay strong!”
  34. Chelsea: “Ok! Bye!”
  35. (Chelsea waves goodbye and runs off. Darrell is left standing middle stage and speaks aloud to himself)
  36. Darrell: “I guess its time for me to follow my advice too. Now, if only that kid knew that I was their dad…”
  37. (shakes his head and walks off stage)
