Some people would say “Yeah, of course he chose a record of butch. He’s his studio partner”. What many people don’t know, is that I first heard this song years before meeting Bülent, it wasn’t until after we became friends and studio partners. My good friend Patrick gave me this album to listen to in a time when I was totally into that hip hop thing with creating instrumental beats, painting graffiti walls, and smoking that good stuff. I listened to every kind of music, but “Eyes Wide Open” was the first electronic album I listened to for more than only a few weeks. It was the first time I felt something like musical diversity in electronic music. “Eyes Wide Open” has strong musical vibes which is an important aspect to me as well as straight grooves and a great atmosphere. This is a unique aspect in Butch’s soundpieces “No Worries”, “Disco Shhh”, “Amnesia Haze”, and “Kids“, only a few names which are already all time classics, all united in one album. When I first met Bülent personally for some studio sessions, a cycle accomplished between that music of that guy I listened to and his character which he absolutely represented in “Eyes Wide Open“.
