"...! A stone whizzes from behind, just narrowly avoiding my ear before skipping across the width of the river to the other side."

s "Aaand, that's how you do it."

p "Sayaka...?"

"That's the last person I expected to still be up, especially after Yuzuki's, {i}ahem{/i}, story time."

"But sure enough, she's standing over me, looking as spirited as ever."

p "I didn't think you'd be awake."

s "Of course I am! The night is still young, y'know?"

s "I don't really remember why I fell asleep to begin with... I just woke up in the tent and saw you weren't there, so decided to come wandering."

p "Ah, yeah. No boys allowed, apparently. ...It's not like I was going to do anything funny, but Hikari seems to view me as some kind of deviant."

s "Is she wrong? She has caught us doing some pretty indecent things~"

p "Th-they were misunderstandings!"

s "Sure, sure."

"She drops herself down beside me, by the river."

s "We could always sneak back into the tent while Hikari is sleeping. I would love to see the look on her face when she wakes up in the morning!"

"...I think I'd get to see that face for all of five seconds before I'm launched into the atmosphere. Or sliced into ribbons. Or a combination of the two."

p "Uhh, I-I'll pass."

s "Because you like just spending time with me out here instead, right?"

p "R-real funny..."

s "Don't try and deny it. I can see it all over your face!"

"She giggles and leans against me, resting her head on my shoulder. Hey now, this is getting a bit close..."

"But... She's not exactly wrong."

"She can definitely be a handful at times, but I can't say I've hated the time I've spent with her. ...Just the two of us."

"There's something about her carefree spirit and seemingly limitless optimism that never fails to put a smile on my face, even if I don't want to admit it sometimes."

"She's... She's so close right now. I can feel her gentle breaths against my neck as she peers up at me, her eyes seeming to glimmer in the moonlight."

"Ah... What did this turn into? I can feel my heart thump as she shuffles ever closer to me."

"It's just the two of us. Alone. ...In such a serene setting."

"There's something I've been meaning to say to her, and I feel like if I don't speak my mind now, I might miss that chance forever."

"I swallow hard. I take a deep breath. I..."

p "S-Sayaka, I...mffnff?!"

"I'm stunned to silence as my lips come into contact with Sayaka's own, her eyes closed and her cheeks burning."

"Her lips are soft, warm...nearly intoxicating. I'm at a loss on what to do as she presses further into me, hooking her arms around my neck."

s "Mmnn... I can't believe I actually did it... This is so embarrassing."

"She breaks the kiss for just a moment, staring deep into my eyes with a smile so sincere, and so...un-Sayaka-like, I have trouble believing it's the same person before me."

s "Kenta... I...really like you. In case that much wasn't obvious enough already, eh-heh-heh..."

p "Sayaka, I..."

"My breath catches as I try to steady my erratic pulse. I was completely prepared to tell her the same thing, but then she went and beat me to it! It's thrown me completely off track..."

s "I know I shouldn't be getting so close to someone like you, with how little time I have left here, but..."

s "I can't help it."

s "Thanks to you I've been able to live like...a normal girl. I've been able to do normal things. All the things I've always wanted to do, but never had a chance..."

s "And all the time I've spent with you... It's made me so happy."

"Her smile begins to waver. Her eyes become misty."

"I return the smile as I wrap my own arms around her, embracing the warmth between us."

p "Sayaka, I... W-well, I really like you, too. I'm not so good with these kinds of things, so I guess I've always struggled to find the right time to tell you, but--"

p "H-hey, are you okay?"

"She throws her head against my chest and nuzzles down, as if to bury herself away in it."

s "Kenta, I... I don't want to go back. Not to that life..."

s "It's not fair. I just want to stay here with you... And keep living this life..."

"Her voice sounds pained. I can see her shoulders begin to shake. Is she crying...?"

s "I know it's selfish, but I don't care. I'm sick of it all."

s "I've only stuck with it as long as I have because I didn't know about the life I was missing out on."

"I stroke her head in an effort to soothe her, running my fingers through her silky locks."

p "...So, don't go back? The thought of you ever leaving is..."

s "It's not that simple. We've probably already been pushing our luck enough already. With our 'vacation time'."

s "Sooner or later they're going to wonder why we haven't come back yet, and then they'll..."

"She trails off into a murmur and blows her nose on my shirt. Gross..."

p "Sayaka...? What will happen?"

s "...Something bad. Which is why it's better we leave before that happens, so you're not put in danger."

s "After summer vacation is over... We'll go."

"Cryptic as always with this magic business. I know she's doing it to protect me, but it still upsets me."

"That she's decided she's going. And that's that? I feel so helpless."

"I tighten my hold on her, as if afraid if I let go she might disappear forever."

p "Sayaka... Stay as long as you can."

s "...What?"

p "I don't care what trouble it might bring from this secret organisation of yours."

p "...I just don't want you to suddenly walk away from my life. I'd never forgive myself if I saw you just disappear like that."

"She sniffs and angles her head up to look at me with teary eyes."

s "Kenta..."

p "Let's face whatever might come our way...together... Okay?"

p "I know I'm not very strong. Or smart. Or, uhh... I forgot where I was going with this..."

p "But let's make a promise; that they'll never separate us."

p "I'm the descendant of an ancient hero, right? I'm sure between that, and the mighty superhero that is Sayaka, we can defeat anything that comes our way!"

p "Oh, and let's not forget our trusty side-kick... What was her name, something-something, the tentacle magnet?"

"I put on a goofy grin in attempt to raise her spirits. For a second, I think it works, as I see her usual smile come into view."

s "Hikari's right... You really are an idiot, Kenta."

p "Hah... Maybe."

s "...Do you really mean it, though? You don't know what you're getting yourself into..."

p "The more you try to push me away, the more I'm going to hold onto you. I really can't imagine life without you after everything we've endured together."

s "I really am that irresistible, huh? That you'd do something so reckless, all for me..."

"There we go, it sounds like the old Sayaka is coming back! ...For better or for worse."

p "You know it."

s "Okay. I'll stay with you. I want to believe we really can overcome this."

s "Just don't start crying when you realise how in over your head you are though, Kenta. If you thought Hikari can be scary, just wait until..."

s "Ah, I won't spoil the surprise~"

"She flops back onto me and gives me a squeeze, nuzzling into my neck as she plants a kiss there."

s "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to ruin such a nice moment with all of those waterworks."

s "We still have a while before we even have to start worrying about those things. So let's just enjoy our time together."

s "Let's enjoy...tonight."

s "This is nice... Isn't it?"

"I nod and return the hug wordlessly."

s "The stars are so pretty tonight..."

p "Yeah. But not as pretty as you--oww!"

"She thumps me on the shoulder with a bashful grin. What, so only she's allowed to joke around here?"

s "Even I know how corny that is."

"She lets her gaze wander over my shoulder, spotting the sleeping bag I dropped closer to the tent."

s "Hey... Do you think two people could fit into that?"

p "I-I don't know... It'd be an incredibly tight fit, I'm sure... Why do you ask?"

"That devious smile. I really shouldn't have asked..."

s "Why do you think?"

p "O-ohh..."

s "If you're not allowed back into the tent, we can just sleep out here. Together."

s "You've never slept under the stars before, right? There's really nothing else like it."

s "Let's make this a memorable night, Kenta."
