  1. Good afternoon /smtg/, I trust you're all doing well. I'm still at work on character bios and interface translation + gameplay tips for anyone who wants to give the game a shot, but those will probably be done at the end of the story translation. Mid-size update today, so let's get straight into it...
  2.
  3. Upon returning to Mary's place after defeating Fuguruma to return the library to normal, she rewards us with... 50,000 yen. Mary must have some pretty rich clients, for a fortune teller...
  4.
  5. Anyway, after collecting our bounty from Mary we head back to the detective agency where Rei has finally returned.
  6.
  7. She explains that earlier she had to leave to take care of a job acting as a bodyguard for Professor Azuma, the guy who wrote that book that Kumiko got from the library earlier.
  8.
  9. She then says that given the increase in demons lately, she thinks it's a good idea to go to Kasagi Mountain to attempt a ceremony that would grant her magical power.
  10.
  11. So, we head up 笠置山 Kasagi Mountain, head through a small forest clearing, and arrive at an unusual place... Rei calls this place "龍脈の気の流" which is well beyond my translation level, but it's basically a place where spiritual energy is very strong [literally something about the flow of energy through a dragon's vein]
  12.
  13. Here, Rei says she's going to perform a ceremony to ask a goddess for her power.
  14.
  15. Rei asks me what goddess she should pray to for power. The choices were:
  16.
  17. Amaterasu [offense magic]
  18. Ishtar [healing magic]
  19. Archangel Gabriel [support magic]
  20.
  21. Personally out of those 3 I like Gabriel's portrayal in the SMT series the most, and I got a tip from a Japanese site that says that support magic is by far the most useful. So, we went with Gabriel.
  22.
  23. Rei begins to meditate in front of the stone, and a pretty cool mini-cutscene plays where the avatar of Gabriel flies down into her body. We lawfag now.
  24.
  25. [just kidding, my alignment is actually Chaos according to my status screen]
  26.
  27. >>11006160
  28. Is that what it was? Wasn't there a place like that in Devil Summoner 2 for PS2? I only vaguely remember it.
  29.
  30. Well then, Dragon Stream it is from now on.
  31.
  32. >>11006120
  33. Since it's the Devil Summoner series, I wouldn't be surprised if that was a Dragon Cave or Dragon's Jaw, as seen in the Raidou series. The first one being a save point and the second being an impassable barrier.
  34.
  35. Rei makes a few comments on her newfound power and then suggests we go to Asahi Ward to check on Professor Azuma.
  36.
  37. Of course I totally ignored what Rei had to say and went to check out the sewers back in Yarai, the district where the Kuzunoha Detective Agency is. The sewers are a multi-part dungeon with entrances all over the city, of varying difficulty. More levels of it unlock as the game progresses, and there are a few optional bosses in here later on.
  38.
  39. Anyway, after leveling a bit and snagging myself a Hairy Jack and a Kijimuna, I took a quick visit to Victor and did a little fusion with some of my old demons before heading to Asahi.
  40.
  41. However, there's a tiny problem once we get there... Professor Azuma's house seems to be surrounded by an 異界 Otherworld area!
  42.
  43. Rei comments that it looks like somebody powerful managed to rip a hole between the real world and the Otherworld, which is not an easy feat apparently.
  44.
  45. This is a little mini-dungeon that's even smaller than the first one; there are a few damage panels but they're totally avoidable. There are 4 entrypoints all around Azuma's house, and you have to make your way to the center.
  46.
  47. Once through the Otherworld, we end up inside Professor Azuma's house where somebody is calling out, looking for him!
  48.
  49. Heading further into the house, we find out it's Takashi, that weird yakuza guy that Kyouji was after earlier in the game! He's looking for Professor Azuma but can't seem to find him. It seems Professor Azuma is Sid's teacher, and that Sid has some interest in Professor Azuma, as well as the book he wrote...
  50.
  51. Takashi sees Kyouji and flips out, saying that he was supposed to be dead! He immediately summons a horde of demons to fight us!
  52.
  53. Boss video: Ashinaga x2, Tenaga x2, Yakou

  56.
  57. Takashi interrupts the boss fight to tell us that while we were fooling around with his demons, he was busy setting up a bomb. However it seems he set the timer wrong and it goes off almost immediately, leveling Azuma's house!
  58.
  59. And that's all for today. After this is a really long textdump part where Kyouji and Rei get accused of blowing up Azuma's house and are taken to jail which I have yet to start translating. Seems like Mary says she also has a job for us which might mean an optional boss [her jobs are generally extra bosses]
  60.
  61. So the next update might take a bit because I like to have at least one boss battle per update.
  62.
  63. >>11008714
  64. Yes, the BOYCOTT thing is when they are low loyalty.
  65.
  66. Starting loyalty is affected by how well your negotiation went with them. Fused demons also have higher starting loyalty than demons you recruit in battle.
  67.
  68. As their loyalty increases you can gain direct control of what they do, and they won't disobey you as much. Most demons gain loyalty slowly by being in battle with you; certain demons have the "Greedy" personality characteristic and you can give them items to raise their loyalty.
  69.
  70. I actually did a trial run of this boss before recording it and discovered that it was pretty easy because I could spam status ailments and Yakou did no damage to my MC, so I didn't bother raising loyalty too much. I will probably have to work on it more in the future though, the next dungeon takes the training wheels off.
