  1. 15.3 Enhanced Capture (eCAP) Module
  2. 15.3.1 Introduction
  3. 15.3.1.1 Purpose of the Peripheral
  4. Uses for eCAP include:
  5. • Sample rate measurements of audio inputs
  6. • Speed measurements of rotating machinery (for example, toothed sprockets sensed via Hall sensors)
  7. • Elapsed time measurements between position sensor pulses
  8. • Period and duty cycle measurements of pulse train signals
  9. • Decoding current or voltage amplitude derived from duty cycle encoded current/voltage sensors
  10. 15.3.1.2 Features
  11. The eCAP module includes the following features:
  12. • 32-bit time base counter
  13. • 4-event time-stamp registers (each 32 bits)
  14. • Edge polarity selection for up to four sequenced time-stamp capture events
  15. • Interrupt on either of the four events
  16. • Single shot capture of up to four event time-stamps
  17. • Continuous mode capture of time-stamps in a four-deep circular buffer
  18. • Absolute time-stamp capture
  19. • Difference (Delta) mode time-stamp capture
  20. • All above resources dedicated to a single input pin
  21. • When not used in capture mode, the ECAP module can be configured as a single channel PWM output
