  1. I think travel sounds good on the radio and it does really well in the research. Its a bit like Radio 3 - we like the idea even though we don't tune in. The BBC has this thing called the appreciation index for programmes, and one of the best scoring programmes is the Shipping Forecast. But I can't believe that the majority of people tuning in are sailors.

  3. I think commercial radio loves traffic and travel, because it lets them mention local place names, and unlike the news, you can sponsor the travel; and that makes them a lot of money.
  4.
  5. But I don't believe anyone uses it. When I jump into the car, my satnav automatically routes me around traffic problems. It knows exactly where I am going.

  7. Radio 4 and Radio 1 have no traffic news at all, and I can't believe that it is very useful on a national station like Radio 2 anyway. It's so unlikely to be useful.

  9. What I think *is* useful is public transport information. We dont use satnavs for public transport and if the Piccadilly line is down, or the tram line to Eccles is broken, that's important because that affects a lot of people.
