  104. Bio:
  105. Not much is known about the man known as Theodore Harel. Theodore lacks any known family, save a sister who currently dwells in Sivult by the name of Euphemia Harel, working as a tea trader with one of the great trading companies. The Harels seem to have no known record prior to Theodore and his sister; the Harels hail not from Ervalt or Sivult nobility nor from the Ersht landowning class. It has been theorised by peers of Theodore that he might be descended from Kalgar refugees or even a Govitz defector; however, with what little record of the Harels placing them squarely as having been born and raised in Ervalt, the likeliest conclusion is that the Harels were simply a family of unknowns who dwellt in anonymity. The lack of documentation seems to be more a fault of record-keeping than genuine ill-intent; Theodore, by all accounts, has never been the type to keep very secret either about himself, his talents or his activities.
  106.
  107. What records are known about Theodore date to about twelve years ago, dating back to the records of a college within Ervalt, with an unnamed patron funding Harel's education. Theodore seems to have studied there for three years, noted for both talent, both in dueling students he viewed as slighting his "godly talents" and in education as well as intense eccentricity, before disappearing once more upon concluding his studies, which appear to have been into the mechanics of magic, such as the casting thereof and possible methods of interfering with it. The records pick up Theodore as resurfacing a year later in the retinue of a Ersht sage conducting research upon nullification tomes derived from Kalgarian magic, where he worked for another three years before as bodyguard and research assistant, just as with his university studies, disappearing with noted eccentricity and talent, especially among his coworkers, who were in equal parts begrudgingly accepting of his talent and increasingly exasperated with his sheer pride.
  108.
  109. The most interesting part of his resume, however, follows immediately afterward. After his stint with the Ersht mages researching the secrets stolen from Kalgar, Theodore was then reported as travelling among a band of mercenaries hired out to an officially unknown client for various missions into Kalgarian and Govitzian territory, again for another two years before disappearing entirely. The content of these missions remains unknown; what records there are record only his visits, funding and equipment, which include, variously, swords, tomes, fine clothes and, in one case, a matchbox full of gold. The funding, at least, was traced to a trading company in Ervalt, specializing in transporting worthless goods across the seas to and from Sivult. Officially, of course, Theodore remained off the staff roll for any voyages from Ervalt to Sivult or vice versa, and in any case the goods transported would be too worthless to require more than a cursory security detail. There is the possibility that Theodore may have been operating for Ervalt intelligence upon these visits, but if this is so, the capacity in which he operated remains unclear; what is known of Theodore's character presents a person unsuited to espionage.
  110.
  111. In any case, the records on him go dead once more after a certain point, until about two years prior, as Theodore surfaced once more, a wealthy landowner in Ersht with a fair few lands towards the south dedicated to apple farming and known for publishing books, both for the entertainment of the upper crust and papers for the study of magic, with the most recently released paper being one on the interactions of various forms of Anima magic. It is unclear where Theodore drew the funds for his estate from, again as a fault of the records kept on him, though if the theory that he worked for Ervalt intelligence is true, the funds may have stemmed from being let go by the government with a veritable fund, and it is entirely possible he may have simply made money from investing in apple farming in order to take advantage of a rising demand for cider. In any case, Theodore currently resides among the upper crust of Ersht society, through which he heard of the strike team.
  112.
  113. Theodore's selection for the strike force was an unlikely event; Theodore was, despite military experience and mental skill, relatively unknown to the Ersht military, mostly due to the hidden nature of much of his resume. Theodore's record, however, spoke for itself; an mind with knowledge of the workings (if not the practice of) magic and the sword, experienced in the territory that the team would be entering, and a person unafraid of heading into enemy territory. Therefore, with full knowledge and belief in his own godly talents, Theodore, as soon as the call for members to join the hunt for Joi Hart came towards him, did not hesitate. Instead, he eagerly volunteered, demanding a chance to show off what he believed to be his 'godly talents' and presenting the full record of his extensive experience in the field. It had been some months since his last mission, and so he would have to relearn things he once found easy, but now had rusted away in his short break between projects.
  114.
  115. But a man of Theodore's godly talents cannot be so easily deterred by a simple challenge.
  116.
  117. Personality-wise, Theodore is defined by two traits; an intense hunger for knowledge and chances to prove himself, and an almost-pathological belief in what he refers to as his 'godly talents'. Immensely arrogant, Theodore is driven by the desire to show to the rest of the world the talents that drove him around the world in the service of many employers; he is more driven by the challenge than any loyalty to Ersht or any promise of money, though by the same token, it makes him impossible to bribe or persuade, for any wavering from his mission would entail a failure to prove his godly talents. His arrogance often manifests in blasphemous and hyperbolic statements and somewhat insane, raving behavior, only somewhat alleviated by the fact of Theodore actually possessing talent as opposed to being entirely incompetent. To Theodore, a challenge to his talents is an insult to him, which must therefore be responded to with what he deems appropriate. However, he possesses the restraint to stay mostly focused on the mission; after all, to fail to complete the mission due to stupidity would be a failure of his godly talents, and for his godly talents to fail would be unacceptable.
