- Alright, Ill give you a few "What would you do in this scenario" questions. Are you ready?
- Owen - Today at 10:03 PM
- Yes
- Shadow - Today at 10:03 PM
- A character named "Obama" joins, 30 year old bald assistant. Database says their account is 1 day old. As soon as they board they run to the tool storage, grab a welder and a fueltank and run around in the halls with it.
- Owen - Today at 10:06 PM
- First, I'd stop and PM them, asking them if they are familiar with the rules of our server about names. I would also question what they are doing with the fuel tank. If they respond and apologize, I would ask an admin to rename them and then ask the new player to reread the rules. If they do not respond or show clear intent of wanting to grief I'd use one of the verbs to freeze them (wind them I think) and the continue to PM them about what they were doing. If it comes to it and they are a clear greifer. I'd place a ban on them.
- Shadow - Today at 10:08 PM
- Right right.
- Alright, next question. You recieve an adminhelp from a regular player on the server stating that they have been permabrigged for no reason, and that the officer that moved them in never said anything.
- Owen - Today at 10:13 PM
- I'd respond asking them to explain the full situation. As they would be explaining I'd quickly look back up through the logs to see if it was true. I'd also PM the officer at that point to just ask what the exact punishment was that led to the perma brig (at this point I wouldn't be looking to punish anyone, just figure out if there was malicious intent). Without making a huge scenario out of this, if the officer had no reason and just brigged to brig, I would deal out a punishment as needed (not sure what it would be. Temp job ban probably. Maybe a warning. I'd have to see what the normal punishment scaling is)
- Shadow - Today at 10:14 PM
- The officer says the Warden told them to permabrig them.
- Owen - Today at 10:15 PM
- I'd PM the Warden asking what the punishment was and the exact crime. If it is legit and approved by the Head of Security assuming there is one, I'd report my findings back to the prisoner and then let the officer know that I have finished my investigation. Maybe let him know that people appreciate it when they are told what is going on.
- Shadow - Today at 10:16 PM
- You try to the PM the Warden but you find out he cryo'd. Completly gone, can't find out who he was. There's no paperwork either and as far as the officer knows no evidence was raised.
- Alright at that point, I'd begin questioning when the officer received this "order" from the warden if he is already stored in cryo. Im not really big at intervening ICly as OOC staff but if both the officer and prisoner don't know why they were bragged id let the rest of the administration team know what is going on and have the prisoner be released.
- Shadow - Today at 10:19 PM
- Very well, next question then. You are in the lobby, only staff online, suddenly you see two people, an officer and a scientist shooting each other with lethal weapons. They officer dies and the scientist dies shortly after because of the wounds.
- Owen - Today at 10:22 PM
- I'd quickly hop in and observe. PMing both of them why the fight happened and if RP was has leading up to the incident. If it was proper and everything checked out, I'd let them go. Assuming there was nothing, I'd wait for the responses and then find out why the officer has lethals along with the scientist, what the alert level was and if this was grief. If It was grief I would be expecting an ahelpnsoon anyway, likely.
- Shadow - Today at 10:22 PM
- Both of them weren't antags, both say the same thing "He shot first."
- Owen - Today at 10:25 PM
- Well in that case I'd look back at the logs since I was lobby sitting and see who actually shot first. I'd also see if anyone was nearby during the incident and get their take on what happened. Clearly one of them are not being honest about not firing first. Depending on what I find, there would be punishments. If these are first time offenses id make a note of it and a temp job ban for whoever started it. If the person has a history of this stuff. Id apply an actual ban. Length of it would depend of whatever the standard is
- Shadow - Today at 10:26 PM
- (We only get attack logs if their shots actually hit)
- Both of them confirm that they shot at each other a few times before their shots actually hit. So finding out who shot first is sadly not possible. Nobody was nearby, only a doctor that came afterwards to collect their bodies.
- Owen - Today at 10:27 PM
- Hmph... id definitely note it in both of their notes. Possibly a warning and temp job ban for both of them making sure they know they are free to appeal and id probably link them the unban forums
- Owen - Today at 10:29 PM
- There really is no way to know who shot first... hopefully putting the appeal on the forums will bring in anyone who knew about it. If it then I'd deal with whatever the job ban was. Im thinking that I would be lenient since I am not sure who actually started it. Perhaps they were speaking before the actual attack
- Shadow - Today at 10:29 PM
- Alright, then allow me to give you a bit advice
- You could have asked why the scientist was carrying a weapon (possibly outside of science?) around with him.
- Where did that happpen?
- What was the code level?
- Why did they have lethal weapons with them in the first place?
- Owen - Today at 10:31 PM
- I think I said that I would ask the last two question. That is smart to ask where it would happen, I just assumed it was in science so that is why they had the weapon. I can see how I would handle that better now.
- Shadow - Today at 10:32 PM
- Oh yes, I overread the last two
- Owen - Today at 10:32 PM
- Quick question, how much redtape is there as a mod? Can you ban people without getting confirmation from someone else? I guess I'm just used to the slow investigations by CCIA
- Shadow - Today at 10:33 PM
- Entirely depends on what they did and if you have evidence to back it up
- Owen - Today at 10:33 PM
- Alright. Sounds good to have evidence before applying a ban. Makes sense
- Shadow - Today at 10:34 PM
- Alright, those were the 3 standard questions I ask, now something more "custom".
- As far as staff knows you quit CCIA because you are busy with IRL, etc.
- Being a mod certainly requires more attendance, at least on the server, than a CCIA.
- And more work, on the server.
- Owen - Today at 10:37 PM
- Yes, I did step down from the CCIA Leadership position. It wasn't just that I was too busy, I was away for awhile and felt disconnected. I started up school now, have it all handled and I just wanted to get in a newer field of help around the server. I am usually on for a round or 3 on week nights. Weekends my attendance is usually much higher.
- Owen - Today at 10:38 PM
- I think I will be around enough for the position
