  3. After doing a little bit of research, I think I’ve come up with a solution that will work for you. Canvas’s documentation on the “Treat Ungraded as 0” assignments isn’t the best, unfortunately, and despite logically making sense, it doesn’t actually set the ungraded assignments to 0. It simply displays a 0 for ungraded assignments. Ultimately the zeroes don’t count for anything, they’re just there as part of a view setting.

  5. My suggestion in this instance would be as follows:

  7. 1. Backup your gradebook. You can do so by clicking the gear icon on the gradebook and selecting “Download Scores (.csv)”
  8. 2. Put your mouse over the first column in your gradebook. You’ll see a drop-down arrow.
  9. 3. Click the arrow and then click “Set Default Grade”
  10. 4. Enter “0” as the default grade.
  11. 5. Do not check “Overwrite already-entered grades.”
