Episode 1: A New Transfer Student Comes to School!

"I am Yamada Ryuko, an ordinary junior student recently transferring to Akiba High in Neo Tokyo."

>Cut scene to a young red-haired girl sitting alone in a train bound to Akiba High. She wakes up to a small cat-like creature with black fur, sitting across from her, watching the girl intently.

Impaling blue eyes look up to meet brown. The sight would be adorable, had it not spoken up a moment later, in a rather apathetic tone. "This city isn't safe. Don't you know that, Yamada Ryuko?"
Her eyes widen. "You can talk?! And how do you know my name?"
It leaps gracefully onto Yamada's lap. "Yes, I can talk. I am a... well, in your world, you would call me a protector. I find girls like you."
Yamada quirks an eye. "What makes me so special?"
The creature meows idly. "You have... the potential. You can make this city safe."
"The potential? How?"
The "protector" offers a paw, as if to shake hands. "Just make a contract with me." Hesitantly, Ryuko accepts the paw, and closes her eyes...

>Screen fades to black. A drop of water falls... into a raging fire that is quick to consume it.
>Scene cuts back to Yamada's eyes fluttering open, looking down on the protector with horror.

"What... what was tha-" The train announces that it would arrive at Akiba High soon.

"Well, it wasn't entirely finished, but you've made a contract," It hops off of her lap, eagerly looking up. "You'll understand everything soon."

>Cut scene to school gates, bustling with students. Yamada manages to get through the crowd, bumping into a brown-haired student talking with two older girls and apologizing to her.
>Cut scene again to a middle-aged woman with classes standing behind a desk. Yamada is seated at the second to last row, by the window.

"Good morning, everyone!" The woman smiles at the students. "My name is..." Camera switches to Yamada's perspective, who doesn't hear the teacher's name. Instead, she looks out of the window.
"Ugh, this is already getting boring..." She thinks to herself as she rolls her eyes, but sees what appears to be a two-headed dragon crash into the school year, a black-haired girl in "tactical" gear coming out from the school building to seemingly unload a pistol's magazine into it within mere seconds. The monster charges at the black-haired girl, and... is shot through both of its heads by an arrow of burning light, shot from the bow of a cheerful-looking blonde in an elegant dress. Nobody else in class seems to notice this battle... so Yamada turns her head back to the teacher in time for a question.

>Cut scene to bell ringing to signal the end of school, Yamada wading through yet another crowd of students to leave...

"The hell was that back there?" Yamada thinks to herself as she walks down an empty intersection, when she notices a blue-haired girl in rather skimpy clothing brawling with an oversized lizard, somehow unscathed even after getting scratched. Not wanting to be involved in this, Yamada ignores it, and goes a different way back home...
