  1. Justin Patry The ironic part was that I was pretty much at the root of that situation and several others over the weekend. They kind of all flowed into each other one way or another but I think everyone is better off for it in the long run as Marq has become famous in his marbling and Derrike is now an internet phenomena amongst other things.
  2.
  3. In short the situation is as follows.
  4.
  5. Champ and Neo were complaining that they were placed beside each other in the Top 64 bracket and had to play each other. At first the notion was that 'Hey, you didn't pre-register... who gives a shit. Deal with it because you don't get special treatment'. Turns out it was not the case and it was actually the contrary.
  6.
  7. At the same time I had noticed that Marq and Wandles were in the same boat. Given that since these individuals were pre-registered they should've been on opposite ends of the bracket and not met for some time. (I suppose with Marq it was a technicality since he did pre-register but there was a glitch that messed it up - he posted about this prior to the event). After deliberating this piece of information and my pushing the piece to do right by the players given the circumstances it was decided it'd go through if there was collective agreement between players and nothing more.
  8.
  9. Such was the case and thus the positions in the bracket for wangles and champ were swapped.
  10.
  11. On the bracket Marq/Wandles placement and Neo/Champs placement was directly above and below each other. That being said they would have all came across each other (and by extension Full Schedule) eventually (probably a match or two later than they had otherwise).
  12.
  13. Larry didn't care about the whining or to appease or ingratiate high level players (nor will I... EVER). However, in this scenario it was doing right by the players since pre-registration had occurred and such a scenario should not present itself immediately after pools with that being the case.
  14.
  15. That being said (and this is something I was actually discussing a few minutes ago) if it was just Marq and Wandles then I still would have pushed for them to have a swap should they have desired it given the situation when it came to my attention.
  16.
  17. Earlier when Tauseef had to leave because of his family emergency I was pushing to float him as well. That manifested itself in two forms: (a) Tauseef fighting his last few losers matches against the players in his pool and playing stone for the losers Top 64 spot, (b) simply playing stone for the spot since he would have wiped losers anyway, (c) be floated to a later emergency pool and have to play it out to make it into Top 64. Ultimately he declined when Eddie called to see how things were because he didn't want to cause trouble because he didn't know his time frame. Tauseef is a family man and I tremendously respect how he handled the situation and wanted him to have the ability to make Top 64 like I knew he would have had it not been ripped from his hands under the condition that everything was okay with his mom first. I wanted that to be a possible thing for him since he had earned it.
  18.
  19. No shady dealings with the pools. Only doing right by people and doing my best to take care of everyone in question and trying to give them what they deserve. None of it was Larry or Kyah's fault nor anyone else's (read: Marq). I do suppose this one is on me if it's problematic since I made the push for it all. It was all within good reasoning and with good intentions which is the only reason why Larry ever okayed it.

  21. Adam Perry your heart was in the right place but if you're floating top64 matches you don't need to be running a bracket. that's completely unfair to the other people in the bracket, and it's not your job to play favorites, even though your decision led my friends to do better in the tournament.

  29. Justin Patry There was discussion over it all between Larry, Kyah, the room general, and myself. It was initially brought up to Larry by Champ and Neo and I happened to notice that there was a similar situation going on at the time. Ultimately Larry gave the go ahead on it since he has finally say. I know how to run a bracket and run them quite efficiently. The Top 64 bracket is above what I typically run but I did have involvement in the decision process here and pushing to make that happen because it was the logical and reasonable thing to do at the time.
  30.
  31. It wasn't a matter of playing favorites but only doing right by the players. I would have made the case for any player coupling that was in that same exact situation. I certainly don't ingratiate to the 'pro' players (I actually got into it pretty badly with F-Champ over the Full Schedule situation for a little bit while in the process of handle that matter with Kyah and Larry). And I don't do things simply because I know people (even if it is Marq's big and beautiful half-brown self).
  32.
  33. It was purely based on doing right by the players whom did what they had to do with registration and should have been placed in pools in a way that resulted in their being on opposite ends of the Top 64 bracket and not what had came up. I did push for it very hard but there was a general consensus over the action between the important parties involved to clear it and within the appropriate reasoning.

  35. Justin Patry David Kim I had forgotten about that to be honest with you and was under the impression that Marq had his pre-registration. I think that Adam had made a comment about it when we were talking that kind of affirmed what I had believed about that situation. Marq brought that up afterward that he had pre-registered but that he wasn't pre-registered because it didn't go through and he had missed it and he was seriously salty over it earlier.
  36.
  37. That would mean that Marq would have been the only one not pre-registered in that situation (Though in my eyes he did and the FR or Paypal servers had a miscommunication and it didn't go through on him). In which case the move becomes questionable but since Neo and Champ were both pre-registered the case is still made for that float since really they should have been in pools that lead to opposite bracket ends for Top 64 in the first place.

  39. Adam Perry considering the scrutiny your choice has brought on larry and the integrity of final round, i feel like the best choice would have been to let it rock. but it's done.

  43. Justin Patry At the end of the day this was discussed carefully between several party members with the reasoning laid out before all. Larry had final say in it - I made the case to him and it was viewed feasible and within reason. It's not as though I took the Top 64 bracket and changed it by hand and did so without conferring with anyone. I came into the situation in progress, asked to see the bracket, noticed what I did, explored it, discussed it, and a decision was made between the whole.
  44.
  45. It sucks that this stuff is all coming into question because it shouldn't. There are policies with pre-registerion and how seeding gets done. Both Champ and Neo should have been in pools that led to the opposite end of the bracket any way. It was a legitimate move that was discussed and agreed upon between every party involved. Once again.
  46.
  47. The same would have been done for lesser players. It is unfortunate that it happens to be those two and just like the situation with Full Schedule is only drawing any degree of attention because it does involve Champ and Neo when it otherwise wouldn't mean anything.

  51. Justin Patry In a few words, I suppose - yes. Gotta get that XF3 into command grab down.
  52.
  53. Certainly was yours to win. All the same you were waxing dat ass and I'm proud of you for it!

  55. Patrick Smith Y'all fucked up, but tbh, I'm not sure if I'd have handled things differently myself.

  57. Justin Patry There are rules in place about pre-registration and players in similar locals regardless. Champ and Neo had a case (as much as I take issue with Champ as a person and question his character after personal exchanges). It wasn't a bad call to make at the time. It was a very informed move.
  58.
  59. Unfortunately it had to be between those two. I imagine from here on out Larry will merely implement a no exceptions rule past pools. If you make Top 64 and have to fight a friend from your region then it'll be what it is.
  60.
  61. That's what happens when you try to take care of people and do right by all involved within the ruleset and unbiased reason. They get upset and this is why we can't have nice things.
  62.
  63. Same deal with Derrike. The bind wasn't a big deal but because it involved those two it became one. And regardless of the pool floating they would have played anyway so it still would have become a thing.
  64.
  65. At the end of the day people are ignorant to certain things and go on uninformed rants. The integrity of Final Round, Larry, Kyah, the other volunteers, and myself should not be questioned. The event was ran smoothly and things were done without bias. Honestly it didn't really effect anyone outside those directly involved. Should be a none-issue.
  66.
  67. But in a few words I suppose next time this just means that Champ can get fucked when it comes to his woes. *Shrug* The dude has lost my support anyway so that much I could care less about.

  69. Justin Patry And yeah, playing it strictly by the book and within reason I don't think many other people would have handled the situation any differently either.

  75. Patrick Smith The problem with this, Justin, is that while it's admirable to try and right a perceived wrong with Marq's situation (pre-reg glitch pitting him against Wandles), it's insensitive to the situation for the other 60 players in the tournament. Who knows? Maybe any one of them had just as good of a reason to be floated, and you didn't know about it.
  76.
  77. This becomes "local player privilege" instead of "top player privilege," which tbh isn't really any better. Maybe no one else in the bracket would be upset about the action (just from looking at it, only Derrike Nunn and J Rosa were really affected by the switch), but is that a risk you really want to take?

  79. Adam Wandler David Kim and Asian Demon were affected as well since that's who we went up against in Loser's (as well as the people further down those paths in Loser's).
  80.
  81. I think it sucks that we were pitted against each other and I was on my way to ask for the float and by the time I found the bracket holder they were already discussing it. Floats are shitty and dumb but so is going to FR to play Marqus. I don't think floats shouldn't happen but at the same time I'm still going to ask for it and leave it to the TO to make the decision.

  83. Patrick Smith I can't front. If I was in either of your positions I'd have probably done the same (and just let the chips fall where they may, whether TO approves or not).
  84.
  85. Just saying... Maybe we should exercise due diligence in getting brackets squared away before the tournament starts next time.

  88.
  89. I just know if i was running the bracket, you would have played each other, even though i love you both. and if i hadn't had to work, i might HAVE been running your bracket.
