  2. How to use the Fire Emblem If: Menu Translation Patch
  3. =====================================================
  4.
  5. To use the patch, you'll need the following things:
  6.
  7. -A 3DS on firmware <= 9.2.0 (one capable of running CFW).
  8. -A .3ds file copy of the ROM for Fire Emblem: If Special Edition/Black Kingdom/White Kingdom dumped from a retail cartridge. Uncart is a good tool for this: https://github.com/citra-emu/uncart
  9. -A copy of the patch files, downloaded from the appropriate location.
  10.
  11. Assuming you've got those, set up whatever CFW solution is applicable for your system.
  12. -If you own a Gateway cartridge, set up emunand and get the copy of DevMenu the Gateway website provides.
  13. -If you don't own a Gateway cartridge, but you do own Cubic Ninja, follow this tutorial to get RxTools emunand set up: http://pastebin.com/SUZWezYu
  14. -If you own neither a Gateway nor Cubic Ninja, but you're playing on an old 3DS or 2DS, follow this tutorial to get RxTools emunand set up: http://pastebin.com/7AiVeEcb
  15.
  16. Once you've got CFW set up, you'll need to acquire XORpads to decrypt your ROM before you can run the patcher.
  17. -It's recommended to use Decrypt9 to generate xorpads (https://github.com/archshift/Decrypt9/).
  18.
  19. Once you've dumped your xorpads, place them in a subfolder called "Xorpads" with the patcher executable, and extract the patch .zip to the same folder as the executable. Your folder should look something like this: http://i.imgur.com/2Kh4pSn.png (BFZJ = Special Edition, BFXJ and BFYJ = Hoshido/Nohr).
  20. The xorpads you'll need will have "Main.exheader", "Main.romfs", "Main.exefs_norm", and "Main.exefs_7x" in their names.
  21. At this point, open the patcher. Select the .3DS ROM, the Patch folder, and your Xorpad folder in the appropriate boxes, then hit "Validate xorpads" and wait for the program to verify your xorpads are correct. At this point, the program should look like this: http://i.imgur.com/wTHKFnZ.png
  22.
  23. -If you're going to be playing the game from a Gateway 3DS Cartridge, hit the "Build 3DS" after selecting whether to build the ROM as CARD2 or not. (CARD2 games have easier-to-deal-with save file exporting/importing, but you can't trim them, and FE:If is normally a CARD1 game. I'd recommend CARD2, but it's not the default option.) The resulting file will be build to "Whatever_Patched.3DS" in the same directory as your ROM.
  24. -If you're playing the game from CFW or want to play it from the SD card in Gateway emunand, hit the "Build CIA" button -- the patcher will build a .cia copy of the game that you can install with the CIA installer of your choice.

  27. Frequently Asked Questions
  28. ==========================
  29.
  30. -Can I keep my save file when transitioning to the patch?
  31. Yes, you can! You'll need a copy of SaveDataFiler, which is a 3DS Dev Tool I can't link to for legal reasons, but it can pretty easily be found by googling "SaveDataFiler cia".
  32. If you're playing on a cartridge copy of the game, enter RxTools emunand, insert your cartridge, and export your CTR card save file using SaveDataFiler. Once you've installed the patch as a .cia, import the exported save after finding it in the "SD" submenu.
  33. If you're playing on a Card1 .3ds ROM, follow this guide to export/import your save: https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-how-to-export-import-gateway-card1-sav-to-eshop-3ds-3dz-with-savedatafiler.380246/
  34. If you're playing on an installed .CIA copy of the game, export your save from the appropriate title before installing the patch (000012de for SE, 000012dc/000012de for hoshido/nohr). After installing the patch, import the exported save after finding it in the "SD" submenu.
  35.
  36. -Where should I report descriptions or other text that's improperly line-breaked?
  37. Please report it in the Support/Release thread for the patch, found in the serenesforest forums: http://serenesforest.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=55595
  38.
  39. -Why is the decision chapter translated and in English, but no other chapters are?
  40. Because that text file contains the text for when you make your decision, we translated the story text listed alongside the menu text. Don't worry about it.
  41.
  42. -How can I help out with the remaining translation work?
  43. If you're proficient in Japanese (and ONLY if you're proficient -- we do not need google translate users) and you're interested in helping out translating or proofreading, PM DJPlayer or SciresM on the SerenesForest Forums to join the translation team.
