- 01:29 ME3News The first section of questions has to do about you, BioWare and Mass Effect.
- 01:29 ME3News As I said earlier, if you don't want to answer a question, simply state so.
- 01:29 ME3News When did you first hear of Mass Effect? What was it that got you into it?
- 01:30 miracleofsound cool, let's begin1
- 01:30 miracleofsound ok
- 01:30 miracleofsound I first heard of Mass Effect from reviews on Gamespot
- 01:31 miracleofsound and other sites
- 01:31 miracleofsound I liked the idea of a game that was really deep and rich in story
- 01:31 miracleofsound But that also had fun and fast paced mechanics
- 01:31 miracleofsound Honestly I had no idea just how much I'd end up loving the universe they created
- 01:32 ME3News Similar to me then. Anything else you want to add or shall we move on?
- 01:32 miracleofsound What really drew me in was the insane attention to detail in the universe itself
- 01:32 miracleofsound I love games that have a tonne of backstory to discover should you wish to
- 01:33 miracleofsound And everything in Mass Effect was fascinating... from the science behind the weapons, to the races, to the epic story...
- 01:33 miracleofsound Helped that it was also one of the funniest games I ever played too
- 01:34 miracleofsound Bioware don't get enough credit for the humour in their games
- 01:34 miracleofsound Dragon Age was absolutely hilarious too at points
- 01:34 miracleofsound Am I rambling too much?
- 01:34 miracleofsound haha
- 01:34 ME3News Heh, that's actually good for me, but unexpected.
- 01:35 ME3News It's difficult to have simple one phrase responses and make a thread out of them.
- 01:35 ME3News Anything else?
- 01:35 ME3News OK then. The next one is:
- 01:35 ME3News If you were to use only one word to describe the series, which would that be?
- 01:35 miracleofsound Epic
- 01:36 miracleofsound in the proper sense of the word, not the internet slang sense
- 01:36 ME3News The most popular "Commander Shepard" video on YouTube currently boasts 565,000 views. Are you surprised by its popularity? Were you expecting such a response?
- 01:36 miracleofsound
- 01:36 miracleofsound Yes I was very surprised
- 01:36 miracleofsound I have been making music for 15 years, and have had a tough struggle with the music business
- 01:37 miracleofsound I have seen my career fall apart so many times just on the cusp of something big happening, the age old cliche of the guy who almost made it
- 01:37 miracleofsound So
- 01:37 miracleofsound when that song started to go kind of viral
- 01:37 miracleofsound it was a huge but wonderful surprise for me
- 01:38 miracleofsound I actually had no idea people would love it that much
- 01:38 miracleofsound I thought my COD songs would be bigger
- 01:38 miracleofsound But as it turns out, Bioware fans are the most fanatical and passionate out there!
- 01:38 ME3News Well, I am glad things are finally looking up for you.
- 01:39 miracleofsound And I guess the song has a very accessible simplicity to it that people enjoy
- 01:39 miracleofsound It's easy to hum or song along with
- 01:39 miracleofsound I guess you could say it was an accident, I wanted to make a good fu song but had no idea it would take off the way it did!
- 01:39 miracleofsound sing along.... not song
- 01:40 miracleofsound oh my.. typs
- 01:40 miracleofsound sorry... my typing is terrible
- 01:40 ME3News I'll fix those later, don't worry.
- 01:40 miracleofsound cool
- 01:40 miracleofsound a good fun song, not a good 'FU' song, hehe
- 01:40 ME3News I would honestly not be surprised if some people are humming while taking a shower.
- 01:40 miracleofsound haha
- 01:40 miracleofsound yeah
- 01:40 miracleofsound I find myself humming it too sometimes
- 01:41 miracleofsound I knew it was a good song when I caught my buddies humming it
- 01:41 ME3News Speaking of surprises.
- 01:41 ME3News So, you and BioWare are preparing a little surprise for us on Gamescon, aren't you?
- 01:42 miracleofsound Well, it's not really a surprise anymore haha
- 01:42 miracleofsound they announced it on the Escapist today
- 01:42 miracleofsound but yeah
- 01:42 miracleofsound I can't wait!
- 01:42 miracleofsound I mean... getting to meet the Bioware guys in itself would be treat
- 01:42 miracleofsound but getting to share the stage with them and have them debut a new song?
- 01:42 miracleofsound Just... crazy
- 01:43 miracleofsound I'm equal parts nervous, excited and exhilarated
- 01:43 ME3News Any hints as to what we should expect? I hear Jesse Houston is involved.
- 01:43 miracleofsound Ah...
- 01:43 miracleofsound I knw what you're referring to now
- 01:43 miracleofsound And I can tell you
- 01:43 miracleofsound That you know as much as me
- 01:44 miracleofsound I'm waiting for them to respond on that one
- 01:44 miracleofsound Jesse certainly strongly hinted on twitter that it was a possibility
- 01:44 miracleofsound I have emailed them about it and awaiting thier response!
- 01:44 miracleofsound If they were to use the song in ME3 it would be a dream come true
- 01:45 ME3News Good luck with that! But what about the song itself? It will be about the Normandy, yes? Can you tell us anything more specific?
- 01:45 miracleofsound But I'm not getting my hopes up until it's concrete and certain
- 01:45 miracleofsound ok
- 01:45 miracleofsound the song
- 01:45 miracleofsound the enw song
- 01:45 miracleofsound new
- 01:45 miracleofsound It's very different to 'Commander Shepard'
- 01:46 miracleofsound It has a more serious tone, it's not as fun and sily
- 01:46 miracleofsound silly
- 01:46 miracleofsound It's about the Normandy crew, both Shepard's team and the ship crew, reflecting on the sacrifices they've made through the events of ME1 and 2
- 01:47 miracleofsound There are also a few references in there to the Reapers invading Earth, and to Tali's dying star
- 01:48 miracleofsound Musically it has the same synth-heavy feel as Commander Shepard but it is slower with big loud guitars in the chorus
- 01:48 ME3News Ah. So, it is more similar to the LA Noire song you made? Obviously not the same style, but you get what I mean.
- 01:48 miracleofsound I get you
- 01:49 miracleofsound It's not quite as slow as Sweet L.A.
- 01:49 miracleofsound It's still a big stomping rock song in the choruses
- 01:49 ME3News Can't wait to hear it!
- 01:50 miracleofsound Glad to hear it
- 01:50 miracleofsound I have played it for 4 people, all mass Effect fans, and they all preferred it to Commander Shepard
- 01:50 miracleofsound But
- 01:50 miracleofsound It is certainly not as immediately hooky as that song
- 01:50 miracleofsound more of a slow-burner
- 01:50 miracleofsound In a way it's kind of similar to the Faunts song from ME1
- 01:51 miracleofsound lots of warm synths, lots of guitars and dynamics that go from quiet to loud and back
- 01:52 ME3News Well, I do hope BioWare can consider it as the new "Faunts song" for ME3.
- 01:52 miracleofsound We'll see
- 01:52 miracleofsound I would be surprised but delighted of they used any of my songs in their games1
- 01:52 miracleofsound 'if'
- 01:53 ME3News So, do you have any strong feelings towards the Mass Effect community?
- 01:53 ME3News Or the Escapist one?
- 01:53 miracleofsound Well both communities have been incredibly good to me
- 01:53 miracleofsound Super supportive and positive
- 01:54 miracleofsound The ratio of kind and complimentary feedback I get as opposed to negative, is quite heartwarming
- 01:54 miracleofsound makes me smile from ear to ear
- 01:54 miracleofsound I try to respond to every message I get too, I enjoy talking with fans of my music
- 01:55 miracleofsound I mean... the Mass Effect community got my song to a collective 800,000 views
- 01:55 miracleofsound that is a crazy number when you think that I had no support from any record label or management team or advertisers or anything
- 01:55 miracleofsound it was pure word of mouth by passionate gamers
- 01:56 ME3News Well, I can definitely think of a few nations which would have loved to have as high population.
- 01:56 miracleofsound yeah!
- 01:56 miracleofsound it kind of boggles my mind to think about it really
- 01:56 miracleofsound in total my osngs have acquired over 3 million views now between Youtube and the Escapist
- 01:57 miracleofsound This time last year i would have never dreamt it would get that big
- 01:58 miracleofsound Commander Shepard, Age Of The Dragon, Wheatley's Song and Wasteland Soul are the big four
- 01:58 miracleofsound Just goes to show...
- 01:59 miracleofsound Bioware, Valve, Bethesda
- 01:59 miracleofsound all have really passionate fan-bases
- 01:59 ME3News Very true.
- 01:59 ME3News Well, if there isn't anything else, we can move on to the second section.
- 01:59 miracleofsound no probs
- 01:59 ME3News We have all listened and loved your songs, which seem to be based on a great variety of video games and genres. Do you consider yourself an avid gamer? Is there a specific genre that you are a fan of more than others?
- 02:00 miracleofsound I'm a pretty obsessive gamer when something comes out that i like
- 02:00 miracleofsound For example, when Skyrim and ME3 come out, no-one is going to see me for a couple of weeks each times
- 02:00 miracleofsound time
- 02:01 miracleofsound But my favourite kinds of games are freeform games like ME or fallout
- 02:01 miracleofsound where you have a main goal but are also given a large and detailed world to explore
- 02:01 miracleofsound I love exploring, it's my favourite thing to do in games
- 02:01 miracleofsound finding little secrets that the devs tucked away for curious gamers
- 02:02 miracleofsound Like the audio logs in bioshock, the batarian's account of the plague in Me2, the many hundreds of secrets in Fallout 3
- 02:03 miracleofsound getting lost and immersed in a new and interesting world
- 02:03 miracleofsound It's a wonderful feeling
- 02:03 miracleofsound And no other medium comes close to how deeply gaming can make you feel a part of a fictional universe
- 02:04 ME3News Very true. Interactive storytelling at it's finest.
- 02:04 miracleofsound yeah!
- 02:05 miracleofsound If there's one thing i'd like to see more of in gaming, it is games like those, where the story, characters and world all have a large level of detail
- 02:05 miracleofsound Assassin's Creed 2 was another game I felt acheived that
- 02:05 miracleofsound achieved
- Well, we now know what inspires you in gaming, but what first inspired you into making songs out of video games, and is that what still inspires you today?
- 02:08 miracleofsound well
- 02:08 miracleofsound Last year I was feeling a little down about my music career
- 02:08 miracleofsound I had had some bad experiences with bands and records labels
- 02:08 miracleofsound and seen many years hard work wasted
- 02:09 miracleofsound Partly due to my own mistakes and partly due to those of others
- 02:09 miracleofsound So I wanted something to cheer me up
- 02:09 miracleofsound which, in this case, was to make a song, for fun
- 02:10 miracleofsound with no rules and no worrying if a record label would approve it or if it could fit into a specific genre
- 02:11 miracleofsound And as I love gaming so much, I felt it was natural to draw on my favourite hobby for inspiration
- 02:11 miracleofsound I'd been playing half life 2
- 02:12 miracleofsound and the phrase 'gordon freeman save dmy life' kept running around in my head
- 02:12 miracleofsound I cant remember where it came from
- 02:12 miracleofsound it was just there
- 02:12 miracleofsound so i said 'let's just make it into a song'
- 02:12 miracleofsound wrote it, recorded it, posted it on the Escapist
- 02:12 miracleofsound next day it has 15,000 or so views
- 02:13 miracleofsound this was amazing for me... I had been in bands before and struggled to get tha many views in a year, let alone a day
- 02:13 miracleofsound so I quickly made another, the ballad of clay carmine
- 02:13 miracleofsound and people loved it
- 02:14 miracleofsound this was the point when I realised this was a niche that no-one has tapped into yet
- 02:14 miracleofsound and that it was, for the first time in my life, looking like I would be able to actually do what i love and have it work out!
- 02:15 miracleofsound gaming is rich with wonderful stories to draw form too
- 02:15 miracleofsound I've written 17 gaming songs the last 5 months
- 02:15 miracleofsound that's more songs than I'd written in the previous 2 years
- 02:15 miracleofsound nothing inspires you like a bit of success
- 02:16 ME3News All of this is extremely interesting. Is this the first time you got the change to talk about it?
- 02:16 miracleofsound Anyway
- 02:16 miracleofsound no I did a couple of interviews before :0
- 02:16 miracleofsound
- 02:17 miracleofsound i think this is my third interview
- 02:17 miracleofsound I enjoy talking about it!
- 02:17 miracleofsound as you can tell from my rambling
- 02:17 ME3News Pffft. The word exclusive on the title would have worked so well! Oh well, I'll fit it in somehow, I promise.
- 02:18 miracleofsound haha you can put exclusive if you like, that word is vague at the best of times haha
- 02:18 ME3News Heh, so, out of those 17 songs, could you safely say that one or some of them are your favorites?
- 02:18 miracleofsound Yes
- 02:18 miracleofsound My favourites are
- 02:18 miracleofsound Little Sister
- 02:18 miracleofsound Wasteland Soul
- 02:19 miracleofsound and a song that I have recorded which no-one has heard yet
- 02:19 miracleofsound that will be coming out in a month or two
- 02:19 miracleofsound ..when a certian big game is released
- 02:19 miracleofsound
- 02:19 miracleofsound I love Sweet L.A. also
- 02:20 ME3News Battlefi- I mean, that's very interesting, thanks for letting us know.
- 02:20 miracleofsound because it was so utterly different and out there for me
- 02:20 miracleofsound it's not battlefield, it's not MW3 and it's not Skyrim
- 02:20 miracleofsound HA!
- 02:20 miracleofsound I'm a tease
- 02:20 miracleofsound
- 02:20 miracleofsound but yeah
- 02:20 miracleofsound so far
- 02:20 miracleofsound Little Sister
- 02:21 miracleofsound because musically it is more challenging and interesting than most of them
- 02:21 miracleofsound I love the wavey, watery feel to it
- 02:21 miracleofsound and how it builds and builds with the extra layers coming in, making that big wall of sound
- 02:21 miracleofsound loud and heavy but somehow soothing
- 02:22 miracleofsound I'm a big trent reznor fan,
- 02:22 miracleofsound and that was my love letter to his music
- 02:22 ME3News I understand. Moving on to the next question (we are getting there, I promise)
- 02:22 miracleofsound plus it's about bioshock, which is an amazing game
- 02:22 miracleofsound its ok
- 02:22 miracleofsound take your time
- 02:22 ME3News *section
- 02:23 miracleofsound i drank a coffe
- 02:23 miracleofsound coffee
- 02:23 ME3News Would you say that the Commander Shepard song helped towards your current popularity? Did it ensure getting a show on the Escapist?
- 02:23 miracleofsound It absolutely helped, it's by far my most popular song
- 02:23 miracleofsound I think it probably helped get the escapist slot
- 02:24 miracleofsound I approached them, so who knows! maybe they'd have liked the songs enough even without that one, but I think it has certainly helped me a lot
- 02:24 miracleofsound I think a lot of that also has to do with bioware themselves
- 02:24 miracleofsound they interact with fans more than most devs
- 02:24 miracleofsound and they actively promote fan made stuff
- 02:25 miracleofsound like those amazing pictures that eastern european lad made
- 02:25 ME3News Yeah, Patryk, amazing artist.
- 02:25 ME3News Other than Mandalore Movies, did you work with anyone else on the past, before the Escapist? How would you describe the "partnership" with him (Mandalore), or any others?
- 02:25 ME3News When it comes to music inspired from games, of course.
- 02:26 miracleofsound IN gamig related music, no, I had always worked alone
- 02:26 miracleofsound Actually the partnership with mandalore happened backwards
- 02:26 miracleofsound he made the video and I messaged him saying 'Oi! Link my channel and bandcamp page please!'
- 02:27 miracleofsound he's a good guy, he was really pleased with how well it went
- 02:28 miracleofsound he did a vid for gordon freeman saved my life too, which is also cool
- 02:28 miracleofsound I think he's like me, just a big gaming fan who likes to create!
- 02:29 ME3News Indeed, although my interactions with him were never very long, I can safely say that he is a big gaming (and Mass Effect) fan, who likes to take it easy and have fun.
- 02:29 miracleofsound yeah definitely
- 02:30 miracleofsound he's one of the nicer people i've met on youtube. he was really co-operative and understood why I wanted my page linked and all that stuff
- 02:30 ME3News Although I think that you partially answered this question earlier, would you consider having a show on the Escapist the pinnacle of song making, or do you have other plans for the future?
- miracleofsound I love my spot on the escapist and hope to keep doing it for a long time to come! But yeah, I'm an ambitious guy. I'd love to get my songs into games, even into movies, trailers, that kind of thing.
- 02:32 miracleofsound I'd love to score a game someday, that would be fantastic
- 02:32 miracleofsound honestly
- 02:32 miracleofsound I dont make all that much money now
- 02:32 miracleofsound so if i want to make a career out of this i need to think big
- 02:32 miracleofsound you would be amazed how few songs I actually sell
- 02:33 miracleofsound that's not to say people don't have the songs, haha
- 02:33 miracleofsound juding by the six million torrents tha come up when I google the songs...
- 02:33 miracleofsound that's the internet for you
- 02:34 ME3News And selling them as cheap as 1$. But hey, a few million views is quite a headstart!
- 02:34 miracleofsound yeah
- 02:34 miracleofsound on average, and i'm going by youtube here
- 02:34 miracleofsound every two thousand or so views translates into a sale
- 02:34 miracleofsound if even that
- 02:35 miracleofsound but it's expanding
- 02:35 miracleofsound I honestly don't judge people who torrent, I've never done it but it's part of the culture now
- 02:35 miracleofsound what pisses me off is when they come and post the torrent links on my videos
- 02:35 miracleofsound it's like 'come on man, have some respect'
- 02:36 ME3News Well I genuinely hope that this interview helps raise awareness over that subject.
- 02:36 miracleofsound yeah
- 02:36 miracleofsound I mean
- 02:36 miracleofsound most poeple torrent - they grew up with it in this day and age
- 02:36 miracleofsound I'm a bit older, when i was a teenager we had to go downtown and buy cds
- 02:36 miracleofsound there was no such thing as mp3 downloads
- 02:37 miracleofsound it's a different climate
- 02:37 miracleofsound on one hand
- 02:37 miracleofsound it's lovely and flattering to know that so many people are enjoying my songs
- 02:37 miracleofsound on the other.. I'm currently two months behind on my rent and spending every penny I have getting to gamescon
- 02:37 miracleofsound kinda ironic
- 02:37 miracleofsound haha
- 02:38 miracleofsound people assume that popular musicians are rich
- 02:38 miracleofsound I can assure you that's not the case hehe
- 02:38 miracleofsound but I'm not bitter
- 02:38 miracleofsound in fact quite the opposite
- 02:38 miracleofsound knowing that many people love the songs is an awesome feeling
- 02:39 miracleofsound I'm not lars ulrich
- 02:39 ME3News This has definitely been eye-opening, Miracle. What kind of staff do you usually interact with on the Escapist? Have you had any interaction with the "big guys"?
- 02:40 miracleofsound well, my main contact there is Russ Pitts, who is the main man when it comes to the site content
- 02:40 miracleofsound he's a cool guy
- 02:40 miracleofsound very passionate about gaming and about my music
- 02:40 miracleofsound he also makes the videos
- 02:40 miracleofsound by the way you can call me gav
- 02:41 miracleofsound it's less formal
- 02:41 miracleofsound haha
- 02:41 ME3News Heheh, thanks, I did some research before the interview, but as you can see, I am very bad with names.
- 02:41 miracleofsound thats quite alright man
- 02:41 miracleofsound :d
- 02:41 miracleofsound i am also terrible with names
- 02:41 miracleofsound and typing
- 02:41 miracleofsound lol
- 02:41 ME3News
- 02:42 ME3News Just give me a sec to take a backup of the chatlog and I'll be right back with the final section.
- 02:42 miracleofsound no problem, going to run out and refill my coffee
- 02:42 ME3News Okay.
- 02:44 ME3News Well, I am ready when you are.
- 02:45 miracleofsound ok back
- 02:45 miracleofsound went for green tea instead
- 02:45 miracleofsound haha
- 02:45 miracleofsound coffee will fuck with my sleep
- 02:45 ME3News Hehe
- 02:46 ME3News Well, in this section I'll be asking some questions the community brought forward, it's not every single one of them, but they are the ones I found quite interesting.
- 02:46 ME3News Then we can both go sleep.
- 02:46 miracleofsound cool!
- 02:47 miracleofsound I've never done this before
- 02:47 miracleofsound should be fun
- 02:47 ME3News I promise that the community on the BioWare Social Network are as not wacky as they said
- 02:47 ME3News Well, they are a bit
- 02:47 ME3News A lot
- 02:47 miracleofsound wacky is good
- 02:47 ME3News Well, they definitely are but that's beside the point
- 02:47 ME3News
- 02:47 miracleofsound weird questions are fun
- 02:48 ME3News First: ""What made you write the 'Commander Shepard song?/ What inspired you to write a song about Shepard? Was it a spur of the moment thing or did you think 'this guy's awesome, he needs a theme song!'
- 02:48 miracleofsound yikes
- 02:48 miracleofsound haha
- 02:48 miracleofsound ok
- 02:48 miracleofsound um
- 02:48 miracleofsound It was pretty much just because I love Mass Effect so much and wanted to make a tribute to it
- 02:49 miracleofsound it was not spur of the moment, I planned it for a while
- 02:49 miracleofsound The chorus came first and then I filled in the verses - which, incidentally, is usually how I work
- 02:50 miracleofsound once you have a good chorus the rest of the song often writes itself
- 02:50 miracleofsound and n the musical side
- 02:50 miracleofsound I wanted it to sound like an 80s cartoon theme intro song
- 02:51 miracleofsound but also to stay true to jack wall's ME feel
- 02:51 miracleofsound and have those lovely fat synths
- 02:51 miracleofsound so you'd know the minute i started that it was something to do with mass effect
- 02:52 ME3News I am listening to it right now, I definitely get what you mean.
- 02:52 ME3News So, the second one I think you'll find very interesting - Are you better than Commander Shepard?
- miracleofsound And the answer is: No. No-one is! (I am probably a better dancer than him though, but that's not saying much)
- 02:56 ME3News2 Hehe
- 02:57 miracleofsound But when it comes to running at the speed of felines and fighting like alien warrior races... no... Shepard is better than me.
- 02:57 ME3News2 'How much effort goes into a project like 'Commander Shepard'? Were there any verses or lines you really liked but didn't make the final cut?'
- 02:57 miracleofsound I also play a mean air guitar.
- 02:57 miracleofsound yeah
- 02:57 ME3News2 Woops, sorry for cutting you off
- 02:57 miracleofsound there are always a few versions of the songs
- 02:57 miracleofsound thats opk
- 02:58 miracleofsound i was rambling anyway
- 02:58 miracleofsound there are always a few versions of the songs
- 02:58 miracleofsound some of them are easier than others
- 02:58 miracleofsound Shepard was one of the easiest and fastest songs i've done actually
- 02:59 miracleofsound the lyrics and melody all seemed to come naturally and flow nicely
- 02:59 miracleofsound I think I got a mix I was happy with quite quickly too
- 02:59 miracleofsound for the record
- 02:59 miracleofsound Normandy was the complete opposite
- 02:59 miracleofsound that song was an absolute bitch to mix
- 02:59 miracleofsound took me over 80 hours of work to get it right
- 03:00 ME3News2 Normandy was a bitch? Uh-oh, I wouldn't tell that anywhere close to EDI.
- 03:00 miracleofsound hahaha
- 03:00 miracleofsound she'll lock me in the lower deck with jack
- 03:00 miracleofsound my worst nightmare
- 03:00 miracleofsound but yeah
- 03:00 miracleofsound normandy was the hardest song i've ever done
- 03:00 miracleofsound drove me mad
- 03:01 miracleofsound at one point i deleted all the guitar and bass tracks and started over
- 03:01 ME3News2 Sure
- 03:01 miracleofsound at about 12 second, just after the cymbal crash, you can hear me get a gmail chat notification
- 03:02 miracleofsound it somehow made it's way onto one of the vocal tracks and I forgot to delete it
- 03:02 miracleofsound
- 03:02 ME3News2 Ha
- 03:02 miracleofsound also... I am unhappy with the middle section
- 03:02 miracleofsound i felt I could have done more with it and that it is too bland
- 03:02 miracleofsound there you go1
- 03:02 miracleofsound haha
- 03:02 miracleofsound maybe that's too honest
- 03:02 miracleofsound oh well
- 03:03 miracleofsound
- 03:03 ME3News2 Well, you can never be too honest. Unless you are near EDI. You should seriously consider not being honest around her.
- 03:03 miracleofsound sometimes it is only in hindsight you realise these things... who'd have thought I regret something in my most popular song!
- 03:04 miracleofsound EDI is the most wonderful VI ever , she rocks
- 03:04 miracleofsound (under breath) is she still listening
- 03:04 miracleofsound >
- 03:04 miracleofsound ?
- 03:04 *** ME3News2 is now known as EDI
- 03:04 EDI I wouldn't know
- 03:04 *** EDI is now known as ME3News
- 03:04 miracleofsound HI EDI MY FAVOURITE VI
- 03:05 miracleofsound or is AI?
- 03:05 miracleofsound I'm never sure
- 03:05 ME3News AI, I think
- 03:05 ME3News Hehe, kidding aside, the next question is
- 03:05 ME3News "Mass Effect has got a pretty impressive soundtrack. Is there any theme that you particularly like?"
- 03:05 miracleofsound oh man
- 03:05 miracleofsound The Suicide Mission
- 03:06 miracleofsound you cannot imagine how many times I have blared that at full blast in my little apartment...
- 03:06 miracleofsound jack wall is a genius
- 03:06 ME3News Here is a question from me before we move on to the last three questions
- 03:06 miracleofsound I have a saved game just before that section of Me2 so I can watch that amazing cut-scene and hear the score over and over
- 03:06 ME3News What do you think of Clint Mansell?
- 03:07 miracleofsound Now that... is a good question
- 03:07 miracleofsound Honestly
- 03:07 miracleofsound I was dissapointed when heard jack wall had left
- 03:07 miracleofsound and as talented as mansell is, I always felt his musical style would not fit mass effect
- 03:08 miracleofsound his music has a lot of harsh, cold sounding strings and percussion
- 03:08 miracleofsound as opposed ot the warm, soft synths that Jack wall used
- 03:08 miracleofsound that give mass effect its unique sound
- 03:08 miracleofsound however
- 03:09 miracleofsound I then watched the E3 demo, where Shepard and Anderson escape earth
- 03:09 miracleofsound and I was blown away by the quality of the music
- 03:09 ME3News You read my mind.
- 03:09 miracleofsound I think mansell will do a great job
- 03:09 miracleofsound everything
- 03:09 miracleofsound from the huge electronic drones of the reapers 'BLUUURGH'
- 03:09 miracleofsound to the gentle twinkling piano during the child scene
- 03:10 miracleofsound was perfect
- 03:10 miracleofsound and I was so happy to hear the main theme melody when the normandy arrived
- 03:11 miracleofsound it wouldn't be mass effect without that glorious melody
- 03:11 miracleofsound you know the one... starts low and ascends
- 03:11 miracleofsound amazing
- 03:11 miracleofsound just anothe reason to be hyped for ME3
- 03:11 miracleofsound so yeah, I was skeptical but now I'm hopeful
- 03:12 miracleofsound you the same, yeah?
- 03:12 ME3News Sort of.
- 03:12 ME3News I never thought that Mansell produced great music in the terms of music that you can listen on your MP3 and think "Hey! That's great!" with a few exceptions, but I was always surprised at
- 03:12 ME3News a) His variety in music
- 03:13 ME3News b) How incredibly well it fitted with the movie and the scene. Still, it's sad to see Jack, Sam and the rest of the team leave.
- 03:13 miracleofsound yeah
- 03:13 miracleofsound i agree with everything you said there
- 03:13 miracleofsound it would have been nice to have jack finish what he began
- 03:14 miracleofsound but it feels like mansell is staying true to the heart of jack's work
- 03:14 miracleofsound I hope so anyway
- 03:14 miracleofsound I think the music will definitely be more organic sounding, and have a lot more piercing high frequency
- 03:14 miracleofsound but who knows, it may work
- 03:14 miracleofsound it certainly seemed awesome in the demo anyway
- 03:15 ME3News Indeed. The next question is: "What is your favourite store in the Citadel?"
- 03:15 miracleofsound All of them
- 03:15 ME3News I like the way your Shepard thinks.
- 03:15 miracleofsound But if I have to pick one...
- 03:16 miracleofsound The game shop
- 03:16 miracleofsound hehe
- 03:16 ME3News If Council Space's economy comes crashing down however, we will be the ones to blame.
- 03:16 miracleofsound That dude is frickin hilarious
- 03:16 miracleofsound yeah i know
- 03:16 miracleofsound but they blame us for everything anyway the assholes
- 03:16 miracleofsound
- 03:16 miracleofsound I love those little in-jokes bioware put inthier games
- 03:17 miracleofsound my favourite one was during shadow broker
- 03:17 miracleofsound when shepard and liara were hacking a door
- 03:17 miracleofsound 'remember when you could just slap omni gel on everything?'
- 03:17 miracleofsound 'yeah, that change pissed a lot of people off'
- 03:17 miracleofsound ... so good
- 03:17 ME3News Well, it did, didn't it.
- 03:17 miracleofsound bioware is a self aware AI!
- 03:17 miracleofsound lol
- 03:18 miracleofsound yeah it did
- 03:18 miracleofsound i dint mind too much myself
- 03:18 miracleofsound minigames never really float my boat anyway
- 03:18 miracleofsound like that excruciating lockpicking in oblivion - RAGE
- 03:18 miracleofsound they did it much better in fallout 3
- 03:19 ME3News Heh
- 03:19 ME3News The next one is
- 03:19 ME3News "Any chance you could convince someone at Bioware to sneek in 'Commander Shepard' as a captains quarters song choice? or would that make Shep sound too egotistical?"
- 03:19 miracleofsound ...and yet again gav rambles away from the topic
- 03:19 miracleofsound Dude
- 03:19 miracleofsound as I said
- 03:19 miracleofsound that would be a dream come true
- 03:19 miracleofsound and believe me, I'm trying
- 03:20 miracleofsound but I don't want to nag the poor guys so much tha I become annoying
- 03:20 miracleofsound there's a facebook petition with a thousand people on it
- 03:20 miracleofsound feel free to join it
- 03:21 miracleofsound But yeah. I don't know what's happening there. All I know is that is definitely possible
- 03:21 ME3News Well, I am sure that Casey and David are aware of it, I hope that they manage to get past any legal issues and include it. Maybe they would require you to sign some papers first.
- 03:21 miracleofsound if that even makes sense
- 03:21 miracleofsound yeah
- 03:21 ME3News Gamescom sounds like an excellent chance to make a move.
- 03:21 miracleofsound there's no legal issue form me, haha TAKE MY SONG BIOWARE
- 03:21 miracleofsound well, I would of course expect 50% of gorss profit from the game
- 03:21 ME3News I'll be quoting that for legal purposes
- 03:22 miracleofsound to buy a new pimp cane and crunk goblet
- 03:22 ME3News Haha
- 03:22 ME3News Last but not least
- 03:22 ME3News "I heard the Escapist is releasing an album of your work, will this include any new songs or just your current library?"
- 03:22 miracleofsound and a vorcha style grille
- 03:22 miracleofsound it's going to be all my songs that have been released so far
- 03:23 miracleofsound up until 'duke, you used to be cool'
- 03:23 miracleofsound so 15 in total
- 03:23 miracleofsound little sister, normandy and trip to vegas will have to wait till the next album
- 03:24 miracleofsound but i'll be releasing them soon on itunes and bandcamp.com
- 03:24 miracleofsound as singles
- 03:24 miracleofsound and free torrents
- 03:24 miracleofsound haha
- 03:24 ME3News hehe
- ME3News Well, that was all.
- 03:24 miracleofsound cool
- 03:24 miracleofsound some great questions there man
- 03:24 miracleofsound thanks!
- 03:24 miracleofsound did you start up this twitter account just as a fan?
- 03:25 ME3News I had to say that this chat exceeded my expectations a lot, thanks for agreeing to do it.
- 03:25 miracleofsound no problem at all, it was enjoyable for me
- 03:25 ME3News Yeah. I started with the Confirmed (now Known) Features thread and decided that we needed more accurate and up to date news on the MEverse.
- 03:25 miracleofsound it's cool how the bioware devs retweet you and stuff
- 03:25 miracleofsound aha
- 03:25 miracleofsound cool
- 03:26 miracleofsound well I hope that soon you'll be able to add my song to that confirmed list
- 03:26 ME3News They are definitely great, certainly makes you think of BioWare as a bunch of people and not a faceless corporation.
- 03:26 miracleofsound i'll be sure t let you know if it happens
- 03:26 ME3News Hehe, so do I.
- 03:26 miracleofsound yes
- 03:26 miracleofsound they are so good with thier fans
- 03:26 miracleofsound and between you and me
- 03:26 miracleofsound they're by far the best at it
