The First Time

The first time is like
Reaching out between dimensions,
Stretching out hands and feeling
With fingertips the silent curves
Beneath faded jeans.
It’s like seeing light bend in impossible ways,
An explosion of color in the sound of
Her ordering a latte,
The feeling of falling, right into her smile.
It’s a moment hanging in air and we’re both
Just watching it go.
A moment,
That look between breaths,
Space between words that is vast but we’re  close
Like laced fingers.
The first time hearing those words and
Only those words,
I love you.
