Gothic 1 Short Summary

THIS IS A COMPLETE SPOILER OF THE GAME.

-In the Valley Of Mines (where Gothic 1 takes place), convicted prisoners were sent to work at a magic ore mine.
-To make sure the prisoners don't escape, and to protect the mined ore from an evil God, the mages were given an order to create a magical barrier around the mines and a castle.
-The magic barrier was only a one-way trip. If you traveled inside the barrier, you could NEVER come back. The barrier was also made to be permanent, so It could never be removed.
-Something went wrong during the creation of the barrier, and instead of covering just the mines, the barrier grew extremely in size, and covered the entire Valley of Mines, as well as all the people who created it.
-Now lots of people are stuck forever inside the barrier, desperately trying to escape, but there's nothing they can do.
-Since the area was a prisoner colony, the prisoners knowing that they are cut off from the rest of the world started to rebel and shortly after took over the land.
-Everyone is trying to find a new way to live inside the barrier world, people form new groups, and new factions.
-Everyone has already given up on trying to escape the barrier, only the Water Mages are still working on figuring out what went wrong.
-One day YOU (the player), a convict, is thrown inside the barrier which now is a prison.
-A group of people on the swamp formed a cult and they worship a God named "The Sleeper", hoping he will help them.
-But after they have awaken him, it turns out he's not a good God but actually an ancient evil demon.
-A necromancer named Xardas figured out that The Sleeper is the reason why the barrier grew out of control, as the demon's presence made the barrier's magic unstable.
-He tells you that if you destroy the sleeper, the barrier might collapse.
-But to defeat The Sleeper, you need a sword that has the power of the magic ore, which is guarded by the Water Mages
-You steal the Water Mages' ore, and they don't like you for that, and then you kill the Sleeper.
-After the sleeper is dead, the barrier collapses and everyone is free
-That means the huge amounts of convicted Bandits are free too, and after the barrier is gone they storm into Khorinis.
