The easiest way to change your program icons individually, without any tools or software, is to edit a shortcut. What I recommend doing is navigating to the programs root directory, and creating the shortcut there so there is no confusion. Creating a shortcut also gives you the added bonus of naming it whatever you want, and even setting launch options. Right click on the Icon>Properties>Change Icon. Use your desired .ico file. -Making sure your taskbar is aligned properly, and slim as possible-

Ever install appows and notice the icons or the start orb seem to be a little misaligned? This is just a glitch with the taskbar that is easily solved by extending it. Unlock your task bar, and drag it to the top of your screen. You can do this by left clicking and holding the bar near the center, and moving it to the edges of the screen. Drag it to the top along the edges this way. Once its on top, hover over the middle of the bar near the bottom border until you see the resize option for height ↕. Drag it down, extending it to double the normal height. Move it back down to the bottom of your screen, then size it back down using the same ↕ option. Lock your task bar. You should be at the correct size and alignment now.

Fonts appearing to have a greenish tint or blurry in Firefox/Bblean/Windows? This is due to an acceleration error, probably caused by subpixel rendering or monospace fonts not being supported in smaller sizes. Windows Cleartype also causes issues with EVERY browser, and overall is complete shit compared to Linux or Mac/OSX font rendering. Read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ClearType for details on how it works. Consider switching fonts if none of the fixes below work for you, or try and get a version of your font that is NOT ".tff" or true type if you are on Windows.

In Firefox, type “about:config” in the address bar and hit Enter.

Continue after the warning.

In the Filter box at the top, type “gfx.direct2d.disabled”.  

This value will be set to “false” by default.

Right click that line and select “Toggle”.  This will change the value to “true”.

Restart Firefox.

 

Fonts in Bblean:

The only fixes I have found documented involve removing anti alias, or keeping cleartype enabled. Personally I've seen no font rendering issues with bblean, however its been reported.

 

Global font rendering fixes:

-Edit your font manually to remove cleartype from it completely.

!!!The best option in my opinion is to install Mactype or gdipp.!!!

This replaces windows cleartype font rendering with Mac/OSX and Linux font rendering.

What is 3DCC?

3DCC is a small tool which allows you complete control over your windows color schemes,

much more than available through the standard windows display preferences.

 

Installation:

 

  1. Put bbColor3dc.dll somewhere in the blackbox\plugins folder.

  2. Load it from the plugin-config menu, or add it's relative path

     to "plugins.rc".

 

To use 3DCC Themes with bblean, make a folder in your bblean/styles directory named "3dc".

Create a theme with the program, and save the file with the same name as your style.

For example, bb_crim.3dc to work alongside bb_crim.style

You can then apply the theme by loading your style via the bblean menu.

This only works well with windows classic as a visual style.

Note: The folder MUST be named "3dc" to work properly.

A: Install bblean as a shell.

 

Q: How do I remove taskbar/tray/status icons?

A: The easiest way is to shift+right click the icons on your bar.

 

Q: How to I hide these workspace names (alpha) and the taskbar arrows?

A: Edit your bbleanbar.rc and put a "#" infront of these lines:

Q: How do I remove the side bars/slits/analog clock (etc)?

A: Unload the plugins under your configuration. The names are self explanatory.

Alternatively, you can set them to autohide and adjust the sizes.

(settings>config>plugins>load/unload)  

(Restart blackbox after if the settings do not immediately apply.)

 

Q: My Volume keys on my keyboard stopped working when I installed bblean. Is there a fix?

A: Yes. Some kind anons found a good fix for it that works beautifully, but it involves some scripting with Auto Hot Key. If you are unfamiliar, see the window tiling/autohotkey section(12).

First, download NirCMD here:

Extract the exes to your Windows directory (C:\Windows).

Create or add the following lines to your Auto Hot Key Script:

 

Volume_Up::

run nircmd.exe changesysvolume 2000

return

Volume_Down::

run nircmd.exe changesysvolume -2000

return

Volume_Mute::

run nircmd.exe mutesysvolume 2

return

 

The same method with nircmd also applies to bbkeys. The code for bbkeys would look something like this:

KeyToGrab(Num9),  WithModifier(Win), WithAction(ExecCommand), DoThis(C:\Blackbox\usr\bin\nircmd\nircmd.exe changesysvolume -2000)

KeyToGrab(Num0),  WithModifier(Win), WithAction(ExecCommand), DoThis(C:\Blackbox\usr\bin\nircmd\nircmd.exe changesysvolume 2000)

 

Just edit the key you want to use for volume controls, save the .rc and restart blackbox. If you wanted to use the buttons or sliders on a media keyboard, use bbkeyhook to define them.

Thats it! Run the script and enjoy your volume keys again.

 

Q: How do I extend the width of my toolbar?

A: Ctrl+Right click>config>Width percent.

Alternatively, edit the bbleanbar.rc by selecting "Edit settings"

 

Q: How do I get rid of buttons/change my color scheme?

A: Unload/disable/uncheck/toggle bbleanskin under your configuration.

If you still want the skin enabled, do the following:

Put these in your Exclusions for firefox/nightly:

Q: My Rainmeter skin is overlapping with my bbleanbar, what do?

A: Change the width% of your bblean bar to match your skin. If you are using bb_bar, load

the background bar on "normal", and set the bb_bar to "topmost" via your rainmeter settings.

 

Q: I want a 12 hour clock.

A: Change your clock format to "%I:%M"

Q: BBleanbar wont extend to my other monitors screen. What do?

A: You need to add one bar for each screen. To do this, follow these steps:

Go to your bblean installation directory. Open the plugins folder, and find the bbLeanBar folder.

Copy + paste it in the plugins directory, and rename the folder to "bbleanbar2".

Visit Settings>Configuration>Plugins, and edit plugins.rc

Add the name of your new bar under the current bblean bar entry. It should look like this:

Q: Google Chrome is lagging/crashing on certain webpages ever since I started using Bblean. Whats going on?

A: This is a pretty widespread issue with Flash. I don't know why its so often reported/linked with Bblean, but the root of the problem is flash+Chrome. To fix this, navigate to:

chrome://plugins/ > click details > disable Shockwave Flash 11.5 r31

Make sure you disable the correct version.

If you plan on using this alongside bblean, I recommend disabling taskbar detection, chances are it will cause errors. The multiple desktops or the "workspace" functionality is already included in bblean. While VirtuaWin functions much the same way, you can add more specific window rules for better functionality overall. Virtuawin also respects current program placements, like rainmeter and other widgets you might have on the desktop. The addition of the Rainmeter VirtuaWin plugin also allows for much more customizable and personalized user interface.

Launchy uses keystrokes to find and launch programs/files it indexes. The website asks for payment/donation, but it's free. Skins available on the website, and DeviantArt. Highly recommended.

 

-Executor-

An alternative to Launchy, this index keystroke/keyword search program appears a bit more featureful. You can customize keywords for individual programs using drag and drop, and sort them into groups. Like Launchy, it is also very skinnable and there is a starter guide on the website.

 

-Rocket Dock-

One of the older and more well known docks. Probably the best alternative to Docky for Windows users. Features listed on the website.

XWidget is more of a platform for customizing widgets and addons to your desktop, like clocks and weather.

XLaunchpad allows you to organize icons and shortcuts on your desktop in stacks, similar to App folders on an Android interface. XLaunchpad is probably the best option for users on a touch screen.

You can contact some lurkers and frequent posters on irc.rizon.net - /list will give you a list of channels. There are some common sense channels you can join such as #4chan, #/a/, #/v/, and #/jp/; however each channel has their own sub culture and specific rules. Don't take it personally if you get kicked, banned, or muted in a channel when you're new. Some channels are also private (unlisted) or passworded. You probably shouldn't try joining a channel you know no one in. For more irc basics and commands, please use www.google.com. I don't mind answering stupid questions all the time, so you can message me (xDemonessx). I'm on 24/7, though I may not always be at the computer I will respond eventually. Steam skins are made up of .style stylesheets (similar to css) and .tga images. Editing the colors and fonts is done through the style sheets, some buttons and icons require you to edit an image in a proper format. Be aware, skins tend to break often with updates and you may need to patch it yourself.
