Touhouventure 7.K

[22:44]	GM-Mizi	[Third day. Kai is still at Marisa's hut, learning magic. He just did the water divination test and know his 'type', so Marisa set the basic training curriculum for him. Right now, he have to run magic through the leaf on the water, trying to steer it to the way he want. The small river near Marisa's place proves to be challenging, since the water is constantly flowing downwards.]
[22:45]	GM-Mizi	[Marisa herself is around with a cauldron and bunch of obscure ingredients. Guess she moves her stuff out here to work outdoors in order to watch him.]
[22:46]	Kai	occasionally tries making jedi gestures at passing leaves half joking, half serious.
[22:46]	Marisa	[the leave flows down the river anyway, as if to mock his attempts.]
[22:47]	Kai	. o O ( Yup, not that easy. Oh well. )
[22:48]	Marisa	"Never gonna give you up♪ Never gonna let you down♪"
[22:48]	Marisa	"Never gonna turn around ♪ and desert you♪"
[22:48]	Kai	stops and turns to Marisa.
[22:48]	Kai	How do you know that song?
[22:49]	Marisa	"Hm? Oh. Kourin gave me something called a record player."
[22:49]	Marisa	"That song is in the black disc."
[22:49]	Marisa	"It sorta stuck in my head, so yeah."
[22:53]	Kai	If he really has stuff from the outside, I should visit him sometime...
[22:53]	Kai	Might be something useful there.
[22:54]	Marisa	"Usually it's just junk."
[22:54]	Marisa	shrugs.
[22:54]	Kai	shrugs as well.
[22:54]	Kai	Alright.
[22:54]	Marisa	"Anyway, how you doin' with the training?"
[22:54]	Kai	looks at the river.
[22:55]	Marisa	drops her giga-spatula in the cauldron and walk over to take a look.
[22:55]	Kai	Nothing so far, but maybe that's because I wasn't being 100% serious...
[22:55]	Kai	make another jedi-jesture at a passing leaf.
[22:56]	Marisa	[it says 'screw you', spins once, and goes down the river even faster.]
[22:57]	Kai	Yeah... I don't really know what I'm doing, though tthis is actually pretty exciting.
[22:58]	Marisa	"Actually, you still don't grasp the basics of the basics of manipulation magic."
[22:58]	Marisa	"I have that same kind of potion you drank, but weaker. Here."
[22:58]	Marisa	hand him another green vial.
[22:59]	Marisa	"You should be able to see the mana thread if it's dense enough."
[23:01]	Kai	uncorks it.
[23:01]	Kai	It's really handy that you have all of these potions.
[23:02]	Kai	drinks it.
[23:02]	Marisa	"They don't call me 'alchemy meister" (self-proclaimed) for nothing!"
[23:03]	Marisa	"Now, try to tether your mana from left hand to right hand, and right hand to left."
[23:04]	Marisa	"You will probably be able to get the mana thread out but it will fly everywhere. Focus is the key here, ze."
[23:04]	Kai	alright...
[23:04]	Marisa	"Keep trying. Maybe do something funny with it."
[23:04]	Marisa	pats his shoulder.
[23:04]	Kai	takes a deep breath and focuses, trying to imagine energy flowing back and forth from palm to palm. He doesn't see anything quite yet, but...
[23:04]	Marisa	"I'll be over there. Call me when you're ready."
[23:05]	Kai	Thanks.
[23:08]	Marisa	[a small, weaksauce-looking thread pops from your hand. It shoots past Kai's face with the speed of a cheetah into god-knows-where. Looks like he'll have to start by controlling this unstable power...]
[23:11]	Kai	closes his eyes and keeps on trying to focus, bringing himself as close to meditation as he can. Every so often he opens his eyes to gauge his progress.
[23:14]	Marisa	continue to hums her music while brewing potion.
[23:15]	Kai	's mana thread remains unstable at first and arcs out to nearby plants like lightning, but after a time it whips around less and less until it almost goes straight from palm to palm.
[23:18]	Kai	calls out to Marisa after watching it stabilize.
[23:18]	Kai	... I think I've got it.
[23:18]	Kai	Maybe?
[23:19]	Kai	/me keeps on staring at the thread, concentrating as much as he can to keep it from going out of control again.
[23:19]	Marisa	"Oh? Lesseelessee."
[23:20]	Marisa	trots over.
[23:20]	Marisa	"ohhhhhh. It stabilized. Not bad for a couple hours' effort!"
[23:21]	Kai	's grin mixes disbelief and pride.
[23:22]	Kai	That was a couple hours?
[23:22]	Marisa	"Yeah."
[23:22]	Marisa	"So, basic of manipulating. Kinetic manipulation!"
[23:22]	Marisa	"Look!"
[23:23]	Marisa	sparks the magical power between her hands. It's WAY BIGGER than Kai's.
[23:23]	Marisa	"Think of it like homing gum!"
[23:24]	Marisa	aims a bit and shoot the thread's end at her broom, which the broom shoots the thread at her in turn. It links up, and the broom drags itself into Marisa's hand!
[23:24]	Marisa	"Theeeeere we go!"
[23:25]	Marisa	spins her broom around.
[23:25]	Kai	Wow.
[23:25]	Kai	is a bit humbled by the strength of her spark.
[23:25]	Marisa	"See how I use it? I tether it to another object like gum, and pull it over. The broom follows my tether by shooting magic to link it.  It's because I know the magic signature of the broom, so I can do it without seeing the target."
[23:26]	Marisa	"I'm not really good at this, but I can at least teach you this much!"
[23:26]	Marisa	"it can also being used in reverse---"
[23:27]	Marisa	fires the broom at the tree. it embeds itself into the wood.
[23:27]	Marisa	"---like this!"
[23:27]	Kai	Jeez.
[23:28]	Marisa	"Now try to push and pull some stuff like how I demonstrated."
[23:29]	Marisa	"If you can do this, I can say that you can 'manipulate object' at a beginner rank."
[23:29]	Kai	nods.
[23:29]	Kai	Alright.
[23:29]	Marisa	"Just don't knock my cauldron over, ze!"
[23:29]	Marisa	waves happily and go on with her brewing antics.
[23:30]	Kai	If I could do that, I'd be impressed.
[23:30]	Kai	continues breathing deeply, focusing on a nearby stick on the ground. Since it isn't already moving, it might be a bit easier to move?
[23:32]	Kai	slowly moves his hands forward, with his right palm pointing straight at the stick and his left pointing at his right. The awkward angle between the three forces him to refocus the stream for a while but eventually it stabilizes again and contacts the stick.
[23:33]	Marisa	[it sticks, but Kai's impression of 'magic gum' is too strong and the stick flies into his face!]
[23:33]	Marisa	\WHACK!/
[23:34]	Kai	Ow!
[23:34]	Kai	recoils slightly and rubs his face where it struck. He chuckles a bit.
[23:36]	Kai	Uh, got it.
[23:36]	Marisa	"That happens a lot. Don't worry!"
[23:36]	Marisa	yells from down the riverbank.
[23:37]	Kai	Keep on trying with this?
[23:37]	Marisa	"Yeah!"
[23:38]	Kai	Kaay!
[23:38]	Marisa	"If you did okay, you should be able to make them fly around!"
[23:39]	Kai	stands up and looks around, find another stick, and copies his arms' stance to try and see if he can make it hover...
[23:41]	Kai	manages to stabilize the stream a bit faster this time but is careful to aim slightly to the side of the stick, "throttle down" its power, and then target it.
[23:43]	Marisa	[it wobbles. Just that. The tether is not strong enough.]
[23:44]	Kai	tries slowly increasing its power. In the midst of this, though, a stray thought wanders through his mind.
[23:44]	Kai	. o O ( I'm /actually/ doing this! )
[23:44]	Kai	suppresses a chuckle but loses focus.
[23:44]	Marisa	[and it flies at his nose again.]
[23:44]	Kai	-Gah!
[23:45]	Marisa	"Y'know, I think Alice is better than me in this category."
[23:45]	Kai	rubs his face again and laughs.
[23:45]	Marisa	"Maybe you can ask her for pointers when you meet her again."
[23:45]	Kai	calms down soon enough.
[23:45]	Kai	Yeah, that might be helpful..
[23:48]	Kai	It would be really cool to pick up water like this.
[23:48]	Kai	looks to the stream.
[23:48]	Marisa	[in the end, this is not something to be able to master in a matter of days. Night falls, and Kai is forced to stop since there's no light. Marisa finished her thing and went back inside with him.]
[23:49]	Kai	keeps on trying to mess with small things inside the house, a smile on his face all the while. Occasionally he's successful.
[23:50]	Marisa	's house is already a mess, though. But Marisa keep telling him to put stuff where it was. Probably her own system of storing things.
[23:53]	Marisa	[Supper is served. Marisa already had her sandwich since lunchtime, but not Kai. And this counts as lunchinner for him. It's a looooong french bread with corn soup.]
[23:55]	Kai	devours the meal unabashedly.
[23:55]	Marisa	"Hahaha! hungry?"
[23:56]	Kai	slows down a bit.
[23:56]	Marisa	"Understandable. You are using magical energy from within you."
[23:56]	Kai	I'm really weird in that I can subsist off of fun or entertainment sometimes.
[23:56]	Marisa	sits across the table, nibbing the bread.
[23:56]	Kai	But yeah, that makes total sense.
[23:57]	Kai	breaks off large pieces and soaks them in the soup before eating them, then using extra bits to wipe the bowl clean as the first inevitably disappears.
[23:58]	Marisa	"refill?"
[23:58]	Kai	nods.
[23:58]	Marisa	stifles her giggling.
[23:58]	Kai	Please!
[23:58]	Marisa	"At this rate I'm going to go bankrupt feeding you!"
[23:59]	Marisa	refills.
[23:59]	Kai	ahah, sorry about that...
[23:59]	Kai	If you want I could handle some chores or something. It's only fair, and I don't want to impose.
[23:59]	Kai	eats his second bowl at a far more reasonable pace.
[00:00]	Marisa	"I'd like it if you could help me carry potions to the village. I often make some curatives and trade them for food and supplies."
[00:00]	Kai	Sounds good to me.
[00:01]	Marisa	trots over and sit besides him, asking;
[00:01]	Marisa	"So how's life? So far so good?"
[00:02]	Kai	Definitely, I'd say. Everything was going pretty well in the Outside, and I actually dreamed of stumbling into a magical land like this when I was a kid.
[00:02]	Kai	and by "kid", I mean 12, 13, 14.
[00:02]	Kai	15, even? I think so.
[00:02]	Marisa	"Magical enough for you, I guess!"
[00:02]	Marisa	laughs.
[00:04]	Kai	has a little worry nag at his mind but pushes it aside for the time being.
[00:04]	Marisa	"It's fun teaching you, really."
[00:04]	Marisa	"Good thing is, you don't doubt a thing."
[00:04]	Marisa	"That makes you easier to get a hang of it."
[00:05]	Marisa	"And the house is way more livelier, too!"
[00:05]	Kai	Thanks!
[00:06]	Marisa	"People drop by sometimes, but they go on with their business and never stick around."
[00:06]	Kai	It's a total blast learning, though I can't do too much yet. I figure anything's possible, though.
[00:06]	Kai	Always have.
[00:06]	Marisa	"Sleeping alone is sort of... not really fun."
[00:07]	Marisa	's expression is different when she say this, but soon swing back to her usual cheery self.
[00:07]	Kai	thump. o O ( Uh, hm. )
[00:07]	Marisa	"Don't worry! I'll train you good, my man!"
[00:07]	Marisa	slaps his back.
[00:07]	Marisa	"Won't be as good as me, but good nonetheless!"
[00:07]	Marisa	"Wahaha!"
[00:07]	Marisa	laughs.
[00:07]	Kai	Thanks again.
[00:07]	Kai	smiles.
[00:08]	Kai	Hopefully I'll be able to catch up to you in time.
[00:08]	Kai	A duel would be fun, maybe.
[00:08]	Marisa	"Tough luck! No one can catch up to this genius!"
[00:09]	Marisa	"And, oh, since you are my disciple... do the dishes, please!"
[00:09]	Marisa	haw haw
[00:09]	Kai	Sure, sure.
[00:09]	Kai	stands up and collects the dishes, then heading into the kitchen.
[00:09]	Kai	calls out from washing:
[00:09]	Kai	It'll take a while, but I'll train to eventually!
[00:12]	Marisa	smiles.
[00:12]	Kai	handles them quickly enough. No matter the tech level, cleaning dishes isn't a complex task.
[00:12]	Marisa	{"I won't mind... if you take a long time."}
[00:13]	Kai	keeps scrubbing for a moment before re-entering the dining room.
[00:14]	Kai	Yeah, living alone sucks. I know what it's like.
[00:14]	Marisa	"Haha, yeah."
[00:17]	Marisa	[Night falls. Marisa went back to her room upstairs, leaving Kai at the first floor with his current companion, the couch.]
[00:18]	Kai	sits back, mulling over various things.
[00:20]	Kai	soliloquizes to himself, whispering some thoughts, only thinking others.
[00:20]	Kai	Man, this place is amazing.
[00:20]	Kai	That said, though...
[00:21]	Kai	turns on his phone for a brief moment and checks the date... Two days since the hike, soon enough to be three.
[00:21]	Kai	Dammit, there are probably search parties out there, now...
[00:24]	Kai	I need to get a message out to my family somehow.
[00:25]	Kai	stares at the now off phone before pocketing it again.
[00:25]	Kai	"I'm fine, no really; don't go looking for me"?
[00:25]	Kai	No...
[00:27]	Kai	mulls over several more "messages in a bottle" before deciding it'll take more than a night.
[00:28]	Kai	... I should get some air.
[00:30]	Kai	sneaks his way outside, quietly shutting the door behind him. He strolls a short distance away and sits down, trying to meditate and move verious sticks and leaves.
[00:31]	Marisa	"Sigh..."
[00:33]	Marisa	is on the roof, staring at the night's sky. There's no clouds tonight, and the sky is so clear you can even see the milky way from here.
[00:35]	Kai	imagines a couple exercises to do in the future but eventually gets distracted by the same view.
[00:35]	Kai	. o O ( Man, /nothing/ like this view is available back home... )
[00:35]	Marisa	twiddles her finger a bit. Small stars sprinkle from her finger, and soon disappear in the darkness of the night.
[00:36]	Marisa	is inevitably being illuminated by it.
[00:37]	Kai	takes in the whole sky and catches Marisa's light out of the corner of his eye. o O ( ... Marisa? )
[00:37]	Kai	stares for a short time to try and ensure it's her.
[00:37]	Marisa	sighs again. She look very downcast, for some reason.
[00:38]	Marisa	"Being like this... made me remember..."
[00:38]	Marisa	"I'm remembering it again..."
[00:39]	Marisa	hugs ler legs.
[00:39]	Marisa	"I should be fine, but..."
[00:39]	Marisa	"Why is it... so lonely...?"
[00:40]	Kai	tilts his head to the side, catching only the slightest bits. Mostly, the tone carries.
[00:40]	Kai	calls out.
[00:40]	Kai	... Marisa?
[00:42]	Marisa	"Ah-"
[00:42]	Marisa	is startled!
[00:42]	Marisa	"wawawa-"
[00:42]	Marisa	"What?! Why are you out here?!"
[00:42]	Kai	I couldn't sleep!
[00:43]	Kai	... Couldn't sleep either?
[00:43]	Kai	wonders why Marisa is up.
[00:44]	Kai	literally.
[00:44]	Marisa	"W-Well, yeah. Like that."
[00:44]	Marisa	"Stargazing and stuff."
[00:47]	Marisa	"You should be sleeping, though. There's a lot to do tomorrow!"
[00:47]	Kai	Yeah, probably.
[00:47]	Kai	yawns.
[00:47]	Marisa	"Goodnight."
[00:47]	Marisa	waves.
[00:47]	Kai	Goodnight!
[00:47]	Kai	waves back and heads inside.
[00:47]	Marisa	slips back into her room through the window.
[00:51]	Kai	lies back down and covers up but can't help having a few sleeping curiosities...
[00:52]	Kai	. o O ( ... I wonder what that was about. I didn't catch much, but now that I think about it... )
[00:52]	Kai	. o O ( If she's really that young, where are her parents? )
[00:53]	Kai	. o O ( Then again, she could simply appear really young; after all I'd have to imagine that someone would object to a young lady living in a probably youkai-ridden forest on her own. )
[00:53]	Kai	. o O ( I dunno... )
[00:53]	Kai	yawns and soon drifts off to sleep.
[00:53]	Marisa	[And sleep pulls him deeper, so he could rest to take on tomorrow.]
