  1. 808 watched as the smoke billowed up from Fireside Plaza. Flashes of light danced between buildings, making the city look like some sort of technical light show from a distance rather than the bloody war zone it was becoming. 808 watched a missile soar across the skyline, hitting the Stark Consolidated building at just below the tip, right next to the sky bridge. Logan watched as the fire burned bright, so bright that even from the distance he sat at, watching over Fireside at Stark's Mountain Mansion, he could see it spread quickly throughout the floors, and within seconds the skybridge crumpled and fell into the streets below, with the rest of Stark Consolidated sure to follow. Logan turned away, not interested in watching his world crumble.
  2.
  3. Eli sat behind him, in a pool chair watching the moon's reflection dance along the pool water. He sat in stunned silence, incapable of processing what he just witnessed. His armor lied in charred ruins around him, leaving him sitting in just a plain white and some combat pants.
  4.
  5. "So, you still happy to have been Operation Schools pawn all these years." 808 said, looking at the back of Eli's head.
  6.
  7. "If I had known what Boyd was planning-"
  8.
  9. "But you didn't, and now he controls the most powerful military force on the planet." 808 shot back, not even letting Eli finish.
  10.
  11. "And how was I supposed to know that! How was I supposed to know he'd try and make us all destroy the world we worked so hard to protect!" Eli shouted at the masked hero.
  12.
  13. "He didn't try." 808 said calmly, nodding to the burning city against his back. Eli's face morphed from anger to sadness as he calmed himself, stamping the dirt in frustration. "I didn't expect a child to understand what was happening either."
  14.
  15. "I'm not a child." Eli retorted.
  16.
  17. "No, but you were. You don't think four years of conscription, starting when you were just eleven years old, wouldn't have made you and all your peers succeptible too him and his madness? Too his promises of grand social reform? A more secure world? I spent the last four years actually stopping crime, fighting hundreds of villains making our world more and more corrupt with each passing day. And sure, Boyd deployed you where he needed you. Take down a private military or two, maybe assassinate a 'corrupt' CEO somewhere, you personally even saved the world a few times." 808 ranted, stepping towards Eli, he watched cautiously as Eli balled his fists, prepared for a fight. Even 808 wasn't stupid enough to get into a one on one brawl with the most successful super soldier in the world, even if he was just fifteen. "But you know what I did? I got to watch the fruits of Boyd's ignorance. You, Operation School, were promised to be a police force. To protect the people because we didn't have any protection. The Undead Wars and the Civil war ensured that for us. Did they teach you about them? Do you know any of Firesides history? How it was founded on the ideal of being a safe and perfect society?" 808 asked tauntingly, now just inches from Eli's face.
  18.
  19. "Yes." Eli muttered, 808 saw him beginning to shake.
  20.
  21. "Do you know what two days stand out too me as the days I realized Fireside had no interest in being that society?"
  22.
  23. "W-what." Eli asked, a noticeable stutter in the boy's voice. For years 808 had waited for this moment, the moment the hunted got the upper hand on his hunter.
  24.
  25. "The day my older sister was murdered, and the day Lee Culiopi turned Marcer, my town, into a sinkhole. And you know who wasn't there to save my sister? Anyone, not even me. But do you know who wasn't there to stop Culiopi? Do you know who was being relegated to taking down a Private Military Company, with no just cause, and leaving the domestic terrorist to a couple of rag-tag vigilantes? Operation School. And then you have the gall to hunt me, to try to stop me, to put me in isolation because I don't agree with your Government or their plans. And you know what that got you?" 808 asked.
  26.
  27. "What." Eli said, frustration in his voice as he sprayed the word through gritted teeth. 808 grabbed his head, and before the boy could even react he tossed him towards the edge of the pool decks balcony, looking over Fireside City. Eli hit the pavement hard, and took a moment to recollect himself from the shock of it all as 808 simply said...
  28.
  29. "This."
  30.
  31. And then 808 and Eli watched, as the Stark Consolidated building collapsed to the ground and turned Fireside city into a massive cloud of dust and flashing lights.
