  1. So, not sure how many people are aware of this now so I am going to post it.
  2.
  3. Attacking blue portals with shields and Mods is not as difficult as it seems anymore. The secret to destroying the shields without getting zapped is to stay 10m away from the portal per level of XMP being used in order to avoid the Mods attacking back.
  4.
  5. So, if you use L6 XMPs, stay back at least 60m from the portal. Using L8s, stay at least 80m from the portal, etc. You can use the targeting to see exactly how far away you are.
  6.
  7. Once the shields and Mods are taken out, it is as easy as it used to be to take out the resos.
  8.
  9. This has been tested and proven to work. It also helps if you are not alone, as the more Agents working together definitely makes it much easier (and less costly) for all.
  10.
  11. Now, GO GET 'EM Enlightened Agents!!!!

  13.
  14. Doesn't it do less damage the further away from the portal you are? Would it work just as well throwing a bunch of low lvl xmp at it while right on top?

  21. +Paul Cook - No, if you are on top of it you will have your XM drained...and rather quickly if the Mods are upgraded.
  22. And yes, less damage is done to the resos at a distance, but you are not trying to damage the resos (as you can't with the shields protecting them), you are trying to pop the shields. Trust me, this is the most effective method to attack a highly Modded portal.

  30. Good tip, I've been noticing that in the past week. Especially last night downtown denver, I almost felt like my xmps were making a difference!

  37. Paul, I've not found that method to be very effective recently. You've got to get rid of the mods first, then you can move in old school style:)
  38. Scott, thanks for the tip on 10m per xmp level.

  42. Actually, there's a better way in my opinion. 1st, burn off all your XM. Yup, you heard me right. Now gradually approach the XM cloud of any portal. As soon as you have enough XM to fire an XMP, do it. Doesn't matter if you take 10 damage or 10,000. You don't have it to give the portal! Advance slowly until you've got XM for your next XMP fire and repeat. This works best in parks were you can loop, taking advantage of XM recharging. I took out 25 L7 portals this morning without using a single pube.
  43.
  44. With this approach you don't even need to know or care what mods a portal has. Just keep beating away at it, one XMP at a time. It only took me 2-3 loops each of Mission Viejo Park and Southlands to take 'em all out; most had R and VR shields.
  45.
  46. Also, links still deliver the most significant attack resistance IMO. Take out the CF "anchor" for an area first.

  51. I use to do this as well Jeff, but with XM regeneration so flaky; it's hard to justify now. It will be 20 minutes before you have xm regen enough to build a portal to a level that will consistently regenerate xm. And even then it is questionable if there will be enough xm to continue to rebuild once you've destroy. At least that's how it is in downtown golden, I didn't notice nor have to care about XM in downtown denver. so it may also depend on xm availability.
  52. I agree with the links and fields those were the hardest to take down but once they went down portals were much easier to take out.

  57. Never had an issue +Bored AsHellion. I'm consistently seeing regen in 5-10 minutes. Faster than I can make a round. I'm also a solo player so that quite possibly helps.

  61. I also have zero interest in rebuilding. I slap an 8 reso on the portal and call it done. I'm all about the smashy!

  68. LMAO! That's awesome, need to drop a 7 at least too, so two other 8s can have a chance of making a L7 out of it though!
  69.
  70. I'm normally solo playing too, but filling out the entire portal with highest resos, drains significantly...might be my problem i guess.

  85. I know, wish we could just down grade resos (maybe we need to mention to +BB) so if i have 500 L8 resos I could just use those as L1-L7 resos instead...i wouldn't even mind having to go in and convert each individually to have that ability. seems like it would make legit game sense too!

  90. +Jeff Karpinski I think the best attack technique would be a combination of both methods. Especially on dense farms.
  91.
  92. At the last HR L8 farm we used the technique you mention, walking and attacking while picking up XM. It is very effective, especially once portals are weaker.
  93. And I agree 100% on the taking out highly-linked (and Modded) portals first, as we used virus's to flip a few of them.
  94.
  95. But in a highly dense portal farm the XM is less dense due to overlap. So the added advantage of not getting zapped at all is even more beneficial, especially when you have multiple Agents. So, taking out Mods with the technique I mentioned is very helpful. Why get zapped if you can avoid it?
  96.
  97. You and I are of the same breed when it comes to smashing, we just blast the shit out of the portals til they're all gone! And it makes us feel all tingly inside!
  98. Using the techniques we both describe makes for a very effective attack strategy.

  103. +Bored AsHellion single 8 reso is OK since a p7 can be 88877666.
  104.
  105. And completely agree being able to break resos into smaller ones. I hack l1 for resos sometimes. Which is fine until I hack a l1 pubes. So disappointing...

  113. My problem with the mod attack method is I don't stock low level bursters so I've got a high xm cost for deployment anyway. I also don't care for the randomness of mod destruction - I've frequently seen shields hang on to the bitter end.
