  1. >*Knock knock knock*
  2. >Your eyes crack open, the only light coming from the dim glow of your decorated tree.
  3. >*Know knock knock*
  4. >The pounding coming from your front door sounds again.
  5. >Lifting yourself up and off the couch, your head pounding, you pick up the almost empty bottle of AJ Daniels and quickly take another gulp of the little that’s left in hope to stop the pounding.
  6. >Unfortunately for you, it does little to help.
  7. >Standing up on your feet, you make your way towards you kitchen, hoping to find a little more somewhere that you might have had left over from your last drinking session with Dash.
  8. >The pounding on the door once again repeats, causing you headache to surge back to what it was.
  9. >How long will it take whoever the hell is out there to figure out you weren’t going to answer.
  10. >Really, the past two years you’ve done the same thing every time, lock yourself in your house and wallow in your sorrows, reminiscing on your past life back on Earth and your family and friends.
  11. >For the most part, you keep that to yourself and really keep it in the back of your mind.
  12. >But really, Christmas tends to be one of the few things you cling to from Earth customs, especially since Hearths Warming Eve is somewhat close to it.
  13. >Plus, sometimes it’s just nice to wallow.
  14. >You rummage through your cabinets, finding half a bottle.
  15. >Taking it you move back to the living room to sit and relax in front of the tree.
  16. >Another few pounds on your door and you’re tired of this shit.
  17. “Fuck off!” you yell towards the front entrance.
  18. >”Is that how you treat your bros?” the pony from the other side of the door shouts back.
  19. >Wait, is that who you think it is?
  20.
  21. >”Get over here and let me in you jerk! It’s freezing out here!”
  22. >A quick glance over at the window and you can see what she means.
  23. >The snow is just pouring down, the wind not making it any better, the snow being whipped around in all directions.
  24. >Really, why the hell would she come here? Of all the nights to pick to come over and hang out…
  25. >Setting the bottle down on the table with a small ‘clink’, you slowly move to the door and open it to find the Rainbow mane’d pegasus standing outside with a small, stupid grin on her face.
  26. “Dude, just go home, not in the mood for guests tonight,” you tell her as you start to shut the door before her hoof blocks it and keeps it open.
  27. >”Really? You’re going to send me back out in this?” she asks nodding behind her at the raging snowstorm.
  28. >Opening the door a little bit to see her.
  29. “How’d you get here in the first place than?”
  30. >”I barely got here, kinda by luck,” she says with a small chuckle, her hoof rubbing behind her head.
  31. >You open the door to let her in, even if you’re kind of annoyed that she’s intruding on your personal time.
  32. >Dash walks in through your door and gives a little shake, water droplets and small bits of snow falling on the floor.
  33. >You’ll clean that shit up later.
  34. >”Burr, it’s cold out there…”
  35. “Yeah, and I don’t know why the hell you came here, but lemmie get you a towel or something,” you call over your shoulder heading towards your bathroom.
  36. >Once you get back, you see she’s already made her way over towards your tree and is hovering near the top, really close to your Christmas star.
  37. >”Hey Anon, what’s up with this star?” she asks poking at it.
  38. “Dude, get the hell away from that!” you shout at her seeing the star start to wobble a little.
  39. >She flutters back down to the ground and trots over to you grabbing the towel out of your hand.
  40.
  41. >”Chill Anon, I wasn’t going to break it, just wanted to see what it was made of so I gave it a little tap.”
  42. >With a quick rubdown, she’s mostly dry.
  43. >”What’s up with you getting all defensive over that thing?” she asks while flopping down on the couch.
  44. “None of your business is what,” you plop down next to her, a little annoyed about her nonchalant attitude about messing with your stuff.
  45. >Scooting closer to you, she gives you a smile and a small poke in your side.
  46. >”Come on Anon, you can tell me,” she puts on a little sugar to her voice.
  47. >You let out a small sigh as you grab the half full bottle and take another swig and set to down.
  48. “Bro, it’s just something that I really don’t like to talk about. Something that I’d rather not think about most of the time, which is one of the reasons why I don’t like to hang out with anyone around now.”
  49. >She lets out an aggravated sigh.
  50. “Want to tell me why the hell you came over tonight to bug me? You know I like to be by myself during Hearths Warming Eve.”
  51. >”You mean Christmas, right? Isn’t that what you said they called it back on Eurath?” she asks with one eyebrow raised.
  52. “It’s Earth, and yeah. But why aren’t you with your family?” you ask trying to divert her attention away from you and your past.
  53. >She shifts back, her back leaning on the arm on the couch as her eyes roll.
  54. >”Welllll, usually it’s just me and my dad for Hearths Warming, and this year he came over instead of me going to Cloudsdale.”
  55. >You nod to show that you’re paying attention as you take another hit off of the bottle and pass it to her, Rainbow doing the same.
  56. >”So we were there and he was asking me some questions about you-“
  57. “Wait, why does he know about me?” you ask cutting her off.
  58.
  59. >You don’t really catch it in the low light, but a very faint blush creeps onto her cheeks.
  60. >”Well, you know… You’re awesome and my bro, so sometimes you come up in conversation,”
  61. “What kind of questions?”
  62. >”Oh you know, dumb stuff like how you’re doing and what you’re up to and why I didn’t invite you over or whatever…”
  63. >Wait, her dad wanted you over there?
  64. “Why’d your dad want me to come over for Hearths Warming Eve?”
  65. >You could have sworn that was really only for families and people who were really close.
  66. >Not that you and your bro weren’t close.
  67. >”Oh well, hehe… He thought maybe because you really didn’t have anyone to spend it with, we could hang out with you,” she scratches the back of her head again, her cheeks getting a little more warm and red.
  68. >Makes sense.
  69. “Well that’s pretty cool of him, probably would have declined, but still…” you say with a shrug.
  70. >She just nods and a small silence falls over the two of you as you just sit there and look at the tree.
  71. >”So what’s up with you and being so mysterious and weird about Christmas?”
  72. >You let out a small sigh.
  73. “Sometimes you just don’t want to let out your feelings on friends because it might just be a burden,” you say hoping that’ll keep her at bay from asking anything else.
  74. >Shifting positions again, she leans towards you, her fore-hooves right next to your leg.
  75. >”I’m all ears! I promise it’ll be fine. It’d be cool to hear about your past, you don’t really talk about it much,” she says flicking her ears on the top of her head for emphasis.
  76. >You let out another sigh.
  77.
  78. “You just wouldn’t understand Dash, I’ve seriously lost every single person who was close to me. You really wouldn’t get it. That’s why I keep it to myself.”
  79. >Her ears flatten to her head, annoyance dawning the usually laid back and happy face.
  80. >”Stop being such a jerk about this Anon, you gotta talk about it sometime or else you’ll just drive yourself crazy…”
  81. >She points to the star at the top of the tree.
  82. >”Tell me about that. Seemed pretty important,” she says pointing to the star.
  83. >Jesus, why the hell did you let her in the house.
  84. “You really want to know why I got so defensive about it? Because the stuff on that tree is pretty much the last bit of memory I have of my family back home. You have it easy, you can just go visit your family whenever you fucking want. I won’t ever fucking see them again and her you are, prying into me, trying to get me to constantly bring up something that sucks to think about!”
  85. >With that she pulls back a little, her eyebrows scrunching together.
  86. >”Well maybe you should just talk about it!” she says giving you a small push. “Maybe it might be good to just reminisce about what fun you did have with them instead of thinking about nothing but how you won’t see them! How the hell do you think I feel about not being able to see my mom anymore!?” she yells at you with another, stronger shove.
  87. >”I’m not a baby about it! I don’t just sit around a mope! I think about the good times I had with her, not what I don’t get to have! Maybe you should learn to do the same!”
  88.
  89. >Dash moves back to her end of the couch, her forelegs crossed over her chest and lets out a small huff turning away from you.
  90. >”Fine, you want to know? That star was a Christmas present from my family to me on the first Christmas that I lived on my own! They wanted me to have it so it could be like I was at home! It makes me feel like I’m back home! That’s why every year I put up my tree and all the ornaments that were given to me when I lived with them, I do it just to remember my family and the things we did together…” you let out a huff, almost feeling like a weight was lifted off of you by just saying that.
  91. >”See, was that really that hard Anon?” she asks, her forelegs un-crossing.
  92. “Yeah, yeah it was.”
  93. >She moves in a little closer again.
  94. >”So, you ready to share a little bit about living on Eurath?”
  95. “What do you want to know? Also, it’s Earth.”
  96. >”Lemmie hear about something funny, something fun. It always helps me feel a little better,” she says, her small smile creeping back on to her face.
  97. “Hmm…” you sit and think for a second of something funny that happened on Christmas.
  98. “Got it…” you say as she moves even closer to you.
  99. >You and Dash spend the next few hours sharing stories about those you lost, taking turns laughing and talking. It feels so good to finally talk to someone about this and you wouldn’t have even guessed Dash would be willing to talk about stuff like this.
  100. >She cuts off one of your stories.
  101. >”Hold on one sec, gotta use the little fillies room,” she says with a small laugh as she gets up and trots towards the bathroom.
  102.
  103. >You just sit there for a minute basking in the feeling of letting out all your sorrow and repressed feelings about missing your family. It just feels cleansing.
  104. >Who knows, maybe the two of you could get together every year and do this.
  105. >That’s if she wants to.
  106. >Trotting back in, she sits down a little closer to you, practically up against you.
  107. >”Keep going…” she says looking intently at you.
  108. >You start from where you left off.
  109. >There’s some shifting from behind you and you feel her wing run along your back.
  110. >Turning, you look up and behind you, a small piece of something hanging off of Dash’s wing tip.
  111. >Looking a little more closely, you see that it’s some mistletoe.
  112. >Turning your attention back to her, you see a small glow on her cheeks and a hopeful but almost faltering smile, her ears splayed to the side.
  113. “Wha-“
  114. >”M-Mistletoe, Anon. You know, like on Earth…” she says.
  115. >You sit there for a second as your brain tries to process what’s happening.
  116. >It only takes that second for her smile to slumps into a frown.
  117.
  118. >You move in, a light brush of your lips against hers, almost instinctively.
  119. >It really takes you another few seconds to sort it out in your head.
  120. >You connect so well, maybe all it took was a small spark to make you push it a little further.
  121. >She’s always been pretty attractive too.
  122. >You take a second to look at her, the only light in the room coming softly from the tree, accenting the small tears barely forming in her eyes, the light blush across her cheeks, the small tremble of her lips.
  123. >”A-Anon…” she stammers out, almost questioning on why it took you so long or why you pulled away so quickly.
  124. >You wrap your arms around her pulling her closer as you bring your mouth to hers again, her wings wrapping around your back, the mistletoe dropping to the floor.
  125. >Pulling away after a minute, you catch your breath, hoping that it dispelled all fear or doubt in both of your minds weather you wanted this or not.
  126. >”I-I’m glad I came over…” she lets out as she cuddles up to you.
  127. >You shuffle a little and re-wrap your arms back around her.
  128. “Glad you came over too, Dashie.”
  129. >The two of you spend the rest of the night talking more about your past cuddled up in the warm glow of the Christmas/Hearths Warming tree.
