  1. >You are Anon
  2. >You've lived the last 18 years of your life keeping your head down, fading into the background
  3. >This was all deliberate, you hiding yourself away from them
  4. >Them, the leaders of your world
  5. >Outside of their realm existed nothing, at least according to what you've been taught
  6. >No one had ever dared to take steps outside the enormous walls that surround your existence, walls that were forever occupied by the royal sister's guards
  7. >You've always admired the guards
  8. >To become a guard meant that you threw away any chance at having a "normal" life (As normal as can be called normal in this society)
  9. >The guard's training program was kept secret, but certain aspects were "leaked" to the public
  10. >Insanely rigorous physical fitness, mental training that would rival that of the geniuses of the world
  11. >Emotional conditioning, designed to remove all emotion considered "Undesirable", ie compassion, mercy, love, etc
  12. >The guards are the perfect soldier, designed to follow orders with such precision and discipline they bordered on robotic
  13. >You've always wanted to be a guard, but you've heard stories of what they do to wash-outs
  14. >Brutal torture at the hands of interrogators-in-training, being set free only to be hunted down by the guard trainees, being a punching bag for when the trainees learned hand to hand combat
  15. >You don't want to take the risk
  16. >So you keep your head down, always obeying all the rules, never stepping out of line, being the citizen the sisters want you to be
  17. >You never questioned what happened to your neighbors in the night, never questioned why the people around you would disappear, only to reappear some months later with a vacant look in their eyes
  18. >You never questioned the yearly ritual of gathering in the city square in neat, orderly rows, overseen by the guardsmen in full dress uniform, shuffling in with your head down and facing the view screen as the anthem played, everyone singing along, wavering on the last note as it faded away and the elder of the two sister's face came into view on the screen
  19. >"Welcome back, faithful subjects. As you know, the secret to a successful society is for select members of the population to sacrifice them for the greater good, to take the leap that others cannot to ensure our continuation as a society-"
  20. >Of course it's essential, everyone knows that
  21. >Thats one thing you've allowed yourself to question
  22. >Why tell everyone what we already know?
  23. >Every year, everyone gathered in the city center, waiting to know who this year's "Tributes" would be
  24. >Every year, these tributes were sent off to the sister city, never to be seen again
  25. >All but one
  26. >The Royal Sisters allowed one tribute to return and spread his rumors about the city
  27. >A city even more desolate and rotting than this one, where the people were at constant war with one another
  28. >A city where harmony was but a distant memory for all who lived there
  29. >Naturally, no one believed him, least of all you
  30. >You're suddenly shoved from behind
  31. >You glance behind and see a guardsman glaring at you
  32. >"Are you anon?"
  33. "Y-yes..."
  34. >You whisper
  35. >The guardsman growls and leans in closer
  36. >"Speak up! Are you anon?"
  37. "Yes, sir."
  38. >you stand up and project your voice a little bit louder
  39. >You look confident, but inside you're shaking like a leaf
  40. >What did you do wrong? You sang the anthem, you said the pledge, you paid attention-
  41. >"Did you not hear your name get called? Are you stupid?"
  42. >Fuck
  43. >You weren't paying attention
  44. >You blink, trying to register that your name was called
  45. >You glance up at the screen, and see your name underneath a picture of you
  46. >Your stomach knots itself
  47. >You're a tribute
  48. >You walk up to the stage, a silence falling over the crowd
  49. >No one had ever had to be told their name was called
  50. >So much for fitting into the background
  51. >Someone coughs as you stand next to the other tributes
  52. >You can see in their faces that they're terrified of what is coming
  53. >No one knew what the tributes did
  54. >Even the one tribute that came back could never say what he did
  55. >Not that he wasn't allowed to, he just didn't remember
  56. >He said he remembers being flown over the walls and landing in the city
  57. >He remembers the doors opening, and some guards lining up from the plane doors to doors across the hangar
  58. >He remembers waking to them-
  59. >You're shoved again, this time from the front
  60. >"Anon! Do I need to hold your hand and walk you out of here?"
  61. >Fuck, you need to pay more attention
  62. "No, sir."
  63. >"Are you sure, anon? Seems to me like you don't know how to use that thing between your ears."
  64. "I'm sorry, sir"
  65. >"Get your ass moving then."
  66. "Yes sir"
  67. >You turn and walk through the doors at the back of the store
  68. >Fluorescent lights buzz as you walk down the hallway several steps behind the other tributes
  69. >Every twenty feet, another guard stands at attention, eyes fixed on the wall opposite them
  70. >Their discipline is slightly chilling
  71. >You feel your steps quicken as you try to catch up to the other tributes
  72. >Your shoes slap on the concrete and echo down the hall
  73. >You catch up and they glance back at you
  74. >15 tributes, plus you makes 16
  75. >Every year it's 16 tributes
  76. >Every year 16 people get chosen to disappear
  77. >What people didn't know was that every year, 16 people were also added into the general population
  78. >You knew this, because you worked in the census bureau
  79. >You had the privilege to see the population and its workings
  80. >You were able to see that for every death, there was an addition, and vice versa
  81. >The population stayed at a steady 20000 people, never deviating for more than a day
  82. >You run smack into the back of one of the tributes, almost knocking him down
  83. >He glances back at you, and you can see in his eyes he thinks you're an idiot
  84. "Sorry..."
  85. >He nods and turns back to the door you all have reached
  86. >Standing in the doorway is yet another guardsman, looking down at all of you with a bored look
  87. >You can empathize, if you had to stand in a doorway and only be able to do something once a year, you'd be bored too
  88. >"Congratulations on being chosen, tributes. Ahead of you lies the best four weeks of your life. Also the last four weeks."
  89. >He gives a slight chuckle as he watches all of your faces react to this statement
  90. >"My name is unimportant, but you may refer to me as SA. I am your new leader. It is my job to make sure you are physically capable of what is expected of you this next month."
  91. >One of the tributes raises his hand
  92. >SA sighs and points at him
  93. >"Yes?"
  94. >"Um, well, sir, I was just wondering what exactly it is that we will be doing."
  95. >"An answer you shall receive in the next ten minutes. Be patient. First things first, everyone line up against that wall and strip down."
  96. >You are the first one against the wall, your shirt halfway off. You she'd the rest of your clothes and fold them in a neat pile at your feet
  97. >You try to keep your eyes straight ahead, but they wander
  98. >You all seem to be average build. Some are more muscular, some are less so. Your eyes wander down south and you see, astonishingly, that you all appear to be the same girth and length
  99. >You dismiss this as a coincidence
  100. >"You enjoying yourself, anon?"
  101. >You feel your face get hot as you glance up at whoever was speaking
  102. >Your eyes settle on SA, a mischievous grin on his face
  103. "Sir?"
  104. >He laughs and addresses everyone
  105. >"You are going to line up in front of this door and wait to be called in by the doctor."
  106. >Everyone lines up, perfectly straight line. Somehow, you end up in front
  107. >Two minutes tick by, in complete silence
  108. >The door opens slightly
  109. >"Anon, please come in."
  110. >You heart begins beating harder, you can feel it in your throat
  111. >You walk in the door and see a man in a medical suit with a clipboard in his hand
  112. >He gestures at an examination table
  113. >"Please lay down"
  114. >You do as asked, feeling the cold metal against your skin
  115. >"This is an evaluation to determine your sexual capabilities
  116. >Two thoughts cross your mind: Why are they telling me this, and what sexual capabilities?
  117. >The first one you can figure out easy enough. You're gonna be dead in four weeks anyway, so they figure they might as well have you be cooperative by telling you the truth. Easier to deal with being scared by telling the truth than spinning more fear around.
  118. >The second question evades your mental understanding. You don't understand the word "sexual". You've never heard it before.
  119. >The doctor snaps his fingers at you
  120. >"Anon! Pay attention. When was the last time you had sex?"
  121. "Sex?"
  122. >He sighs.
  123. >"I forget sometimes. Apologies."
  124. "Forget what?"
  125. >He glances around. "I forget that your city has eradicated sex education."
  126. >Eradicated? It doesn't surprise you, there's a black market full of black-listed items, like political books and drugs, but you've never heard of sex.
  127. >"Let me give you a rundown." He launches into a long-winded speech about sex, or as he calls it, 'The Birds and the Bees'
  128. >Afterwards, you are left wondering where the title even comes from
  129. >You shake your head and look up at him
  130. "Why are you telling me this?"
  131. >"Because that's what you're going to be doing for the next few weeks, anon."
  132. "I'm going to be...sexing?"
  133. >He laughs
  134. >"You are going to be BREEDING, anon. You are going to a city full of females. Basically the opposite of your city."
  135. >You pause and think. It never crossed your mind that you only ever saw things geared towards males. Bathrooms, showers, clothes, the like. Not that you knew what a male was. You just assumed everyone was the same. Now, you are learning that not only are there different...sexes, the tributes every year go and...breed (?) with the other city.
  136. >You blink at the doctor
  137. >He blinks back
  138. >A silence begins, stretching on for minutes
  139. >He coughs and stands up
  140. >"Lean back, anon."
  141. >You lean back on the cold examination table
  142. >He grips your penis
  143. >Your breathing escalates and you reach up to remove his hand
  144. >His other hand pushes you down
  145. >"Anon, stop. This is just an examination, no need to get excited."
  146. >You lay back down, ignoring how wrong this seems
