  1. (04:48:49 AM) DFGreg [43b4d26a@hide-BF4D4B18.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  2. (04:48:49 AM) mode (+v DFGreg) by ChanServ
  3. (04:48:55 AM) DFGreg: Hey guys!
  4. (04:48:58 AM) Krzysztof: Hi!
  5. (04:49:14 AM) DFGreg: On with Craig now. Just getting some final things set up
  6. (04:49:16 AM) Cheeseness: Hey Greg!
  7. (04:49:24 AM) DFGreg: Get your questions ready!
  8. (04:49:28 AM) Krzysztof: Hi Craig, the Artist!
  9. (04:49:30 AM) Babar: :D
  10. (04:49:34 AM) Babar: I am not the Elephant
  11. (04:49:40 AM) Cheeseness: lol
  12. (04:49:42 AM) Babar: also, helloGreg
  13. (04:49:44 AM) Cheeseness: lies
  14. (04:50:05 AM) sirhoksu_: hi DFGreg
  15. (04:51:29 AM) sirhoksu_: get it for iDevice :) best experience
  16. (04:51:44 AM) Cheeseness: So Craig is with you in person, Greg?
  17. (04:52:47 AM) sirhoksu_: are we starting over?
  18. (04:53:15 AM) Krzysztof: we wait for the proper moon phase to start ;)
  19. (04:56:20 AM) DFGreg: okay going live
  20. (04:57:02 AM) Cheeseness: What a lovely room of death.
  21. (04:59:30 AM) DFGreg: bring the questions if you've got em!
  22. (05:00:10 AM) Cheeseness: I'm keen to know where the inspiration for the moon phase mechanics came from.
  23. (05:00:43 AM) Krzysztof: When the next game is coming?
  24. (05:01:34 AM) Cheeseness: Nathan did one half of the keynote talk for the Game Masters: The Forum event that I've been writing about for the past week or so (if anybody's excited by trivia like that)
  25. (05:01:44 AM) Cheeseness: (Nathan from Capy)
  26. (05:03:39 AM) Cheeseness: I also wouldn't mind hear about how the art style for Sword & Sworcery evolved. It's such a fantastic and distinctive reimagining of pixel art, and the animation is superb.
  27. (05:05:46 AM) mib_sdwj3k [4b619057@hide-BF4D4B18.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  28. (05:05:46 AM) mode (+v mib_sdwj3k) by ChanServ
  29. (05:06:33 AM) Cheeseness: (I have to abashedly admit I'm not familiar with Craig's previous artwork :D )
  30. (05:06:55 AM) DFGreg: it looks a lot like the game
  31. (05:06:59 AM) DFGreg: super rad
  32. (05:07:10 AM) Cheeseness: I'll have to have a hunt :)
  33. (05:12:53 AM) sirhoksu_: ratatat is awesome band
  34. (05:13:16 AM) mib_sdwj3k: There's swearing on the internet now? Gosh.
  35. (05:13:18 AM) Cheeseness: Is this an appropriate question:
  36. (05:13:19 AM) Cheeseness: 4086342806?
  37. (05:13:24 AM) Daiz: Greg & Craig eh
  38. (05:13:40 AM) Daiz: almost on the other side of the world from here
  39. (05:13:58 AM) Cheeseness: Where're you from, Daiz?
  40. (05:14:03 AM) Daiz: Finland
  41. (05:14:08 AM) Cheeseness: Awesome :)
  42. (05:14:10 AM) Daiz: 10-hour difference to PDT
  43. (05:14:15 AM) sirhoksu_: hello fellow country man
  44. (05:14:21 AM) Cheeseness: It's 5:15am here in Australia
  45. (05:16:22 AM) sirhoksu_: is there more project coming from superbrother?
  46. (05:17:04 AM) Krzysztof: But why to make a game instead of a music video?
  47. (05:17:17 AM) defeeca [551d4028@hide-50D287EE.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  48. (05:17:18 AM) mode (+v defeeca) by ChanServ
  49. (05:17:30 AM) mib_sdwj3k left the room.
  50. (05:20:22 AM) defeeca: i must say gratz for that battle soundtrack at sword of sorcery it feels epic :P
  51. (05:21:29 AM) Cheeseness: What insight has watching sworcery hashtag activity given them about the way people play, and react to the game?
  52. (05:24:25 AM) defeeca: i feel that sword of sorcery was more of art than game dont get me wrong it was great piece of art but as game perspective it wasnt really that hard still enjoyed the story
  53. (05:26:06 AM) Cheeseness: I couldn't kill him. There was no option ;_;
  54. (05:26:06 AM) sirhoksu_: I just got spoiled :D
  55. (05:26:28 AM) defeeca: alsoo i agree to your puzzle talk but completing puzzles gives satisfaction of solving puzle
  56. (05:26:41 AM) defeeca: but if its too hard or arbitary it just annoys the player
  57. (05:26:42 AM) Cheeseness: (as in, I personally didn't morally have the option - the game wasn't broken)
  58. (05:27:32 AM) defeeca: also who is talking with the creator of sword and sworcery?
  59. (05:27:34 AM) defeeca: is it tim?
  60. (05:27:38 AM) Cheeseness: It's Greg
  61. (05:27:42 AM) sirhoksu_: its DFGreg
  62. (05:27:48 AM) sirhoksu_: DFA producer
  63. (05:27:48 AM) DFGreg: It's me!
  64. (05:27:53 AM) Cheeseness: :D
  65. (05:28:35 AM) sirhoksu_: tell about the twitter thing/social media aspect of the S&S?
  66. (05:29:08 AM) defeeca: also is the s&s creator in the irc? :P if not you should invite him
  67. (05:31:02 AM) Krzysztof: Did you imagine the life of the game in let's say 10 years, when twitter will be long forgotten? :)
  68. (05:31:05 AM) Cheeseness: Was it challenging to write the script to 140 chars? I can barely cope with it when just doing normal twitter stuff. I can't imagine trying to constraint a script like that.
  69. (05:33:54 AM) Cheeseness: What's the most common tweet, I wonder?
  70. (05:36:25 AM) sirhoksu_: Always somekind of problem with stream :P
  71. (05:36:34 AM) Cheeseness: :D
  72. (05:37:25 AM) Krzysztof: http://www.theblogmocracy.com/wp-content/uploads/PLEASE-STAND-BY.png
  73. (05:39:52 AM) Krzysztof: It's sad to see her loosing health
  74. (05:39:55 AM) Cheeseness: :( poor scythian
  75. (05:40:00 AM) Cheeseness: I know, right
  76. (05:40:30 AM) defeeca: the story aspect of this game was great i must say
  77. (05:40:36 AM) defeeca: same with visual style and music
  78. (05:40:43 AM) defeeca: especially the boss music
  79. (05:40:50 AM) Cheeseness: I feel like it wouldn't have the same charm if it had more puzzles, you know
  80. (05:41:09 AM) Krzysztof: but maybe less puzzles would be better? :)
  81. (05:41:23 AM) defeeca: i dunno i feel like that with puzzles it could have been better
  82. (05:41:24 AM) Cheeseness: Plausible. I personally like that it's interactive
  83. (05:41:35 AM) defeeca: and most definately would have made this game longer
  84. (05:41:45 AM) defeeca: as it was now its kinda short
  85. (05:41:47 AM) Cheeseness: Does it need to be longer?
  86. (05:41:56 AM) Krzysztof: well, but there is nothing more to add to the story
  87. (05:42:14 AM) Cheeseness: I love this narration
  88. (05:42:17 AM) Cheeseness: lol
  89. (05:42:22 AM) defeeca: yeah it doesnt cause its fine piece of art but which do you enjoy more long game or short game?
  90. (05:42:28 AM) Krzysztof: I don't ;)
  91. (05:42:43 AM) Cheeseness: You don't love this bit? With the ghost being obtuse?
  92. (05:43:08 AM) Krzysztof: Not at all, I still don;t understand this art choice
  93. (05:43:15 AM) defeeca: still puzles are always trickky make its too hard and the player will abandon the game
  94. (05:43:23 AM) defeeca: make it too easy and ppl wont notice it
  95. (05:43:48 AM) Krzysztof: Sure, it's not easy.
  96. (05:43:48 AM) Cheeseness: defeeca: For me, I think that longer is not necessarily better. Portal 1 would have been worse if it were longer.
  97. (05:44:03 AM) Cheeseness: Balancing is definitely a difficult thing to do
  98. (05:45:58 AM) defeeca: i dunno if it have had same quality puzzles , i would have enjoyed portal more as longer game
  99. (05:46:16 AM) defeeca: but its pretty clear that they just made portal as kinda side project
  100. (05:46:25 AM) defeeca: so it wasnt long for that reason
  101. (05:46:27 AM) Krzysztof: yeah, one or two rooms more wouldn't change much
  102. (05:46:59 AM) defeeca: still the ending song and cake is a lie was brilliant :D
  103. (05:46:59 AM) Cheeseness: Portal was significantly enhanced by its streamlined nature
  104. (05:47:05 AM) defeeca: story wise that is
  105. (05:47:43 AM) Cheeseness: Story needs to be paced. Inserting extra content in here and there can disrupt that and require reworking and repacing of story elements. It's pretty complex stuff.
  106. (05:48:07 AM) defeeca: true but main aspect of portal was the puzzles
  107. (05:48:19 AM) defeeca: and story could have been longer
  108. (05:48:27 AM) Cheeseness: I think the story was perfect
  109. (05:48:38 AM) defeeca: if you had been inserting more hidden rooms here and there
  110. (05:48:41 AM) Krzysztof: When I got the second trigon I didn't know I have to switch off, so I walked all the areas one more time to check what to do next. With more rooms and no option to fast travel it would be even worse...
  111. (05:48:43 AM) defeeca: story was perfect
  112. (05:48:57 AM) defeeca: but you could have given more hints of the cake thingy :P
  113. (05:49:12 AM) Cheeseness: The only thing I would have changed about that game was to allow the companion cube to be taken to another room, so that it becomes a suprise when you have to destroy it (since nothing else can travel between test chambers)
  114. (05:49:21 AM) defeeca: it would have been no problem continuing the sotry that way
  115. (05:49:23 AM) Cheeseness: I don't think there needed to be more cake hints...
  116. (05:50:18 AM) sirhoksu_: is that a bear?
  117. (05:50:23 AM) Cheeseness: Poor boor :(
  118. (05:50:26 AM) Krzysztof: it is
  119. (05:50:32 AM) Cheeseness: Save or slay?
  120. (05:50:45 AM) Cheeseness: Aww, DFGreg <3
  121. (05:51:27 AM) defeeca: i think the best char in s&s was the dog :P
  122. (05:51:36 AM) Cheeseness: dogfella is awesome :3
  123. (05:51:46 AM) Cheeseness: I still like the obtuse ghost though :b
  124. (05:53:01 AM) superbrothers [63e7c486@hide-6C77D8AA.mibbit.com] entered the room.

  126. (05:53:10 AM) Cheeseness: Hey superbrothers :D
  127. (05:53:20 AM) superbrothers: whoa where am i what is this
  128. (05:53:21 AM) Krzysztof: hi Craig!
  129. (05:53:29 AM) superbrothers: hi folks!
  130. (05:53:36 AM) sirhoksu_: hi there
  131. (05:53:45 AM) Krzysztof: it's like twitter, you;ll like it ;)
  132. (05:53:48 AM) Cheeseness: Greg just spared the boor
  133. (05:53:53 AM) sirhoksu_: awesome game you guys have made
  134. (05:53:56 AM) superbrothers: i'm super new to whatever this is... is there a feed to watch?
  135. (05:54:03 AM) Krzysztof: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/double-fine-game-club
  136. (05:54:03 AM) Cheeseness: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/double-fine-game-club
  137. (05:54:05 AM) sirhoksu_: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/double-fine-game-club
  138. (05:54:07 AM) sirhoksu_: :D
  139. (05:54:07 AM) Cheeseness: >_<
  140. (05:54:14 AM) superbrothers: haha, thx
  141. (05:54:40 AM) Cheeseness: (you only need to open one of them - viewing it in tri vision is not recommended)
  142. (05:54:47 AM) defeeca: hi enjoyed the game trough i feel like it was more of art piece (interactive story) than it was a game :P
  143. (05:54:50 AM) superbrothers: glad to hear greg ricey spared the poor ol' boor
  144. (05:55:01 AM) eriktorbjorn [51ead107@hide-6C77D8AA.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  145. (05:55:01 AM) mode (+v eriktorbjorn) by ChanServ
  146. (05:55:09 AM) Krzysztof: Did you back DFA? ;)
  147. (05:55:19 AM) Cheeseness: Did you find that many people slayed the boor? I mean, it wasn't really an option for me.
  148. (05:55:22 AM) superbrothers: defeeca: you're not wrong, I think it's somewhere in the middle
  149. (05:55:39 AM) superbrothers: re: boor slaying... we have no stats but we have heard stories
  150. (05:55:41 AM) defeeca: yeah it still was fine game :P
  151. (05:55:51 AM) superbrothers: i've heard two separate stories of a father + kid playing
  152. (05:55:58 AM) Cheeseness: Aww D:
  153. (05:56:00 AM) superbrothers: father sort of unthinkingly tries pressing the sword
  154. (05:56:01 AM) Cheeseness: Mob mentality
  155. (05:56:09 AM) superbrothers: boor is horrifically slain
  156. (05:56:11 AM) Cheeseness: ;_;
  157. (05:56:14 AM) superbrothers: kid is heartbroken
  158. (05:56:21 AM) Cheeseness: Game is never played again
  159. (05:56:23 AM) superbrothers: aghast at father/parent
  160. (05:56:32 AM) superbrothers: a "teachable moment" in both of their lives
  161. (05:56:36 AM) Krzysztof: But at least the kid knows not to argue with his old man...
  162. (05:56:39 AM) superbrothers: haha
  163. (05:56:55 AM) sirhoksu_: i love these moments when music starts to play
  164. (05:56:56 AM) superbrothers: but yeah, i've heard that same story from two different parent/kid sets
  165. (05:57:22 AM) Cheeseness: In some ways, that's actually likely to be pretty healthy.
  166. (05:57:27 AM) sirhoksu_: also the foley effects are spot on
  167. (05:57:33 AM) Cheeseness: To encounter these things together as a family and work through them
  168. (05:57:43 AM) Cheeseness: Yeah, the sound effects are great
  169. (05:57:46 AM) Krzysztof: You mean dancing bears?
  170. (05:57:50 AM) defeeca: i must say the battle music in this game is epic
  171. (05:57:52 AM) superbrothers: i did a lot of the initial sound design stuff, but capy co-founder + composer sean lohrish cleaned up all my messes
  172. (05:58:02 AM) sirhoksu_: heh
  173. (05:58:09 AM) superbrothers: also: the voice of the skeleton + boor is kris piotrowski, capy creative director + S&S co-creator
  174. (05:58:20 AM) Cheeseness: Where did the boor's tune come from?
  175. (05:58:23 AM) superbrothers: recorded in jim's subterranean lair
  176. (05:58:36 AM) superbrothers: the boor tune = the one he sings?
  177. (05:58:39 AM) Cheeseness: Yeah
  178. (05:59:09 AM) superbrothers: the boor tune = jim suggesting the boor sing a 'david brent from the office' tune, we youtubed it, kris sang it
  179. (05:59:17 AM) superbrothers: all in like five minutes
  180. (05:59:29 AM) Cheeseness: Awesome :D
  181. (05:59:40 AM) superbrothers: did u know: if you talk to logfella in session 3 at weird moon phases he'll give you super obscure lore
  182. (05:59:53 AM) Cheeseness: Oh, I didn't
  183. (05:59:56 AM) Krzysztof: I didn;t know that
  184. (05:59:56 AM) superbrothers: in text that is
  185. (06:00:02 AM) sirhoksu_: did not know that
  186. (06:00:17 AM) superbrothers: yeah, as crazy as the whole story set-up is, i actually worked super hard to make it make sense in my own head
  187. (06:00:33 AM) Cheeseness: How many people here have completed their woeful errand?
  188. (06:00:51 AM) superbrothers: and i wrote a bunch of things that kind of fill out the backstory, but there was no reason to include them, they would've cluttered up an already pretty involved player-lead narrative
  189. (06:00:51 AM) Cheeseness: I have a question I'd like to ask, but I'm wary of spoiling something accidentally
  190. (06:00:56 AM) sirhoksu_: I'm still on chapter 3 waiting the moon :)
  191. (06:01:02 AM) Krzysztof: How did you beta test the game? Don;t you think that some of these things, like the one with Logfella talking things in certain time, are too hard to find?
  192. (06:01:09 AM) superbrothers: how many people finished = no idea, again, we didn't do anything to track stats
  193. (06:01:43 AM) superbrothers: k: the alt logfella dialog is super low-priority and super-no-big-deal testing wise
  194. (06:01:46 AM) Cheeseness: You'd have a vague indication of some stuff (not of total completions though) by watching the hashtag activity though, right?
  195. (06:01:55 AM) superbrothers: k: but yes, it was super tricky testing session 3
  196. (06:02:29 AM) Krzysztof: But for example the "secret" room with the beautifull artwork is really worth visiting and I guess it is hidden very very ekhem.. .well
  197. (06:03:00 AM) Cheeseness: Is this secret room the room that Greg went to a little while ago to progress farther in the game?
  198. (06:03:10 AM) Cheeseness: Or is it something I missed :D
  199. (06:03:18 AM) Krzysztof: no, another one
  200. (06:03:23 AM) superbrothers: greg: you gotta sit down and let jim play
  201. (06:03:25 AM) Cheeseness: Yay, more stuff :D
  202. (06:03:38 AM) defeeca: i think its fine if some things are hard to find it just adds the discovery if players chooses to play the game again :P
  203. (06:03:53 AM) Cheeseness: Does Greg normally respond to IRC when he's playing, or is he normally doing stuff full screen?
  204. (06:03:56 AM) superbrothers: greegggggg you missed the secret jim jam campfire concertttttt
  205. (06:04:00 AM) defeeca: or reads walktrough and finds out they have missed most of stuff
  206. (06:04:03 AM) Cheeseness: I love that part
  207. (06:04:16 AM) sirhoksu_: DFGreg: get back to the concert :D
  208. (06:04:17 AM) superbrothers: haha, dunno if greg can see this... the scene he missed is the secret heart of S&S
  209. (06:04:20 AM) Cheeseness: DFGreg, did you know you can jam with Jim?
  210. (06:04:45 AM) Cheeseness: Have you gotten much feedback about that particular part of the game?
  211. (06:04:50 AM) Cheeseness: (jamming with Jim)
  212. (06:04:52 AM) superbrothers: with regards to being able to miss the secret best bits of S&S: that was actually something we really wanted more of
  213. (06:05:23 AM) superbrothers: think of dark souls or whatever... the idea that behind any door there might be something jaw-dropping or surprising... it adds to the mystery and the sense of possibility
  214. (06:05:24 AM) defeeca: yeah i like it when game has some secret's :P
  215. (06:05:40 AM) Cheeseness: Yeah, definitely
  216. (06:06:25 AM) superbrothers: S&S is pretty sparse secret-wise due to production constraints (team ability, schedule etc) but i'm glad we were able to get a few little surprising elements in, mostly/entirely in session 3, where we leave the player alone to wander
  217. (06:06:39 AM) sirhoksu_: what was the schedule btw=
  218. (06:06:40 AM) sirhoksu_: ?
  219. (06:06:43 AM) Krzysztof: I had this feeling initially and tried to check every bush, but it didn;t come to my mind to check out every moon phase :)
  220. (06:07:05 AM) superbrothers: initial schedule = 8 months, actual schedule = 16 months
  221. (06:07:10 AM) Cheeseness: The reflection puzzle was hard. it took me a long time to see that foreground bush
  222. (06:07:10 AM) superbrothers: which is CRAZY
  223. (06:07:29 AM) superbrothers: the reflection puzzle is definitely a weird one...
  224. (06:07:35 AM) Cheeseness: I really liked it though
  225. (06:07:47 AM) Krzysztof: Ah, that was maybe the only puzzle I solved quickly :D
  226. (06:08:03 AM) Cheeseness: It's so obvious when you know it's there...
  227. (06:08:06 AM) superbrothers: a lot of these puzzles are sort of borderline as actual intellectual puzzles, but the idea was they'd be kind of discoverable and intuitive and you'd sort of stumble over them in a trance
  228. (06:08:28 AM) Cheeseness: I actually appreciate that. I think it fits with the structure and style of the game
  229. (06:08:44 AM) superbrothers: uh oh
  230. (06:08:50 AM) superbrothers: eeeeeeek
  231. (06:09:04 AM) Cheeseness: Does the head tap work at this stage?
  232. (06:09:20 AM) superbrothers: head tap is only in session IV... i think
  233. (06:09:22 AM) Krzysztof: I guess not
  234. (06:09:30 AM) Cheeseness: Okeydokey
  235. (06:09:42 AM) superbrothers: or that's the only place where it matters...
  236. (06:09:46 AM) Cheeseness: Yeah
  237. (06:09:54 AM) sirhoksu_: trpping mushrooms
  238. (06:10:06 AM) superbrothers: kids: don't do drugs
  239. (06:10:13 AM) Cheeseness: Mushrooms are not toys
  240. (06:10:23 AM) superbrothers: miyamoto started it
  241. (06:10:24 AM) Cheeseness: I wonder how many interesting family moments came out of that as well
  242. (06:10:26 AM) sirhoksu_: but this game says its okay =(
  243. (06:10:27 AM) superbrothers: alice in wonderland started it
  244. (06:10:35 AM) superbrothers: a teachable moment
  245. (06:10:39 AM) Krzysztof: Is there any particular reason why you decided to place the story in Caucas mountains?
  246. (06:10:58 AM) superbrothers: oh yeah, caucasus mountains... there's a whole bunch of thought that went into that
  247. (06:11:15 AM) superbrothers: so i knew early on this was gonnna be called sword & sworcery
  248. (06:11:29 AM) superbrothers: but at the time i wasn't 100% familiar with the history of "sword and sorcery"
  249. (06:11:51 AM) superbrothers: i did my research, it was a phrase coined in the 50s to describe Robert E. Howard's mythological low fantasy pulp fiction
  250. (06:12:04 AM) superbrothers: specially the full-bodied cosmic horror and adventure of Conan
  251. (06:12:11 AM) sirhoksu_: do you prefer people playing this on iDevice or pc?
  252. (06:12:12 AM) superbrothers: Conan is from Cimmeria
  253. (06:12:17 AM) superbrothers: Cimmeria is in the Caucasus
  254. (06:12:33 AM) superbrothers: S&S takes place like three mountains away from where Conan grew up
  255. (06:13:04 AM) Krzysztof: is it? I thought it was in the British Isles, like maybe Wales ;)
  256. (06:13:05 AM) superbrothers: The Scythian is intended to be Conan-like, only female
  257. (06:13:13 AM) superbrothers: nope, it's in the Caucasus
  258. (06:13:15 AM) flesk [54d17916@hide-6C77D8AA.mibbit.com] entered the room.

  260. (06:13:23 AM) superbrothers: Mingi Taw is the actual Turkish name for Mt. Elbrus
  261. (06:13:35 AM) superbrothers: Mt. Elbrus is the tallest mountain in Europe, located in the Caucasus
  262. (06:13:46 AM) Krzysztof: Not many people know that, you know?
  263. (06:14:05 AM) Krzysztof: most of the Europeans think the highest peak is Mt Blanc
  264. (06:14:09 AM) superbrothers: my thinking was that the greeks imagined all kinds of things about Olympus, and while there's a Mt. Olympus near the mediterranean, people would have heard about the real tallest mountain in the lands beyond the north wind
  265. (06:14:20 AM) superbrothers: k: depends how you define europe
  266. (06:14:37 AM) superbrothers: k: it's a grey area, but Mt. Elbrus is taller than Mt. Blanc
  267. (06:14:45 AM) Krzysztof: no no, it's perfectly correct what you're saying, it is just surprising you gathered these details :)
  268. (06:14:49 AM) superbrothers: k: grey area = definition of Europe vs Asia
  269. (06:14:57 AM) superbrothers: k: i did a tonnnnne of research
  270. (06:15:08 AM) sirhoksu_: it's easter europe = Mt. Elbrus
  271. (06:15:16 AM) sirhoksu_: and western has Mt Blanc
  272. (06:15:19 AM) superbrothers: k: i read a pile of Robert E. Howard, a pile of Carl Jung
  273. (06:15:29 AM) superbrothers: k: a ton of wikipedia :)
  274. (06:15:54 AM) superbrothers: all that said, pretty sure that Mt. Elbrus in 1000BC didn't look like S&S
  275. (06:16:07 AM) Cheeseness: That's because nothing could be this pretty
  276. (06:16:14 AM) superbrothers: i grew up on canada's west coast, with super tall trees and leafy rain forests, so that's probably an influence
  277. (06:16:18 AM) sirhoksu_: or pixelated ;)
  278. (06:16:29 AM) superbrothers: another connection for the setting
  279. (06:16:41 AM) superbrothers: i worked for a year on a 'siege of troy' project at a studio
  280. (06:16:43 AM) Krzysztof: I guess the biggest "mistake" would be crosses marking the graves, all the rest is fine
  281. (06:17:12 AM) superbrothers: i've always been super interested in that time period but spending a year on that project doing research and creating concepts i got pretty familiar with 'amazons' and scythia
  282. (06:17:57 AM) superbrothers: amazons aren't just jane fonda in fur bikinis, they are for real people, women warriors who were in myth and history books, whose tombs have been found in turkey, ukraine, iran
  283. (06:18:24 AM) flesk left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  284. (06:18:34 AM) superbrothers: anyhoooo
  285. (06:18:54 AM) superbrothers: k: crosses... yeah, i struggled with that... but my love of castlevania won out
  286. (06:19:28 AM) superbrothers: k: i explained it to myself like... crosses pre-date christianity, it's a pretty archetypical symbol or marker, could've been used for graves maybe
  287. (06:19:33 AM) Krzysztof: well, I imagine it's better to use a well known symbol than to be historically acurate, it's not a textbook after all :)
  288. (06:19:39 AM) Cheeseness: This part of the puzzle was a bit obtuse
  289. (06:19:49 AM) Cheeseness: Having to work out that the suns needed more sworcery
  290. (06:20:05 AM) defeeca: also in my opinion crosses make sense if had been other symbols ppl might have missed those graves
  291. (06:20:18 AM) superbrothers: this bit works better on iPhone but all these miracles were designed to be out of the box & totally weird
  292. (06:20:52 AM) superbrothers: k: well, i don't think the history books are the absolute arbiter of how people used to live
  293. (06:21:24 AM) sirhoksu_: these bosses somewhat remind me of final fantasy for some reason
  294. (06:21:42 AM) superbrothers: k: but yeah, the cross=grave thing is probably stretching reality, but again... i couldn't resist due to my love of castlevania
  295. (06:22:01 AM) superbrothers: s: have you heard mitsuto yamane's remix of this song?
  296. (06:22:26 AM) Cheeseness: Did you guys find it difficult to structure the script into 140 char elements? I find it painful for normal twitter use. I can imagine it being a really difficult constraint to work with.
  297. (06:22:28 AM) defeeca: final fantasy cause of some boss batles at final fantasy had awesome boss music's :P
  298. (06:22:31 AM) superbrothers: s: http://jimguthrie.bandcamp.com/track/unknowable-geometry-michiru-yamane-symphony-mix
  299. (06:22:38 AM) sirhoksu_: no i have not
  300. (06:22:43 AM) sirhoksu_: let's see :)
  301. (06:22:51 AM) superbrothers: c: we committed to the constraint early on, and then at the very end i had to write the script...
  302. (06:23:08 AM) superbrothers: ...the thing is, it just means the chunks of text have to be 140... like each sentence
  303. (06:23:17 AM) superbrothers: but you can use multiple sentences
  304. (06:23:23 AM) superbrothers: i practiced by using twitter a bunch
  305. (06:23:29 AM) superbrothers: and i actually found the constraint not that bad

  312. (06:24:04 AM) superbrothers: s: mitsuto yamane is probably best know for symphony of the night, her remix is super 16-bit / 32-bit jrpg
  313. (06:24:22 AM) superbrothers: c: clearly i share your penchant for verbosity
  314. (06:24:41 AM) superbrothers: c: but yeah, when you commit to a constraint it's not that bad, it's a puzzle to solve
  315. (06:24:50 AM) sirhoksu_: very nice remix
  316. (06:24:55 AM) sirhoksu_: is this on the official OST?
  317. (06:25:04 AM) superbrothers: s: the original is on the OST yep
  318. (06:25:23 AM) superbrothers: so on the twitter thing, this was fun:
  319. (06:25:30 AM) superbrothers: in the first few weeks post launch
  320. (06:25:31 AM) Cheeseness: Right, constraints often lead to innovation. Though it's still so painful to see that you're one character over ;_;
  321. (06:25:32 AM) Krzysztof: and there goes another health bar :(
  322. (06:25:39 AM) superbrothers: people would tweet 'i got X trigon' or whatever
  323. (06:25:44 AM) sirhoksu_: i bought humblebundle cause of the S&S OST, Own those games already
  324. (06:25:47 AM) superbrothers: and us creators would be searching by #sworcery
  325. (06:25:59 AM) superbrothers: and we'd reply with 'high five' or 'well done' or whatever
  326. (06:26:18 AM) superbrothers: it was a unique thing in the sense that it was easy for us to reach out and connect
  327. (06:26:24 AM) superbrothers: and i think it made a lot of people's days
  328. (06:26:55 AM) Krzysztof: When is your next game coming? :)

  336. (06:28:22 AM) Cheeseness: If this is a difficult question to answer without giving anything away, then please feel free to ignore it. 4086342806?
  337. (06:28:22 AM) superbrothers: k: and then i jump into the deep end on the next thing
  338. (06:28:34 AM) defeeca: ah i know that
  339. (06:28:36 AM) defeeca: ;D
  340. (06:28:43 AM) defeeca: but dont know what it means
  341. (06:28:50 AM) superbrothers: c: haha, i can give that stuff away... although up until now i would always just go with 'no comment' or 'i have no idea what you're talking about'
  342. (06:29:00 AM) superbrothers: has anyone tried calling that number?
  343. (06:29:03 AM) superbrothers: on the telephone?
  344. (06:29:04 AM) Cheeseness: People have
  345. (06:29:16 AM) Cheeseness: I live in Australia, and try to avoid international calls though ;)
  346. (06:29:50 AM) superbrothers: welllll people have been leaving messages and we've been collecting them and... if you were a venus patrol kick-starter backer you might find out more
  347. (06:30:12 AM) Cheeseness: Ooher. That sounds like a thickening plot.
  348. (06:30:16 AM) superbrothers: the code / telephone message stuff was more or less brandon boyer's idea, and he brought in scntfc for the sounds
  349. (06:30:19 AM) superbrothers: bloodsports!!!
  350. (06:30:29 AM) Cheeseness: Bloodsports. How did the bloodsports line come about?
  351. (06:30:37 AM) superbrothers: love that line
  352. (06:30:37 AM) sirhoksu_: that was wierd line
  353. (06:30:46 AM) Cheeseness: It's awesomely delivered
