  1. Dashspins Metagross (Metagross) @ Assault Vest
  2. Ability: Clear Body
  3. EVs: 84 HP / 252 Atk / 172 Spd
  4. Adamant Nature
  5. - Meteor Mash
  6. - Zen Headbutt
  7. - Bullet Punch
  8. - Ice Punch
  9.
  10. Assault Vest allows Metagross to survive some fire hits that may OHKO it and provides additional bulk to the set, which forgoes maximum bulk for speed investment. The 172 Spd EV's allow Metagross to outspeed Landorus-T and OHKO with Ice Punch, Metagross is not effected by Intimidate due to its ability Clear Body. This set, as well as all metagross sets, can easily deal with fairy type pokemon like [Mega] Gardevoire and Sylveon.
  11. For this reason, Dragon types like Salamence and Garchomp make great teammates for Metagross, who can often sweep entire teams once the fairy types and intimidators like Lando-T have been eliminated. The two dragons can also come in on fire attacks aimed at Metagross and resists the hit while Salamence can come in on ground attacks aimed at Metagross.
  12. Flame Orb + Guts Conkelldur is another great partner for Metagross, being able to deal with dark types that threaten Metagross, while also not fearing Will-O-Wisp which cripples Metagross.
  13.
  14. 252+ Atk Metagross Ice Punch vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Landorus-T: 408-480 (106.8 - 125.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
  15. 252+ Atk Metagross Meteor Mash vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Mega Gardevoir: 474-558 (170.5 - 200.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
  16. 252+ Atk Metagross Bullet Punch vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Mega Gardevoir: 210-248 (75.5 - 89.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
  17. 252+ Atk Metagross Meteor Mash vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Sylveon: 474-558 (120.3 - 141.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
  18. 252+ Atk Metagross Bullet Punch vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Sylveon: 210-248 (53.2 - 62.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
  19.
  20. 252 SpA Shaymin-S Earth Power vs. 82 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Metagross: 136-162 (42.3 - 50.4%) -- 1.2% chance to 2HKO
  21. 252 Atk Garchomp Earthquake vs. 82 HP / 0 Def Metagross: 260-308 (80.9 - 95.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
  22. 252+ Atk Life Orb Bisharp Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 82 HP / 0 Def Metagross: 351-416 (109.3 - 129.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
  23. 252+ Atk Life Orb Bisharp Knock Off vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Mega Garchomp: 133-156 (37.1 - 43.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
  24.
  25. Full credit for the above set goes to Dashspin
  26.
  27. Phys Tank (Metagross) @ Occa Berry
  28. Ability: Clear Body
  29. Shiny: Yes
  30. EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spd
  31. Adamant Nature
  32. - Meteor Mash
  33. - Bullet Punch
  34. - Zen Headbutt
  35. - Protect
  36.
  37. This is what I would consider Metagross's bread-and-butter set, making the most out of both it's impressive bulk and attack stat - both of which lend to Metagross being an effective physical tank. Meteor Mash is going to be your STAB move of choice in most situations (90bp,90acc) and has the nice benefit of a 20% chance to boost Metagross's attack by 1.
  38. Occa Berry is an important feature of this set, allowing Metagross to survive even a Heat Wave from Mega Charizard Y in the sun (please don't stay in on Mega Charizard Y, I'm just making a point).
  39. Good teammates for this set include tailwind setters who can boost Metagross's low speed. Under tailwind, Metagross can outspeed Terrakion and OHKO it with Meteor Mash. Suicune in particular is a strong teammate, being able to set up tailwind, and help take down pesky fire/ground types that threaten metagross.
  40.
  41. 252 SpA Mega Charizard Y Heat Wave vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Occa Berry Metagross in Sun: 220-261 (60.4 - 71.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
  42. 252+ Atk Metagross Meteor Mash vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Terrakion: 362-428 (112 - 132.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
  43.
  44. Scarf (Metagross) @ Choice Scarf
  45. Ability: Clear Body
  46. EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
  47. Jolly Nature
  48. - Meteor Mash
  49. - Rock Slide
  50. - Earthquake/Ice Punch
  51. - Trick
  52.
  53. Scarf Metagross is always a surprise, especially when it outspeeds max speed Talonflame and OHKOs with Rock Slide before it can hit Metagross with Flare Blitz. This set is Metagross's surprise factor utilizing its main STAB move Meteor Mash, and nearly perfect coverage with the rockslide/earthquake combination. Alternatively, Ice Punch can be used to smash standard Garchomp and Skymin who are both outsped by Scarf Metagross.
  54. Ferrothorn makes a good partner to this set, being able to OHKO Rotom-Wash with Power Whip, allowing Metagross to come in without fearing WoW. Togekiss can also redirect and resist common Sucker Punches aimed at Metagross thanks to Follow-Me.
  55.
  56. 252+ Atk Metagross Ice Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Shaymin-S: 472-556 (138.4 - 163%) -- guaranteed OHKO
  57. 252+ Atk Metagross Ice Punch vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Garchomp: 384-456 (107.2 - 127.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
  58. 252+ Atk Metagross Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Heatran: 352-416 (91.1 - 107.7%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO
  59. 252+ Atk Metagross Rock Slide vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Talonflame: 368-436 (123.4 - 146.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
  60. 252+ Atk Metagross Rock Slide vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Mega Charizard Y: 340-400 (114 - 134.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
  61.
  62. Yolo-gross (Metagross) @ Normal Gem
  63. Ability: Clear Body
  64. Shiny: Yes
  65. EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spd
  66. Adamant Nature
  67. - Explosion
  68. - Block
  69. - Meteor Mash
  70. - Protect
  71.
  72. An Normal-Gem Boosted Explosion is a threat to all pokemon on the field, combine this massive power with block, and an attack boost from Meteor Mash, and you have an attack that almost nothing can survive, not even Mega Venusaur. Block allows you to stop one pokemon on the opponent's side from switching out, so just make sure that they don't use protect when you go BOOM.
  73. Ghost types are preferred teammates for this set because they are immune to explosion, Flash Fire Chandelure and Gengar in particular make good teammates, each being immune to one of Metagross's weaknesses. Chandelure in particular will discourage the opponent from using Heat Wave and giving Chandy the Flash Fire boost.
  74.
  75. +1 252+ Atk Normal Gem Metagross Explosion vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Mega Venusaur: 375-442 (103 - 121.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
  76.
  77. finally's Metagross (Metagross) @ Weakness Policy
  78. Ability: Clear Body
  79. EVs: 8 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 244 Spd
  80. Adamant Nature
  81. - Agility
  82. - Meteor Mash
  83. - Zen Headbutt
  84. - Protect
  85.
  86. Weakness Policy is a phenomenal item on Metagross, it's natural bulk allows it to generally survive one super effective hit, activating Weakness Policy and raising Metagross's attack to a phenomenal level. If you predict the oncoming attack properly, you can use agility turning Metagross into a +2 Atk +2 Spd threat in one turn.
  87. The best teammate to this set is togekiss, who can redirect Sucker Punches after Metagross has it's boost from Weakness Policy. Special Mega Lucario is also a strong teammate, who can use +1 priority Vacuum Wave on opposing Bisharp before they can Sucker Punch Metagross.
  88.
  89. +2 252+ Atk Metagross Meteor Mash vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Landorus-T: 363-427 (95 - 111.7%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO
  90. +2 252+ Atk Metagross Zen Headbutt vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Gyarados: 358-423 (107.8 - 127.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
  91. +2 252+ Atk Metagross Bullet Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Terrakion: 324-384 (100.3 - 118.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
  92.
  93. All credit for the above set goes to finally
  94.
  95. Trick Room (Metagross) @ Life Orb
  96. Ability: Clear Body
  97. Shiny: Yes
  98. EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
  99. Brave Nature
  100. IVs: 0 Spd
  101. - Hammer Arm
  102. - Meteor Mash
  103. - Zen Headbutt
  104. - Protect/Ice Punch
  105.
  106. Lastly, Metagross's low speed and high attack lend it to performing well as a Trick Room Sweeper. Metoer Mash and Zen Headbutt are the primary STAB moves for Metagross, while Hammer Arm provides additional coverage and allows Metagross to become slower after each hit. Protect can be used to give Metagross some logevity, or Ice Punch to allow Metagross to hit Garchomp and Landorus-T who can otherwise threaten Metagross with Earthquake.
  107. The best teammates for this set are Trick Room sweepers who can switch into moves that threaten Metagross and quickly begin dealing out massive damage, Mega Ampharos and Rhyperior can resist fire attacks aimed at Metagross, while Trevenant and Gourgeist take little damage from Earthquake.
  108.
  109. 252+ Atk Metagross Hammer Arm vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Mega Kangaskhan: 248-292 (59.9 - 70.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
  110. +1 252+ Atk Metagross Hammer Arm vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Mega Kangaskhan: 370-436 (89.3 - 105.3%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO
  111. 252+ Atk Metagross Zen Headbutt vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Venusaur: 344-408 (113.9 - 135%) -- guaranteed OHKO
  112.
  113. Checks & Counters
  114.
  115. Bulky water pokemon like Rotom-Wash, Suicune, Politoed, and Gastrodon are strong counters to Metagross. All of these can cripple Metagross by burning it with either Will-O-Wisp or Scald. Heatran, Chandelure, Victini, Talonflame, and Mega Charizard Y all threaten Metagross considerably since they resist Steel-type STAB and can cause serious damage Metagross with fire attacks. Heatran in particular can set up substitue in front of Metagross, who can do little to reply. Ground types like Garchomp, Landorus-T, and excadrill all threaten Metagross with Earthquake, but Garchomp and Lando must be wary of Ice Punch. Thundurus resists Steel-STAB from metagross and can hit hard with Thunderbolt. Bisharp can use Knock off on slower Metagross variants, or Sucker Punch on speedier ones to deal massive damage. Speedy Ghost types like Gengar can fire off a super effective Shadow Ball into Metgross as well.
