Marefriend Flurry rewrite

Cadance paid a visit to your humble home at the edge of Ponyville. Across the other side of the small river near Fluttershy’s cottage, your cozy home served as a kind of checkpoint into Everfree Forest. It was handy for keeping younger creatures out, and the forest’s nasties in.

“Anon, you’ve been living here for so long, now. I’ve never seen you with a marefriend, or any creature, really.” Cadance said, sipping from her tea. “...Or gentlecolt callers. I don’t judge.” You rolled your eyes at her as she chuckled. “Do you need some help getting a special somepony of your own? Hearts and Hooves day IS right around the corner, after all. I’m happy to help!”
You gave a light sigh. You lift the warm cup of coffee to your mouth and take a long draw.
“Cadance, to be honest, I’ve never been one to really go looking for love. Maybe I’ve thought my love life would be like all those fairy tale romances, love would just fall into my lap.”
Cadance looked somewhat troubled.
“Did you strike out a lot?”
“Not here. Before I came here, though... I don’t remember anything about ever dating anyone. Or if I did, they didn’t leave enough of an impression on me to be remembered.”
Cadance tilted her head with curiosity.
“Have you given up on finding someone to love, Anon?”
“No... I Just... I got too busy for it. You remember when I first came here.”
Cadance gave a solemn nod.

You had spent a considerable number of years here, in Equestria. Your memories were still fuzzy as to how you arrived in magical pony land. There was a car, maybe a truck. You were visiting a school. A tire blew and you pushed some kids out of the way. Screeching brakes, horns, and the last thing you saw was the statue in front of the school.

Then, you woke up here. The ponies that found you brought you to their hospital. Some broken bones and internal bleeding, but you made out lucky. It took a few weeks to get back on your feet, but soon you were right as rain. The local Princess of Friendship took you in, until you had a place of your own. Her brother helped you with work. You were naturally gifted when it came to military matters. Drills and training were almost second nature. As you developed more, Shining Armor approached you with a job for something more clandestine than guard duty.

You were good at that too.

“Anon?” Cadance snaps you out of your recollections. “Are you feeling okay? Is it one of those headaches again?” You shake your head and stand to refill your cup with fresh coffee.

“Just bits and pieces, Cadance. Anyway. I don’t know how I’d find time, nowadays.”

“Love will always find a way, Anon. Surely I can give you even a little helping nudge? Maybe a nice mare you fancy could be encouraged?” You give a grumble and sit down at the table once again.

“...You wouldn’t like it.”

“Ha! I knew you weren’t a complete lost cause! So who’s the special lady you have taken a liking towards? I bet it’s my sister-in-law! Ooh that would be so romantic!”
“Cadance.”
“A noble mare caring for a poor displaced man from another world... Lost and alone, seeking acceptance in this new world...”
“Cadance!”
“It’s only natural for the two to develop feel-“
“CADANCE!”
She jumps suddenly. Her hoof comes up to cover her mouth, stifling a chuckle as she blushed.
“Sorry, Anon. I got a little carried away. You were the one who said fairy tale romance, after all.”
“Cadance, we’ve known each other for quite a while.”
“Mhm.”
“And I want to be clear that you did ask me about this first.”
“Yes. Please, tell me Anon! I’ll help however I-“
“Flurry Heart.”
Cadance goes silent. You give a sigh.
“I’m... Sorry, I must be hearing things. I could have sworn you said-“
“I like your daughter.”
Cadance gave a great sigh.
“Oh, Anon. Ha! You gave me a startle! Everyone likes Flurry, Anon. She’s the Princess of the Crystal Empire after all. She’s bound to be loved by-“
“I mean that I, have feelings for your daughter.”
“Anon, please. Don’t be disgusting. Flurry Heart is just a filly. Stop with your jokes.”
You set your coffee down.
“Cadance, how long have I been here, in Equestria. Think about it.” You lift your fingers to help her count. “I spent five years with Shining Armor on the Guard. You knighted me yourself, and then asked me to be Flurry’s retainer. That was another five years.” Cadance started frowning as you reminded her of how much time had passed. “After that, I did those ‘other’ duties for Equestria. Four years there. I moved her last year.”
“Fifteen years... Where has time gone...” She said with a dejected sigh. “At any rate, you’re more than twice her age, Anon. You cannot date my daughter.
