  1. I am not satisfied with this response and will now elevate to the Ombudsman. Here is why:
  2.
  3. While you said you chose to report only on a certain aspect of that story, you only reported an unilateral view of it. You said and I quote '
  4. The report was prepared by Deana Sumanac-Johnson in Montreal, one of the biggest gaming centres in
  5. North America, during Gamerella, a 48-hour marathon for aspiring game developers. The organizers’
  6. focus, the report said, was to make female gamers feel comfortable and safe enough to create. '
  7.
  8. Now, #gamergate has no doubt transformed over time and expanded to other issues as well, one of them definitely being representation of women in video games and in the industry. Had you simply approached it from this angle with fair reporting, I would have no qualms with the piece that The National ran on national television. And this is where the shelving of both Jennifer Dawe and Jennie Bharaj's interviews is shown as frankly quite insidious. Because that angle definitely has more than one side. Yet only one was reported on. I think we can all agree it is fair to say there is a political element in this discussion. Can you imagine if during the next federal elections, CBC decided to report only the Liberals and shut out Conservatives and NDP voices? There would be outrage all over the country. CBC is funded with taxpayer money so there is a reasonable expectation of fair reporting on the subject since it is part of your mission as reporters, which is why it makes me outraged to see CBC silence women with 'inconvenient' opinions.

  10. While I am satisfied with some of your answers, namely on the subject of Pakman, CBC has sent a message loud & clear: If you're a woman and you are either not a feminist or do not believe video games and/or the industry is rife with sexism, your opinion is ultimately worthless and we will silence you. It harkens back to the olden days when men taught how to be a a proper woman. Quite simple, you had to be a good wife who does not talk back and had to bow down to the demands of your husband to be a good wife. We can all agree that is is incredibly discriminatory and sexist and thankfully something that only exists in the past (for Canada anyway).
  11.
  12. Today, CBC is now sending a similar message. If you want to be a proper woman and wish to be heard, you need to proclaim the industry is rife with sexism and misogyny, that characters such as Bayonetta are merely fuck-toys meant for the sole purpose of pleasuring men (A view held by Anita Sarkeesian by the way). It is dishonest to hide behind the 'we're just exploring one angle' while completely failing to give a platform to women who have strong opinions completely opposite those you chose to report. All in all, I find that the The National's segment and your explanation of its strong bias in and out of itself quite sexist and discriminatory.
  13.
  14. Why have you not reported on what the two Jennies thought of sexism in gaming and in the industry? One is a indie developer, the other a youtuber, both long-time gamers. Why have you not talked to Liana Kerzner, a Torontonian video games journalist working for Metaleater and a sex-positive feminist who on multiple occasions has complained of being silenced by the gaming press and the mainstream media for her dissenting views. She believes Bayonetta is the prime example of a strong woman in full charge of her sexuality and she feels discriminated for having large breasts as too many critics in the industry have come to believe it to be a 'bad thing' and has received scorn from other women on that very subject.

  28. Have you not heard that these women have been called gender traitors or 'house niggers' for their political opinions? Have you not heard that critics of #gamergate attempted to boycott Jennifer Dawe's game, Seedscape, for the sole reason of her support for #gamergate : http://techraptor.net/content/untimely-gamer-attempts-boycott-seedscape-developers-political-views
  29. She also gave other interviews: http://techraptor.net/content/indie-devs-opinion-gamergate-women-gaming
  30.
  31. Why have you not touched on those social justice activists/feminists' hypocritical behavior in regards to women: https://twitter.com/Angelheartnight/status/527552377860423680
  32.
  33. Time and time again, medias such as yours only give a platform to sensationalist women who believe sexism, racism and misogyny is rife within the industry. Yet it never bothers to actually ask the women and minorities who are not activists and campaigning for those causes, if not against. I have come to the conclusion is it simply due to ideological bias and/or sensationalism. If a woman claims there is a major problem in x industry, she will be given a voice but if a woman says there is no such thing happening or that it is not a widespread issue, she will be shunned, ignored if not outright attacked. Why is that?
  34.
  35. Sadly, in your response, you offer no answer to the questions I raised. Because CBC engaged in dishonest reporting by only presenting one side of the angle they chose to work on. You chose to demonize gamers rather to engage in fair reporting and this is why I will be escalating this complaint to the Ombudsman.
