- Dear Mr. Nefrach,
- I am writing this to clarify what happened yesterday from my point of view.
- <Mefrach> I might start learning some game engine like xenko... Im already working on a c++ game & im learning algorithms, so it would be a cool side thing
- You stirred my curiosity with this post. I’ve never heard of Xenko prior to that.
- Therefor I was eager to ask you why you opted for it.
- <Zumza> Mefrach: why xenko? why not Unity?
- HG appeared nervous for mentioning Unity in my post.
- <HG> Unity is shit
- <HG> it's overused
- <HG> and it's old
- <Zumza> you can't say something is bad just because its old
- After this HG made a pause so I intended to resume the initial topic with you.
- <Zumza> afaik xenko doesn't even work on *nix sistems while unity does
- HG enters the conversation again:
- <HG> old stuff is bad
- <HG> so yes i can say that
- <HG> nefrach wants a windows-only game because he is a windows-only programmer
- <Zumza> gtk is 18 years old. you say its bad?
- <HG> yes
- <HG> because it messes with text and unicode character recognition
- <Zumza> so youre using something you consider bad? didn't see that coming. ok…
- <HG> something is bad doesn't mean you shouldn't use it
- After this, I receive your first response:
- <Mefrach> Well idk, zumza
- <Mefrach> Is unity even free?
- <Zumza> Mefrach: free enought for what you need for sure
- <Mefrach> Oh no wait, unity is that drag n drop shit
- <HG> because it's shit
- <HG> ^
- <Mefrach> Install tps plugin, drag n drop it, drag n drop a character, design a level = no code, no fun
- <HG> ^
- <Mefrach> Tps=third person shooter, just an example
- As a friendly recommendation I suggested you to do a comparison between the market demand for Xenko and Unity
- <Zumza> Mefrach: just search how many jobs there are for Unity C# programming and how many for Xenko
- <Mefrach> I dont want a job
- <Mefrach> Im doing it for fun
- <Mefrach> :D
- <Mefrach> And xenko seems more fun
- After this I’ve understood that you don’t want to make anything professional, that you’re using Xenko for fun, and so the answer to my initial curiosity was met.
- <Zumza> then thats good
- After this I resumed back to HG's topic.
- <Zumza> but it doesn't mean Unity is <shit>
- <HG> no, it means unity is shit
- <Mefrach> Never said unity is shit
- <Mefrach> Never even looked into it=
- <HG> if life became drag and drop i would drag myself to the hell
- <Mefrach> All i know is that u can build a game from just drag n dropping plugins and 3d objects
- <Mefrach> In unity ^
- <Mefrach> Which aint fun
- <HG> i manually wrote the design code for my gtk# bot
- <HG> just used the designed for preview, not for designing
- <Zumza> it would be if you would create your own plugins Mefrach
- HG initialed another topic, the one of writing the GUI code manually vs to using a visual designer.
- <Zumza> HG: so youre loosing time, k
- After this you resumed again on Unity:
- <Mefrach> Zumza: Reinventing wheel (writing a unity plugin that already exists)
- <Zumza> Mefrach: you can apply the same principle on Xenko. Youre redoing the same work only on a different platform
- Resuming back to HG GUI topic:
- <HG> plus by writing the code i know exactly what i want to make
- <Zumza> HG: then you can use the form designer and manually code your addon logic in the same time.
- Apparently here is where a confession was made. What I meant by addon was literally "add on" not as in a plugin as you've assumed. I wanted to say that you can use both the visual design, and write your own custom code above what the designer already generated.
- Resuming back to Unity:
- <Zumza> HG: im just saying that you can't call shit something that you don't have a clue about thats all
- <Mefrach> Zumza: Have u ever used unity?
- HG wants to resume back the addon misinterpretation:
- <HG> i don't need any add-on logic because i would be using the same shitty drag-and-dro designer
- <HG> something which i won't use
- <Zumza> i litterally mean add on. not as in a plugin
- <Mefrach> Have u ever used unity. Zumza?
- <HG> add-on would change less of the designer functionality
- <Zumza> HG: let me reformulate
- <HG> no need for reformulations
- <Mefrach> Why are u avoiding my q???
- <HG> i don't need designers
- <HG> i'm a designer
- <Mefrach> Zumzy?
- <Mefrach> Why?
- <Mefrach> I got an argument in my clipboard
- I didn’t intend to avoid your question I was just trying to settle down HG GUI topic before resuming again on Unity. Tho I didn't got my chance to reformulate my post.
- Resuming to Unity:
- <Zumza> Mefrach: i've looked on it
- <Mefrach> Then you cant say its not shit, cuz u never used
- <Mefrach> Well
- <HG> rekt
- <Zumza> Mefrach: i can say its not shit, because the market already decided its not
- <HG> what has the market have to do with your opinion regarding something you don't even use
- <Mefrach> 2/26 22:26:18 Zumza> HG: im just saying that you can't call shit something that you don't have a clue about thats all
- <Zumza> i got a lot of games on my phone/pc which use unity as game engine
- <Mefrach> Hg decided that its shit
- <Zumza> is HG owning a billion dollar company which Im not aware of?
- <Mefrach> Then its shit for him... Its also shit for me
- <Mefrach> The market =/= individuals
- <HG> ^
- At this point I was overwhelmed, I didn’t even knew what we were talking anymore.
- <Zumza> you twist my words and sentances too much. if you would really care to what i wanted to say you would let me talk until i end my sentance. I see no reason in prologing this conversation as you're too stubborn
- <Mefrach> ^ when u have no argument
- <Mefrach> Jegg
- <Mefrach> Ma nam chegg
- <HG> kek
- <Zumza> my argument is that a lot of companies use Unity, there hundreads of Unity jobs and therefor you can't call it shit. If you have a personal opinion on a product you just express it as "i don't like it"
- <Mefrach> Its shit
- <Mefrach> I just called it shit
- <Zumza> just go troll somewhere else please
