  1. Hey guys, aquas0und here with the team I used for Challenge #7 (Normal). I never really used Normal, but when I saw the core for this challenge, I knew I wanted to try it out. Overall its members are pretty staple, and the reason is simply because they are the best in their type at what they do.

  3. Diggersby was the main reason for me doing the challenge. I wanted to take advantage of its great attack, so I gave it a Choice Band which added to its wall-breaking/sweeping capabilities. It pairs well offensively with Mega-Pidgeot, wearing down each other's walls and forcing switches. For this reason I gave both of them U-turn to keep up the pressure and provide more opportunities to get hits in. The rest of the team is basically support, with Porygon2 spreading status and deterring physical set-up sweepers (Foul Play really helps against Metagross and Aegislash), Staraptor tanking Fighting attacks and defogging, and Chansey setting up rocks and curing status for the rest of my team. Ditto really sets Normal apart from the other types. It is definitely a win condition in some match-ups such as in Dragon teams where Mega-Altaria is present, Mega-Gallade in Fighting teams, and even for Mega-Lopunny in Normal teams. The key with this team is to keep hazards off your side of the field and most importantly to keep Diggersby and/or Pidgeot healthy (depending on your opponent's type). Losing one or the other will really take away from your offense and make winning that much more difficult.

  59. Not surprisingly, this team doesn't do well against Fighting types--not necessarily against Fighting teams. Mega Fighting types especially pose threats to this team as they usually have the support they need. For example, Mega-Lopunny has really good support in a Normal team, and it's usually paired with Diggersby, in which case both are capable of punching holes into this team. Although not as common, Mega-Medicham definitely hurts with its high attack stat and High Jump Kick. Aside from Fighting types, this team is reliant on keeping their held items, so Bisharp really needs to be played carefully around. Staraptor needs to be on the field before Bisharp does, so as not to activate Defiant. It's important to not let Bisharp come in for free on Porygon2 or Chansey, so double-switching is really useful. Anyways, I enjoyed the challenge and I definitely encourage those who have not yet tried a Core Challenge (or are bored of laddering/tournaments) to give it a go. It breathes new life into Monotype, in my opinion!
